THAT DRIVING BEAT, LEEDS 18th FEB @ Empire Bar
After another successful night in December following our re-launch in October its time for another bi-monthly installment of TDB at our new venue
For those who haven't been to one of our nights before (i wont hold it against you
) but our aim has always been to bring an up front, atmospheric night of soul to Leeds, with a mixed crowd who are up for a top night. Music wise, we have an open across the board policy; 60'S AND 70'S SOUL, NORTHERN, R&B, LATIN, FUNK EDGED SOUL..................This could be rare, underplayed, oldies, newies, whatever pidgeon hole you wanna put it in!! The emphasis is on QUALITY for the ears and the dancefloor (yes, you can have both). But don't just take my word for it, read the reviews from our last event for yourselves

Heard some good things about Gumbo from the Manchester contingent, and no doubt Martyn will be mixing it up as ever with his top choice selections.

Countdown is very much on for this one. Getting a great response again through other promotion channels so it's shaping up to be another lively one i hope. 2 great guest DJ's on, who as always, will be asked to play with freedom.......no point booking someone and telling them what to play!!

HI MARTIN,
This is the second time this has occured and he did not ask the first time!!!!!!!
If he has asked Arron then not a problem, but i would have thought that 10/15 posts about the event on his own thread regarding the event, would be promotion enough.

Steve posted last time out and I said it was ok then, but I can also see other peoples point of view.
For me, it's about principles - I'm all for cross promoting and helping each other out, (I do it with an event in Leeds, Manchester, York and tadcaster), but it works both ways, and out of politeness it's better to gain permission of the promoter before hand; whether that be dishing out flyers at events, posting on threads and social networking, name dropping etc.
I think that's where Rich is coming from. We help each other out a lot on the promotion front, the effort put into cross promoting being equal, plus we always attend each others events when possible. So if he disagrees with steve's approach he's entitled to say so.
I haven't had contact from Steve prior to this, so it's probably the last occasion I'll allow it. However I welcome a pm from any fellow promoter about cross promoting, even if it's just the odd post on a soul forum thread. Or maybe come down to the event with your flyers

Can I say that the last time I put the event on here, I stated that if it wasn't ok to delete the post.
I got the reply that it was all ok as we both are in Leeds and that the events didn't clash and that more the better for soul in Leeds????
Posted:Dec 14 2011 12:48 AM
Hope you don't mind, but if you do delete this I'll understand.
The day after this, Sunday December 18th, is the 'Leeds Central Soul Club' Alldayer at 'HiFi Club' 2 Central Road, Leeds LS16DE.
Starts at 1pm and ends at 8pm. Only £5 on the door on the day for 7 hours, 7 djs and an atmosphere electric
enough to power the City of Leeds for a year.
So if you're hanging around Leeds after 'That Driving Beat' Make a weekend of it.
Posted:Dec 14 2011 07:43 PM
Hi Steve, dont mind you posting, seeing as the events dont clash. Can only be a good thing for Leeds. We get a lot of people travelling some distance and often stopping over, so they may be pleased with the event being brought to their attention if they're looking for something to do on a Sunday.

Great tunes from the residents as always.
I enjoyed what Gumbo played tremendously, really suited the basement club, I only wish the dance-floor was a bit darker in places, so that I could have got down & dirty (to the music!!) Well done lad
I suppose that Bird fella did a good job as well
Looking forward to April already with Steve Plumb & some guy called Ted Massey
Keep up the good work fellas

Another cracking night down the basement, atmosphere was once again amazing, promised myself a quietish night but alas got carried away; which I blame on the quality of tunes been played all night. Gumbo was class but Martyn was on fine form and certainly had the spot of the night for me.
Nice one Azza, its really taken of with the new venue, bring on the next one x

When we set out launching Driving Beat 3 and a half years ago (minus the gap of course), we always maintained it was to ut a great night on in Leeds that attracted a mixed crowd of the best people.........i think we continue to achieve that!
Musically, top notch again. Gumbo and Martyn were brilliant on the night. Both played with the freedom i give all our guest DJ's as the promotor, and i think they left their own mark on 2 great sets. The dancefloor was rammed throughout with everyone else listening in appreciation.
I also thought Eddie & Rich were on great form and delivered some awesome stuff.
Next event is 21st April with Ted Massey & Steve Plumb guest DJ's so should be a big one. Hope to see you all down there
