Looking forward to this but I really hope the BAR situation gets sorted out this time as it was rediculous on the last one having to queue for well over 30 minutes which was a pain in the butt. KTF

Really looking forward to DJ'ing again at the Assembly Rooms Allnighter in my home town of Derby. If its half as good as the last one then it will be a Cracker. Fantastic Dj line ups in both rooms and a Brilliant atmosphere. It does exactly what it says on the Tin.

Hi Dave,

I agree the Bar at the last nighter was a nightmare.

I’ve been hassling the people responsible at the venue to vastly improve the situation for this allnighter.

Please see the below response received today from the catering manager at the Assembly Rooms:-

Can the following info. be passed onto Phil asap please.

There will be two bars open with 7 staff on each bar.

Pints of soft drinks will be reduced to a special price on the night.

We will have a separate Fast Food area with 2 staff serving & a Chef on duty. Prices will be in line with other Fast Food type venues.

We are obviously aware of the sales last year & have already discussed staffing to ensure we have plenty.

I am in the process of trying to negotiate some promotional prices on lager on the night, but this decision is down to our Head Office & I will try my best.

Any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Looks like a massive improvement on the bar front, which was the only bugbear previously. Ticked all the boxes last time for atmosphere and music so should be a great night. Any chance of listing the dj times for both rooms? Would particularly like to know what time jumpinjoan is playing. Counting the days!

Missed the last one but can remember going there way back in 1980. Fantastic venue from what I can recall - it was an Oldies All-Nighter then but Chris King played 2 Newies - Jackie Forrest "Show Me How To Love" and BJ Thomas "I Don't Have A Mind Of My Own" (if my memory serves me correctly!)

Looking forward to both rooms

On a Saturday night the local bus is every 15 mins and it takes 3 mins.  The bus will drop you in town at the main bus station 'Morledge' (which is max 5 mins from Assembly Rooms )or the market place which is next to the Assembly Rooms.

The bus stop is across the road from the railway station outside  the "Waterfall" cafe/bar.  Return buses to the railway station from the city centre depart from inside the Bus Station on the Morledge from bays 12 / 13 / 14 back.

The bus numbers and bus companies vary depending on what time you are at the bus stop but most buses that call at the railway station will take you into town, although this will not be their final destinations so it won't necessary say so on the front of the bus.

How to get from the railway station walking:

The "City-Rail" trail - a signposted walking route between the city centre and the railway station - is shown on the map as a purple dotted line, the Assembly Rooms is directly opposite The Guildhall.. This walk takes about 10 – 15 mins

Where to collect advance tickets or buy tickets on the night from:

1)   tickets available before 9 pm are at the advance price of £12, after that it would be the door price of £15.

2)   2)  Until approx 10:30 - 11pm the "physical" box office will be open to deal with both collection of advance tickets and buying tickets on the night.   After this time it’s handed over to door staff that will have any remaining advance tickets for collection and tickets for sale throughout the night, no time restriction.

The box office is not located in the main building; it is a separate building between the venue and car park.

My first Allnighter at Derby, the flyer promised some mega spins and I was well looking forward to The Darwin Suite.

The South Yorkshire Soul Searchers set of wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too early as far as I was concerned but my traveling companions had been before and insisted that early was the right call, we arrived seamlessly and parked up in the multi-story car park, time 2115hrs and then got stung for £15! Apparently the price goes up after nine, why?

I was a little miffed at an extra three quid, I asked at “The Box Office” if we could book on line and we were told that a further cost of £2 would be levied for this, again why?

Our party consisted of five regular Allnighter goers who had to stump up an additional fifteen bleedin quid for the sake of 15 minutes!!

I was on a bit of a downer before getting in the gaff as money is quite tight now days and that fifteen quid could have been our petrol money.

Getting into the venue and it is masshusive! The Great Hall has a superb wooden dancefloor and the sound system was tip top!!! In fact I’d go a little further than that and say that the sound in the Great Hall was possibly the best quality I have heard in an age, we have been racked with poor quality sound systems of late and I appreciate the effort and forethought.

