Good to have you with us on this one, always rated you as one of the top collectors in the Pendle area and your knowledge of those early days of soul is invaluable on this type of event. Myself i went to the wheel and the King Mojo in Sheffield in the 6ts although trying to impress the girls and wearing the clothes of the day were more important than the djs to me, i probably missed out a lot on the record collecting, although making up for it over the years with visits to U S A, more on those early days when i have a few minutes.

Starting to reminisce now, it dont take much, the first clothes shop i went to in Manchester was Jeffries, it was New Brown st, or Brown st, just off Market st, not there now, very small shop but all latest stuff, over in Yorkshire i stayed with friends in Barnsley just off the Jump circular at Platts Common, from there it was easy to get to Stringfellows King MoJo . InManchester was it Top of the town or Talk of the Town? and Mr. Smiths and the tunnel to Drokiweeny(whats that mean) and what a cool atmosphere, a bar i went to on Deansgate had a piano roll player and was done up as a music hall joint, close to the greenshield stamp shop or was that the Kensitas voucher shop, memory is shot, more when i remember that misspent youth, Roman. ps this would have been about 1966,

Yes I Started In Late 64 In The Old Imperial Ballrrom In Nelson We Were Known As The Corner Crew And Thats When My Collecting Started We Did All The Nights I Was A Regular At The Bird Trap & Went Down The Wheel For The First Time In 65 And Then All The Major Nights Around Here - Harrisons Hoist. Caven Club In Burnley As Well As Going To The Casino /Cattacombes /Torch/String Of Bedes/ And My Fav - The Highland Room - It Was In The Early 70s When We Run The Newbridge Club In Barrowford And Then The Irish League In Nelson That I First Started To Dj And Still Love To Do So When Asked And It Still Gives Me A Thrill To Play My Records And Watch The Soul Crowd Dance To Them - So Im Really Pleased To Be A Part Of Rolls This November.

As For Clothes I Was A Mod When It Started And Like Yourself We Had Pride In Our Clothes And Would Go All Over The Place To Buy That Special Thing I Can Remember When Black Silk Shirts Were The Rage And I Had To Travel To Bradford To Get One - A Journey By Bus --lmao

Myself And Geoff Buckley Would Go All Over The Country Looking For Records Every 2 Weeks We Would Go Overnight To London On The Bus Arriving There At 6 In The Morning And Go Out To An Area Have Breakfast And Wait For The Record Shops To Open And Do That All Day And Then Come Home On The Bus At 11 In The Evening Arriving Home (Records In Hand At 7 In The Morning - yes Thats What We Did For The Love Of Our Misic And It Still Beats Strong In Us - Happy Days Great Memories Great Friends - Larry

Great memories of the clubs you did with Geoff, Roman

The thumbnail flyer on the main fyer is when i was billed to dj with Roger Eagle, one of the original wheel djs, this would have been in the early to mid 9ts Roger was already unwell by then, and the last time i saw him dj was the Mitre i think by the cathederal, we had a great chat about the early wheel and his links to the lads from the merchant navy on the New York, Liverpool run that brought such as Willie Mitchel to his attention, I remember that Dave Godin turned up at that Burscough gig as well, the signature on the flyer is that of Ike Turner, Roman

Yes Roger Was A Great Bloke And Is Missed Among The Soul Crowd - I Had Many Brilliant Nights There And The Music Was Just Brilliant And In Those Days It Was Almost All UK Records The Imports Were Only Just Starting As Not Many Could Aford To Go There In The 60s - And It Will Be Sorry To See The Wheel Go Just Like The Casino/Highland Room & Torch Into History - But Im Sure Unlike The Others It Will Live On In A New Home

I Used To Go To London Record Collecting In The 60s & 70s At Among Other Shops SOUL CITY & CONTEMPO Records Of Hanway Street - And I Met Dave Godin There He Loved Deep Soul And We Was Out And Out Stompers - But The Thing We Both Loved Was SOUL - And I Still Do - Happy Days & Nights . Larry

Thanks everyone, Wendy was quite emotional as Christine kept her updated by text on events, and i genuinely think it has done her good to be thought of by her friends, I wasnt much help as stayed on the dancefloor all night, but thanks again all and what a pleasant crowd, the music saw the dance floor busy all night, I dont think i remember seeing a Rolls dancefloor as busy, the djs really took us back to those halcyon days of the wheel and Birdtrap, it was a kind of Muni crowd and the Wheel fanatics didnt fault anything we played. Hving the room in total darkness added to the atmosphere. Secial thanks to Christine England and John Atkinson for the door, and again thanks for lifting Wendy,s spirits she needed it,
