Another stellar night in Kings Hall, and a great selection played by all DJs. As a new’un (less than 18 months on the clock) the place still blows me away. And as there’s no such thing as an oldie (yet), I hope no-one changes what, for me, is a great formula. If you haven’t been yet you’re missing out. Thanks to all. KTF
Jem

PS And they don’t just dish out car park fines for non-payers. You have to use the proper bays too (Rich! hahaha)

I had a another great night at Stoke last night and after doing my spot in the Main Room, I sat myself down in the Windsor Suite and listened to some fantastic spots from The Willinghams, Soul Sam, Joh Heaney, Andy Dyson, Julie H gave a very self assured performance from a relatively new DJ but man of the match by a mile was Andy Tats Taylor whose set was pieced together with pure precision, skill and perfect timing and was simply one of the best sets I have had the privilege to hear for quite some time, Well Done Tats a real craftsman!!! Big Room was rocking, hot and sweaty all night and the atmosphere was buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing. The Kings Hall does it for me every single time.

Massive everywhere

A late call up for me,and i'm off to Stoke!! Via John Poole's do at Plessey."Get to Stoke early they said",Car Park will be full they said"....we didn't, and it was.Full.
Found an empty car park (in Utoxeter i think..lol)...and in we goes.Main room chocker, swift bar visit, catch up with Tats and Bully, into Windsor suite.Stop off for pleasantries with Spot,Kit etc and some young chap showing us his beer belly(?).Funny though.
Great time in the Windsor suite. All dj's kept in going.Andy D,Maria W etc...keeping everyone happy.
(Matt Tees - perfect timing, and precision aren't normally words given to Tats, but i'll second that.!!!!).Good to see loads of folks out,Ted throwing shapes again.
Popped my head in and out the main room, dancefloor full all the time, cameras on the decks.............
Left about 4.30am ,but not because its a mini nighter. Its because i'm a lightweight.
Will be back.

Well my night was spoilt by some thieving Bas**rd taking my new Baracuta Harrington :ranting_1:, well I hope who evers took it that it brings nothing but misfortune, bad luck & all manner of nasty events & happenings to you & your family, it's a very distinctive colour being Mocha (Only 1 I've seen) & I'll know it if I see it,also it has DNA water somewhere on it so it can be identified, just incase of events like this, so keep looking over your shoulder who ever took it cos I'll be hunting you out, you piece of detritus :boxing:. Other than that we had a great night in the company of good friends, not felons. This is what happened after the camera's came to Wigan in the mid 70's, the Soul tourists & trend followers appeared for their 15 minutes of fame,pi**heads,kn*bheads & chancers turning up,only a minute few but enough to spoil it, :facepalm:never had a problem with anything over last 15 years + but a couple of films & bang, deja vu,having said that I still love the place & most of the people & of course Kev & Sam, so I'll see you next time but I'll have my vigilant head on or will it be my vigilante head on? :g:

Take care, be safe (Unless you've got my jacket) & remember,"You better beware,You better take care,You better watch out if you got long black hair,I'll come from behind,You'll go out of your mind,You'd better not go,you'll never know what you'll find",
Spot. :shades:

Had a brilliant night, OK the music in the main room isnt exactly 'cutting edge' , but to be fair not all overplayed oldies ( The Nights - Love Knocked You Down for example, hadnt heard that out for a while) . In & out of Windsor Suite all night , Maria &Sams spots being the highlight for me...Cant see why people knock the nighter to be honest - you got to remember some of the younger crowd dont hear (again, for example The Superlatives) as a played out oldie but as a record thats new to them , like my 19 year old daughter , "whats this Dad".....Oh while we are on the subject of my daughter, one of the (very few) idiots who seem to frequent the venue thought it was funny when he spilt a pint on her lap in The Windsor Suite , TW*T , a 55 y o thinking its funny to pour beer on a 19 y o girl FFS.....Luckily it hasnt put her off going again ..........All in all 9 out of 10

First time for us at Kings Hall, Kay and I arrived at 11pm and spent most of the night sitting on the balcony smiling, tapping feet and enjoying watching 1000 people on a dance floor ripping shit. I am so privileged to have been part of a truly wonderful underground music scene back in the day, Saturday cemented my relationship with the UKs northern soul scene.

Despite all ths shit that goes with 'it' all, for a few hours it wasn't about the quality of music, it wasn’t about which dj could out do the next, it was about one big happy family who wanted to have a fookin good night out…wonderful.

Will be back. loved it.

I am definately going to come to the July one , sorry I couldn't make this one . I really wanted to because socially Kings Hall can't be bettered IMV you always bump into mates you have not seen in months .... sometimes years !

I really had to be disaplined with myself this weekend and not go souling at all . I knew I had an exceptionally hard week coming up this week at work.

So the next one is gonna be ALL OUT FUN ! Plus the next one is my birthday weekend

Had a good night,
as stated above ..a few Kn.b heads appeared pissed and raring to go...and sadly spoiled it for the few who where troubled by thier antics.. and thieving, but I guess this type of event (now made famous with the film crews) will seem attractive to these morons.
All in all a great night out that the promoters just need to keep an eye on and chuck out the trouble makers... before anything real kicks off.
Only been back on the scene for the last 9 months or so after a 30+ year lay off, but from what I have seen there is still a lot of comeradie among the true soulies and this is what makes the scene for many, so it would be a shame if we lost it.
As for the Kings Hall music policy, yes the main room is leaning towards classics from the Torch era ie the Superlatives "I still love you" but that`s gonna be new to some of the younger generation and I defy you to find a much better record to dance to....If only I could still do the high kicks, splits, spins and backdrops...Hmmm.

