Having Colin flyering for this was not perhaps the best idea as he was only giving them to people he likes...

I got my "special invitation" and as promised I will really try to get along for the weekend - just have to wait a bit before I can book (M's about to be sent working away again, and so we need to find out where and how long for) - and I will need to rope in a carer of the sensible variety, as thanks to my poorly eyes I need looking after a bit to make sure I don't get lost/ fall over unintentionally/ know where I am etc. Any volunteers should apply in writing...

My dear Madam,

Please find herewith our formal written application in respect of the posts of joint sensible carers, as advertised on the internet. We are of course medically trained and accustomed to playing nursemaid indoors. We will endeavour to provide firm yet sympathetic supervision during your foray north of the border, and will not hesitate to offer sincere advice should your outfit and accessories clash or if your make-up choices inadvertently send you into that awkward transgender territory. Whilst not blessed with perfect vision ourselves, we feel that we likely have the equivalent of one composite 'good' eye between us with which to observe the Pictish hordes in the event they are at any time revolting and need to be suppressed. We have extensive experience of assisting the temporarily confused and those with decreased mobility due to over-consumption of drinks with Irn-Bru mixers.

Assuring you of our best attention at all times.

Seems I'm the only laggard out of our mob who hasn't booked a room for this. Looks to me like the event of the year so I'll best get my arse in gear.

Look at that line up :)

Allenton reunion too for all the Ruff Cut reprobates ( wonder if they'll have a backstage room like Shotts... )

With all these English folk heading north of the border, I hope you poor Scots dont think it's an invasion we don't want the ghost of William Wallace haunting the corridors of the Hydro late at night.

OMG what is that errie noise is it a ghost nah! just Frazer Dunn struggling to open the lift doors once the bars shut!!

We will do what we always did to repel Southern marauders, tell them its their round, They always seemed to go home to think again after that.

Although Louise does drink like a Scot, so she will be welcome in the gang!

I haven't either Mr B, in fact card at ready to do it this morning, once finished my champers and canapes for brekkers.

Hope you are good, starting to really look forward to this now, beautiful surroundings, good music and a spa that will even hold the extended bellies that will be on show, one of the best wine and beer off licences in Scotland a 5 minute walk away (lets not tell the hotel that one) what more could you want.

And for the Athletes like Mr Byrne a nice mountain biking run just 10 minutes away that they can do a few laps of when we are "sleeping" off the exertions.

And for those scared of being Scotticised, you will find more English in Peebles than Scots, as like the Whitmores from the West they came, they saw and they realised just how much nicer we are and our lovely towns are, and they stayed. It might be you.....

Oh and the music, A German, An International Stokie (probably not many you can say that about) and A Dutch/Italian heading the line up, all known for something different and not following the party line and all much easier to understand than the Scots supporting line up, but all something to give.

And if thats not enough I believe Butch has said if Andy W buys a drink he will buy 2, probably not enough to get drunk but its a start.......

Be there or be sorry!

oh so true Jock

I something times break down and weep uncontrolably when I think of all those records that I could have bought, if I hadn't had to keep picking up Louise's unpaid bar tabs ! :(

All you need now is Natalie Steele and Julia Kitchener to come and on the strength of the bar sales of these three alone the reccession albeit in Scotland will be soon be gone :wicked:

By Jove Jock, thanks for prompting me to get my derriere into gear  You have succeeded where Phyllis's early warnings last year, & Colin shoving it under my nose at the Wilton (the flyer!! he's not that generous to shove anything else under my nose  ) failed, and I've only gone & booked my room this morning !!

Very plush hotel, not sure it will stay that way :wicked:

Get it booked now!!

Disclaimer: the part in brackets was written in good fun, I am a good girl really  & Colin is still a tight git :D

Any flyer with the George Scott LP cover on it is gonna grab my attention, everything else added, looks a great do, plus reminder of some crazy times up there at Shotts, will try and rustle a squad for this

I just started to plan my trip down to scotland and it looks like flights are quite pricy from Hamburg to Edinburgh. So, is anybody from one of the bigger cities (Manchester, B'ham, etc.) coming by car and would be able to give me and my girl a lift? Gasmoney, endless pints (did I really wrote that?) and heavy snoring on the back seats are part of the deal. Holler at me via pm please...

Really really looking forward to this!

