The 100 Club is back!

The 100 Club is back!
I hope I am putting this into the right place, my first thoughts where to add to the look backs section but in the light of the 100 Club thread some time ago with Ady having concerns at numbers dropping and the real fear of the club closing down, I thought it appropriate to let people know what it's the real state of play as far as this wonderful and very important club.
We got a car full from the South Yorkshire Soul Searchers, great way to split the fuel costs and company is always good on a long journey from Sheffield to the Smoke.
We arrived, found free and easy parking and strolled around the corner to Oxford Street and The 100 Club. There was a crowd outside, great sight and one of the taken for granted sights of yester year!
The mood was infectious with smiles and warm handshakes and none of the perceived London standoffishness, a real Allnighter with the real deal in the house!
Clambering down those famous stairs and bang! The place is rammed and quite simply vibrant!! Is this really The 100 Club that was struggling last summer??
I promise you al faithfully that I am neither exaggerating nor am I on any agenda, The 100 Club is back!
The healthy mix of young and old and the complete crossing over from genre to genre that represents the best of what was and is British youth culture is finely represented and celebrated by The 100 Club but that is just the backdrop, the real fabric that holds all this together like some kind of funky glue is the music and it is here that the magic happens!
I am a regular Allnighter goer and most Allnightrers have their own flavour, The 100 Club if I am to be honest with myself, lost a bit of "Shine" for a while, or was it that the competition woke up? I am not sure but I am sure as eggs are eggs, The 100 Club is back with a beautiful vengeance!
My tip for this year is, get off yer bottoms and get to the oldest running Allnighter in the world, go to The 100 Club, you will not be disappointed I promise.

Great mix of tunes on the night of about 75% of which neither myself or simon recognised, which is a good thing.
I've always had a tremendous welcome and a genuine pleased to see you look in the eyes of Ady and Trickster and all the Southern Soulies who just love us Northerners.
Trickster has become a genuine mate to both myself and Simon, however, his toilet habits leave alot to be desired.
Let me explain. Trickster didn't wash his hands when he'd been to the toilet. Now, given the current state of the world, this might seem like a small thing, but I don't think it is.
It's a matter of private and public health and it's up to us as Yorkshiremen to get the soap and water going and then stand by those industrial strength driers and go "aaaaah by gum" with satisfaction. It doesn't take long. It's a civilised thing to do.
The trouble is, I don't really know what to do. Trickster is a lovely bloke but I got so angry that I said,
rather too loudly: In my best Pearly King "Why didn't you wash your flipping hands?"
He looked at me like I'd questioned his choice of clothes or his choice of haircut.
Somehow it's all part of that male mindset that makes a lot of men think they're invulnerable and that somehow washing their hands makes them less masculine. Trendy 'London' types might scoff at this but I'd ask them to come to the
100 club with me and see how many chaps wash their hands when they've been to the (admittedly often less than luxurious) facilities.
I would put a poster up, I suppose. You could have a TV advertising campaign showing Ady as a role model scrubbing and drying. "Hi, I'm Ady Croasdell and I always wash my hands. And I dry them too." Doesn't sound that dynamic,
does it? And I guess it wouldn't wash (ho ho!) with any non 100 club fans.
So, in the end I'll have to persist with my attempt to publicly shame these people by posting on soul source.
I might get told that it's up to people whether they wash their hands or not and it's none of my business.
I'm not bothered; sometime in the future there'll be a tipping point when more handwashing than non-handwashing is taking place, and then they'll erect a statue to me outside 100 club toilets, which is a kind of fame.
Until then, keep watching for me by the sinks and on CCTV.

That said, all the rest of it is true [which surprises me I have to say]. I never post on here, or comment but I do think this is worth it this once... It was the best night down there for a number of years... A great crowd spanning the ages, in a great mood, dancing to great sounds [Joel particularly tweaking it this week]. The numbers were high and stayed high throughout the night, the arses were few [other than I of course] and there was a distinct absence of people being arsey...
And there was that little thing you can never quite put your finger on... it just felt right!
No idea what you did Ady, but it worked... played! Keep it up man.

