The latest release from Hayley records sees two previously unreleased sides from Emanuel Laskey reaching vinyl for the first time.Recorded in 1978, both tracks were written and produced by Laskey along with Marvin Gaye and Mel Bolton.

(Put Your Name) In The Hall Of Fame (see above for scan)

is a smooth mid-uptempo dancer combining Laskey's satin voice with a funky bassline and sweet female backing vocals. The vocals are effortless but passionate as he tells his lady that she’s “a star… the very best”. Subtle keyboard and flute harmonies punctuate each line and a solid beat drives us through this catchy dancer - Emanuel singing “baby, oh baby” will make you weak at the knees while the rhythm keeps your feet moving.

A Different Kind Of Different

The flip, A Different Kind Of Different, has the same sort of backing and 'feel' at a slower pace - this is definitely one for the end of the night or a lazy Sunday morning. Once again Laskey is singing the praises of his woman, who has made him a “better man”. It's gorgeously laidback and seductive; he murmurs “you make love like you invented it” and the backing drops away to a minimum, pushing his words into focus, then those backing vocals return to build the song up to glorious peaks in celebration of this girl who is “a different kind of different”.
