Special Guests - 100 Club Northern Allnighter - Jan 28th

6TS are pleased to announce a return guest appearance from Ian Levine who has not graced our decks for 12 years (he informs me).

He has been bitten by the collecting bug again and has a host of new discoveries and rarely heard soul sounds that he is itching to share with like-minded souls.

Knowing his professional reputation, I had no hesitation in booking him to entertain and elucidate in equal measure.

Our second guest is Marcus Hjoberg one of our many younger regulars who like 75% of the crowd is a collector and DJ too. He comes to nearly every dance and knows our music inside out. He knows what makes a dancefloor tick as he is on it most of the night.

Then there's Butch, Keith and me. None of whom are retiring and one of whom has swung extra shore leave from his job drilling for whiskey in the North Sea.

I hope to see you down our hallowed stairs on the 28th

Ady

He'll be crap. I've not heard his records, I've no idea what he has, but he'll be rubbish.

End of thread.

Do we have a 'tongue in cheek' smiley?

I was pleased to see a new dj added to the line up, given a first opportunity - as you say Ian is a large figure and will doubtless pull some rabbits from hats - but the new blood needs more opportunities imho.............

Really interested to hear what goes down as it happens...roll on the 26th.

Marcus will certainly bring in some new blood from the mod scene who seem to be digging the funkier soul and r&b sounds at the moment. Should be a varied and interesting night!

Whether you're joking or not, he'll be f*cking great, especially as I've sold him a couple of hundred top class tunes for his collection.

That would be undermining the trust that Ian has in me as a friend Russ. Better not, will only get myself in trouble.

I understand Pete, only half serious, just very interested to know what Ian is going to drop at the world famous 100 Club Allnighter......you would think he will have some pretty serious kit in the box, especially as he is playing along side the un retired Butch.

Well the 100 Club has never failed to deliver one way or another for over 30 years, thats why its still the number one Allnighter in the world, despite the claims of others.......you cant buy class.

Hopefully we'll have a few promoters down there checking him and Marcus out.

Well if they aint they should be, a pairing of the old & new, with the other usual 100 Club suspects.......will be a stormer for the first 100 Club of 2012.

Looking at the interest in this thread already I reckon Ady's pulled off a PR master stroke to get the 100 club off to a flyer in 2012.

Hope it doesnt turn into the usual slagfest for once though

when Ian had his last revival, around 10- 15 years ago, remember the rocket fiasco anyone? I used to enjoy some of the sounds he's spin on Searlings shows, although not the ego driven diatribe that would go with it, so I for one would be interested to hear what he does spin and may make the jorney down. Although when I consider some of thew stuff he was playing, venicia Wilson, four Vandals, linda Lloyd, spontaines ect doesnt hold up so well with the things other guests dropped on the show, many as hot new tunes, joe Jamma, jockers ect.

Think I strongly disagree there, both Linda Lloyd and Venecia Wilson are brilliant records. I personally love Joe Jama but most seem to hate it for some reason.

Haven't done a nighter for ages, but can't say I'm not interested, he's just one of those names that you can't ignore

Part of me is wondering about the timing, are we allowed to know if this has been a protracted negotiation Ady, or very recent?

Personally I think Venecia Wilson was a disgrace, but only because I love "Hey Girl" as much as I do, but I do think Joe Jama is a great tune.

Would be interesting to see Ian DJ again.

Ian Levine makes a DJ come back at the January 100 Club Nighter. Its been a while, but apparently Ian has been collecting again & has some unknowns & other things to share.

Best news on Soul Source for some time imo.

Just to say its Ian's return to the 100 after 12 years isn't it but He has dj'd elsewhere in between I am sure. Certain he dj'd in Essex within the last two years as I heard him there - Mick Love's do ? If its the start of other dj-ing spots, then can only add weight.

Anyway, will cause great interest and well done the 100.

Quite recent, he has done the odd gig every couple of years but this is the first since he has really started collecting new sounds to him (and many to us), he played me a couple down the phone and they sounded great, I know he 'll keep an eye on the floor too of course and has plenty of class better known things too, so it was a bit of a no-brainer. It has the added newsworthyness of it being a big plus. Get yourself down there, it'll be nice to see you in happier circs than when we last met.

Of course I was joking!

TBH I wish I could get down for this, but other calls on my time stop me from doing most of what I want, and all nighters are now a thing of the past :(

I don't know Ian Lavine at all, but the only time he bought some records from me at the Manchester Ritz, he insisted on paying in £50 quid notes, I asked him if he had smaller notes as folk don't like them, he said 'Look, I'm Ian Lavine, of course these are real...' so I spent next half an hour trying to persuade the barman to change them who had all manner of ultra violet lighting out..

The man's nothing but entertaining......:shhh::thumbup::wave:

didnt mind them so much at the time myself Pete, but they seem to have dated quite quickly, what I mean its hard to pick out any big sounds he spun that still feature in sets now. Maybe the reason Jamma is disliked is because of how much its been played/ hammered, off top I know but can anyone remember what it was covered as back then? Joe Jamma that is.

Joe Jama was covered as Little Henry because Henry Atkinson discovered it and sold it to Tim.

As I recall he kept the Ritz floor pretty busy back then.

Where would the scene be without both "Characters" and "Scams" ?

The punters will be the judge, good luck to the fella.

Because it is as dull as diswasher, mindless moronic and soulless. Other than that it is okay.
