Motown's 50th Anniversary Celebration - Birmingham Details

Motown's 50th Anniversary Mania at the Metro Bar Birmingham

There was once a time when Michael Jackson was famous not for dangling babies off balconies, or his ever-changing nose, but for being a part of the Jackson 5. Who can forget the infectious 'I Want You Back' or 'ABC'? If you love the music of Motown, then look no further - grab your hotdogs and come to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Motown music in true American style on Independence Day!

On Saturday 4th July at the Metro Bar on Cornwall Street, Birmingham, you will be able to groove to the smooth sounds of Motown legends from 8pm until 1am, thanks to Adults with Attitude in association with the Edgbaston and Harborne Observer.

The Motown phenomenon exploded in America in the 1960s and quickly spread worldwide. The unique sound in the smoky nightclubs of Michigan, USA was revolutionary at a time when reality TV had yet to be born. Before the Leonas and the Susan Boyles of the world were Stevie, Smokey and the Supremes. The songs were fun and a constant celebration: Lionel Richie sang 'All Night Long', while Diana Ross declared 'I'm Coming Out'. The songs of Motown remain strong fixture in not just the music scene, but pop culture as a whole, today. And no seduction scene in a movie is complete without Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On'!

If you need any more incentive to attend the festivities, hosting the party are top former Saga and Smooth FM DJs Jeff Harris and Stourbridge-born Mike Hollis, who will no doubt bring their signature soul sounds to the celebrations. With their soundtrack, it sure to be a "totally awesome" night!
