i know some of the crowd are at butlins so a little more room on the dance floor me thinks ,
had quite a few from victory club asking, so may pull them down feb'..
to the one's asking ''where did the name brinny mick come from'' well its an old football name i picked up after hanging the boots up,
and i used to turn out for a couple of teams that was short on a sunday, and they used to say ''lets knock brinny mick up''
no mobiles in them days ,,, it was a pebble at the window, lol
any way, hope you all give this club your support, like many clubs it needs it , and at only £2 on the door itS great value for a fantastic night of across the board NORTHERN SOUL & MOTOWN NIGHTS

Don't put my name down for the footie team, I think I've got enough health issues without any football related ones as well (LOL).
I'll be left back (in the dressing room).
See you all friday, Barry, KGB, KTF.

Semi known gem
Great music by Mick and Mickey, and a warm friendly little club, plus an extremely good turnout given what was also on last night.
I love these little clubs on the Cliffe and down Darnall, take me right back - my family are from down there going right back to the 1890's, its in mi blood.
Super night - dont miss it, I'll be back.
See yer,
Chris Brooke

Given the fact that the Butlins soul week-end was on, as well as Davey's (hope you lot had good numbers too as well guys)-I thought our turn out of regulars and newies was remarkable, seeing everyone on the floor enjoying it makes it our day....the club-room for me looks small when its empty at the start of the night, but seems to get bigger once people come in and start dancing (did I have too much to drink again?!)
Massive praise and respect to Roger, Charlie and the Victory Crew, Russ, Nigel and Elaine, Rachel, Sharon and partners, Ian (top dancer), Chris Brooke, Maureen and Alyn, Alan Wright, the lovely Liz and everyone else for continuing to support back2basics...a cheap night, nice people who gell together cheap beer, late bar, varied sounds, top landlords...just a fantastic night! Please give it a try if not been before.
Peace, love and soulful sounds.
See you all at KGB next Saturday-ATB and KTF

At the risk of doing a full lengh dissertation, the Back'2'Basics philosophy of quality spins with the "Youth Club" feel seems to be a welcome addition to the many events on offer, the word classic may be somewhat overused in some circles but on the music policy at the Atterclife Liberal Club this word is more than apt.For the lovers of undiscoverd and rare soul the play list might be a little lacking the only two known copies of Blind Boy Billy Preacher's Cajun Blues cross-over recording Of "Are You From Dixie" on Ku Klux Klan records form 1962 will not be getting a turntable outing but you could well hear John Miles on Orange from 1973 (and Blind Boy Billy Preacher record doesn't really exist, but you get the idea)
Another big thank you to all the DJ's for giving four great spots, Mickey "Clem" Clements who once again worked perhaps the hardest slot on any bill and helped paved the way for the boys who followed later, some great tunes you played out there and this months wild card spin was Tony Christie's "Avenues and Alleyways" was it soul, was it a beat ballard, was it none of the above? i'll leave it to you to decide, but catchy without a doubt and "Sleep like a baby, my little lady, Dream till the sunrise creeps" ... had the foot tappers approval.
As for the other boys, Barry Holland played a steady set of old Northern favorites with a strong Motown bias, and just a sprinkle of blue eyed soul thrown in for good measure, Nigel Filmer followed on and again gave the dance floor what they wanted this too was very much an old time set and was a great mixture of oldies and 70's sounds, Nigel must also get a mention for supplying the sound equipment for the night in the absence of resident house DJ Jarvo a great and kind gesture. The only person left to mention is Brinny Mick, who can be sumed up as "Mr Reliable" never affraid to play a request or repeat a previously played record kept the dancefloor moving till the very end, a great job by all.
Well only one more thing to say is to thank everyone that came on a bitterly cold night, and once again made this event yet another success, i shall see you all in March.