Great night all round ! .......and we left at that time because you can't take the pace anymore bro ...lol.....( plus we had to find the car)

First time up there for me and a few others up from Bmth, enjoyed the main room, had a good feel to it, dont often hear oldies at the venues i attend so in a funny sort of way it was a bit different for me, spent quite a bit of time in room 2 aswell, for me it was slightly dissapointing, in my opininion a lot of well known stuff in there, think i mis read the flyer, room 2 for me are normally quite different from this, was thinking it was going to be a underplayed room, but saying that, had a dance to johnny Harris, missed Mr Dysons set, but over all a most enjoyable nite

Monday morning, “Reality hits you hard Bro” (You will have to youtube that for the reference?)

OK Stoke, first off thank you Kev and Sam for allowing me to collect for the charity “British Limbless Ex Servicmens Association” BLESMA, again you can youtube and google this as there are some pretty amazing stories if you get a few minutes.

Sam I hope my special delivery was OK and Kev didn't get any!

The Allnighter was absaloutley jam packed, some one told me record numbers yet there was still room to do the funky chicken and no probs getting served.

The security staff are tip top, I thought I might mention this one as at other venues some of these Gorillas can be a bit over zealous but Stokes lot seamed to all be mature and responsible, professional and I hope this gets passed onto them as it is little things like this that make the evening.

The sound system in both rooms was faultless, massive main room yet even from the back the sound quality was spot on, hard thing to do and again flawless attention to detail that makes Stoke such a high quality product.

I don't spent too much time in the main room but my “in and out” visits see smiling faces and a dance floor in full tilt, and the dance floor always speaks for its self and Stoke certainly does what it says on the tin and those who choose this particular tin are not disappointed.

There is now a steady strong steam of young people at Stoke, so many that you don't notice them until they remind you that your bones are now a bit old! I spoke to a few of them and I was quite blown away with their politeness and enthusiasm. I am not a big fan of acrobatics without style but watching the young guns now going from a head on floor attack to grace is a sheer joy to watch and this is now as much part of the Stoke experience as the old crusty farts like me.

Wigan Casino, you can not remove that reference, I was for a few years quite wary of this and a little sensitive about Stoke just becoming a pastiche of Wigan but I think Stoke has now found its footing, yes the music is Wiganesque but that ain’t a bad thing and judging by the coaches outside and the mini buses, it is doing some thing right!

The crews coming from all over the country is quite staggering, Tony and the Scottish Posse sat for ten hours on a coach to do this Allnighter, I spoke to a few of the Scottish boys n girls, happy birthday by the way! Great to see you all.

The icing on the big chocolate cake for me is the second room, thank you for the dance floor Kev. Julie gets man of the match from me, brilliant spins and great to hear a decent slice of Modern, us Modern fans always get the shitty end of the stick yet at Stoke you are guaranteed to hear some thing that gets your swonicles revolving and you are often treated to some thing new and special. Soul Sam gave an awesome account of his self and the track “61-62” was amazing and I am now trying to find it!!

Congratulations to Kev and team, massive pat on the back to all who went, great Allnighter.... see you on the next one.

The next dates do clash with the Imber Village Soul Club Alldayer but I will go to that in Salisbury then drive to Stoke after Imber, if any one is doing the Imber Village and wants a lift, give me a shout.

Had a fantastic night at stoke, geat people, dancers,DJs all in a fantastic setting.Have attended at least one a year since the first year and never seen it busier.Stopped mosty in the main room and fave spot for me was Mick H.Seeing Eddie Parker's I'm Gone and Larry Clinton's She's Wanted on the turntable cameras made it even more special dancing to them.Love the cameras nice to see whats cued up next so you can get to the floor for a fave, and great to see the big ticket labels on the massive projectors.Made a few trips to the windsor room mainly to check out the sales but stopped to hear Andy Dysons set and Tats Taylor both Awesome.Heard a few great modern tracks one new one for me an uptempo track i remember IMBER BOY and SAM EVENS strutting to described by the female DJ as one of the biggest spins of the year. The Stoke experience always leaves me with a buzz for days afterwards the place is just Magical.

First time for us at Kings Hall, Kay and I arrived at 11pm and spent most of the night sitting on the balcony smiling, tapping feet and enjoying watching 1000 people on a dance floor ripping shit. I am so privileged to have been part of a truly wonderful underground music scene back in the day, Saturday cemented my relationship with the UKs northern soul scene.Despite all ths shit that goes with 'it' all, for a few hours it wasn't about the quality of music, it wasn’t about which dj could out do the next, it was about one big happy family who wanted to have a fookin good night out…wonderful. Will be back. loved it.

A good angle of summary Paul , hopefully next time we'll catch up ! The side room seemed to be in full stride ,certainly a more responsive bunch than a few years ago - I had planned to spend more time in there but really had to take notice of the previous sets ,so as to try not to duplicate any of the plays. The main room is a one off ,truley fantastic for punters and dj's alike - a bit of a positive bonus was getting a good response to 3 or 4 of my current Lifeline spins.I won't get involved in who is the biggest or the best ,or who makes money and who dosen't but - this must be a real headache to organise and promote and if there's a few quid in it ,then it's been earned. When driving home it struck me that this venue does play a vital role in the fabric of keeping at least the larger segment of the allnighter scene together- the progressive side of things is where i like to be and that stands to the end but anyone giving this place negativity have to be nuts whichever segment of the music they follow.
