What A Nite It Was!

Posted by Shaun Gallagher, 01 December 2008

Well, what a great night, from the moment we started at 5pm people began arriving really up for a good party, first to arrive was Mickey Beaton & co, you guys sure know how to enjoy yourselves, nice to put a face to the name. By 7 pm the place was starting to cook with some classic jazz funk tunes booming out of the large sound system. I finished my set at 10.15 with Breakwater's say you love me girl followed by Chris D Smith who was the resident DJ at the Rio back in the day, by now the place was rocking as Chris kicked off with the Blackbyrds rock creek park. Bob Masters was up next playing some old gems mixed with a sprinkling of new stuff and kept the dancefloor packed, 12.15 Chris Brown took to the turntables and kept the vibe going through til 1.45. We finished the evening with a few anthems Maze, Billy Paul, Willie Beaver Hale, Vincent Montana, David Ruffin & George Benson. The place was full of party people who wanted to get down, and topped with a really cheap bar, (which was funny to watch as people bought a round and looked stunned when a large amount of cash was returned as change) this certainly was the icing on a perfect cake!!!! Thanks to all the people that made this a top night, Marlow, Didcot, Reading, Oxford, Swindon, Cheltenham, Basingstoke, London, Essex and we even had people fly in from Sweden & Malta, that's dedication for you! Sorry if I have not mentioned your area but big up to all.

Soulful Regards

Rio Reunion Party

Posted by Shaun Gallagher, 28 November 2008 ·

Hi There,

Just like too say hello and look forward too seeing some of you soul source members at the Rio Reunion party this Saturday nite. It's a complete sell out so it should make for a great evening, there has been a terrific buzz going round about this gig, people coming from all over, it's amazing how the name the Rio still holds such passion in people. I would like too say to all the promoters out there who put on soul events keep the good work going, because without these events be it 50 100 or 300 people where would we go too enjoy our music, I know for a fact having promoted many soul events over the years that there is very little if any profit made from these events so why do we put ourselves through all the anguish of putting on these gigs, Simple because we love the music,we love seeing people enjoying the nite with like minded friends. For me there are two types of promoters, the one's who do it for the music and the one's who do it purely for the money, most of these people have long since left the soul scene. I could alway's tell when i went to soul gigs which sort of promoter it was. Some of the best night's i had was in clubs with a small crowd but great atmosphere, and at the other end of the scale big club hundreds of people, little atmosphere but big profit!! So next time your at a soul gig and there ain't as many people as you would expect, have a little thought for the promoter, he will be more dissapointed than you and a bit less wealthy but happy too see people enjoying the music we love!

Soulful Regards

Shaun.

Soulful Journey Down Thames.

Posted by Shaun Gallagher, 01 July 2008 · 13 views

Hi There,

Would just like to thank all the people who made the boat party on saturday night.

It was a great success and we were lucky with the weather which was a bonus.

We have been promoting events in oxfordshire for some time, as i am sure you other promoters will know it is

always hard work putting on soul events especially outside of the main citys.

We have managed to get a regular base of people that love the music and what it is about.

With each event more people hear about us and say i love soul music, i did not know that you had events around here.

I would love to hear from anybody in our area who would be interested in finding out when our future dates are.

Keep the Faith

Shaun Gallagher.