By 2200hrs the Great Hall had filled to a mass of hot and sweaty bodies giving it large to an Oldies set, I personally wasn’t too impressed with what was served up but I was in a minority as my mates all said it was spot on and what they wanted.

I snuggled into the Darwin Suite and although the numbers were a little thin on the ground the quality of music being served was quite brilliant! I can see this room getting quite a reputation as you didn’t quite know what was coming next yet everything was danceable without the quality line lowering.

There wasn’t too many of the Nighter Crowd in attendance, I can’t see the main room having too much of a pull but for the discerning soul fan, and I don’t mean those dreary RnB beard stokers, I mean the Nighter Crowd, I think they will take very well to the Darwin Suite and I do hope it takes off.

My remarks on the Main Room may seem a little unfair but it was just the same old same old yet we all had a hoot and we will definitely be back for the next one, we will get there early though!!!

arrived around 10pm & Spent Most of the early part of the evening in the Darwin suite then moved to the great hall, sneaked away at 4am from the ladies for some quality time & boy did I find it until the last spin around 5:10 spent most of the last hour on my feet dancin' to some tremendous sounds played by Soul Sam had a quarter of the dance floor too myself until the last couple of tracks when the ladies returned from the Great hall, magic moments. Did anyone get a play list for Sam's hour?

Thoroughly enjoyed myself and looking forward to the next one in February. Read both the flyer and the thread, so know to get my tickets in advance; plenty of useful information given on parking and accommodation.

Main hall did exactly as promised. Classic oldies and variety of floorfillers from the likes of Groovin' with Mr. Bloe, Trends, George Pepp and Matt Lucas, Damon Fox, Charades etc. Big money tunes I can't get to hear that often because not many people have them; £10 records that drive feet on to the dance floor simply because they sold well and were/are popular. No, price tag doesn't make a record intrinsically good (unless you are selling it), but if I like it, I appreciate the chance to hear it.

Enjoyed what I heard in the Darwin Suite. Mostly Jumpin' Joan, I must admit. I think this room has great potential and will build it's own mass of sweaty bodies. Would have liked to have stopped longer, but work in the morning so hey ho. Get my arse in there a bit earlier next time.

Particularly liked the camera on the deck. Probably not of interest to everyone, but having a few records of my own it did indulge some of my voyeuristic tendencies.

Zero queue at the bar whenever I went; hot food instantly available and for me, cheaper than the average bar, so the refreshment side of things was more than sorted. Plenty of merchandise stalls outside of the main rooms if people are interested.

All in all, pretty good night.

Hello Phil

What a cracking night, as Mels says music in the main room was spot on, big ticket or cheapies everyone filling the floor, and of course in the Darwin Suite the music served up in abundance for the Soul Specialists which I am led to believe was top drawer.

All the Dj's were brilliant, turn out was good, hot food and plenty of outlets for drinks means another success and I thank you Phil for inviting me down to do a spot. Cant wait for the next one.

My first visit to the Derby assembly rooms and man oh man is it a venue. It was a privilage to be asked to spin a few sounds in the Great Hall and an absolute privilage to dance on such a good dance floor. As an oldies DJ it was heartening, especially playing early on in the night, to see a response from the early soulies who were up for the sounds played right from kick off at 21:00 hrs.

I didn't venture into the Darwin suite but everything about the event appeared to be well organised and up to scratch. Good crowd, appreciative for what was being played.

Thanks for the invitation Phil and thanks to your good lady, nice to know there were people in the place from our neck of the woods.

Roll on Warrington Parr - Oct 22nd.

What a top night.

The music in the Darwin Suite was fantastic! Room for more people but in time I know this room will take off. It is too good not to.

I can't really comment on the Great Hall as I didn't venture in there apart from having quick peek en route to the bar but the place was jumping with a mass of happy dancers each time I looked.

Top sound system in both rooms and loved the camera above the decks. We called it TTTV (turn table tv)