Was that a moment of weakness??
It was an excellent night.
Just had all the right ingredients at the right time plus that indefinable something you can't put your finger on.
I'll copy in part of a mail that I had from someone who isn't on SS.
"God 100 club was fooking awesome.and it was my first - hope to be there again in july......... the place to me seems alive - like it has its own heart and is breathing
I adored it - it must be the most intense venue i have ever been in, the lighting is perfect the mood matches it."
Something of a spiritual conversion....
Congrtas to everyone involved, Saturday was a bit special.

I need to have a word with you simon regarding your toilet habits
You can't keep using Shell shock as an excuse.
The 100 club toilets were out of bounds for a good half hour after you had been in.
You don't do it at home so why when your out

The music is always guaranteed to be outstanding, but if you fancy a chin wag you can always pop outside on to Oxford St and have a laugh at all the pissed up states trying to get home in dodgy cabs and those three wheeled bike things that look like they have been peddled from Thailand.
No but seriously the 100 Club has changed quite a bit since the 80's, it used to be strictly members only ( and I still have my card), and the only way for it to keep going is to let the general public in, there are a few muppets every now and again, but they dont tend to stay too long and looking back I do remember a few odd occasions in the early days that you had people arsing around on the dance floor spilling drinks and falling asleep pissed on the stage, so it still is the same as it was, I just think that we forgot what states that we got in to some times in our younger days !!!
Last Saturday was brilliant, and I will return time and time again to the 100 club, I love it, I quite like to compare it ( quite aptly) to a comfortable pair of shoes.......

Seriously Simon, your comments are very appreciated and I can honestly say unsolicited as you would not accept the cheapskate bribe I attempted. If it was a very pleasant surprise to you, it was a minor miracle to me, I was almost gonna PM you and say don't bother it's gonna be dead. There were two alternative London dos on, little buzz on here and a wave of apathy around some areas of the London Soul scene. More importantly I promoted it like an idiot by basically being so busy with kids, work, Cleggy and Donna's finals that I did the bare minimum, I think the DJ list was only sorted a fortnight ago.
Despite all that the night took off like a Tornado and it was marvellous to feel the buzz, the vibes and the grinning and gurning faces. I feel Butch really grabbed it by the throat and gave a first half hour of his Greatest Hits, from there on there was no let-up. All sorts of characters turned up, I hadn't expected the Jacksons from Accrington (not Burnley!) or even your fine selves till you came on here and wasn't Sean on great form, when he's on fire, as opposed to exploding, he wins the Northern punter of the year award. The youngish DJs gave it their own edge and their records are crossing over to the crustier element, myself especially. Pete Hulat did a great dep job for Mick and he does indeed have his own plays too.
I've already got the DJs sorted for July and will be printing flyers and extensively plugging it, so you can bet you're bottom dollar it'll be dead!

I'm glad you didn't get the bus Tabs even after all the effort I went to sorting you out with a bus route.
Since the crisis thread over a year ago now it is good to see more people making the trip down to the 100 club and enjoying their experience. The atmosphere really picked up after one and stayed busy untill the end of the night. I think at one point I had four people sat in the cloakroom eager to chat.
Great to see Malcom and Lesley from the Barn and so many other lovely people.
I enjoyed Adam's varied and interesting sets. Record of the night for me was Marvell Love Don't Break That Rule great 70's dancer with a tropical feel. Well done Adam.
Good to hear Job Opening played by Pete. Quality rare northern all the way.
It was also great to see the return of regular DJ's Butch and Joel. Top Marks to everyone

But I'd still be walking up and down Oxford Street trying to work out which bus to get on.
Especially after the "discussion" by the locals on which was the best way to the station.