David, dress policy is collar and no jeans, so you will need to wear at least a collar. I believe there are a few no longer required in an Edinburgh Cathedral at the moment, so probably get them cheap.

I better not tell you about the PM's flying around saying its more likely to be your customers going around naked as you have taken the shirt off their back for your records. I did point out you have Louise's drinking habit to support so should be shown some sympathy.

Good reminder, I had actually forgotten after all that and just booked now, after all the reminders I was giving out!

Yes Colin has a record for shoving it under peoples noses, proves the saying its not something to be sniffed at isn't always right!!

Lars not sure how feasible but we have looked into flying to Bremen with Ryanair and getting train across to Hamburg before as direct flights are expensive and its festival time in Edinburgh so flights are always expensive in. Have a look and see what you think, more than welcome to bunk up with us in Edinburgh for flights.

Look forward to catching up, although hopefully see you in Bamberg first.

Thanks for the heads up Jock, see you definitely in Bamberg. The only problem with Ryanair is, that they are a nightmare when it comes to transporting records as handluggage - at least that's what I've been told. Anyway, I will make it to scotland even if I have to walk....

I hear there's a golf club near by Russ so if you do attend and become homesick for your foxhole in Bagdad you can always pitch your tent in the sand bunker!! (at this point can some Dj spin the Delcos "Arabia") Just a tip but when you go to sleep just keep one eye open for Jocko driving his golf convertable (buggy) he's not fussy who he runs over just ask Andy Whitmore he's still got the tyre marks on the back of his neck to prove it! :wicked:

Hot news from the True Soul Camp:-

HRH The Queen was down in Peebles Town today ...

http://www.itv.com/news/border/story/2013-07-03/queen-in-the-scottish-borders/

Word is just feeding back from Peebles town that along with Today's visit - HRH was also spotted heading up the road to The Hydro and Spa hotel on a whistle stop tour of this world famous venue and apparently gave it all a right Royal Nod and her Seal of approval - She was overheard saying what a fabulous venue this was to hold "The True Scottish Summer Soul Weekender" at and mentioned how fantastic the DIsc Jockey line up looked!!

HRH had a good look around the place and stated that the dance hall looked just fantastic for the event ... with a top room at the back of the hall that will be great for the record sales fair/swap meet or just a cool area to hang??? and was enquiring if she could reserve a couple of tables because she was thinking about clearing out some of her old 78s ?

THANK YOU M'AM....

Just checkout the new photos on our True Soul gallery / wall of fame!! From today's event ....

http://www.peebleshydro.co.uk/

The Hydro team have also kindly agreed to relax their 150 year old dress restriction bylaw for us at and around the cocktail bar and restaurant areas to allow smart denims toooo....

So if you could pass the word aroond via ya Facebook/twitter /tweets/texts /forums/word n mouth/smoke signals and tom toms etc that would be fab...

Ok boys and girls.............oh my god its getting close & the temperature is truly rising. Five thousand flyers thankyou to everybody that helped to distribute them all over britain and europe. That's everything in line for a top top weekender: the djs; the sound system; the venue everyone that is booked in already they are going to make this a memorable weekender. Anyone that can't make this will be beating themselves with a large stick for months. Let me assure you this is the start off something special True Soul hopefully will be talked about in the same breath as Lifeline; Bamburg & Boomarang. These legendary promotions are truly what we aspire too, the numbers are looking really good - that good we might have to close the doors on the Saturday because of the Allanton Reunion. The talk about this is off the hook so please if you have not booked a room in the hotel pick up the phone and say the magic words "True Soul" and this will guarantee your are going to be part of a special musical weekend. I can guarantee you, the music is going to be off the hoooooooook. I personally would like to put out a big shout to everybody involved in bringing this together from Andy 'Toots' Whitmore to all the djs; big Lenny for the CD - that was a master stroke; the hotel who have supported us from the start and to the two top girls Lesley and Susanne for putting up with our countless hours we have put in to make this work and fianally to everybody that shares my belief in the music policy to drive our scene forward. Finally to anyone who sadly can't make it don't worry we will see you in 2014 a few other things watch out for our preview on Soul Source all about Allanton aka Shotts all-nighters and what it meant to so many people if we can even get close to what Shotts was we are in for a cool weekend in August. Bring it on......... don't know about all of you but I am ready now. Catch you on the rebound. Love you all Colin Law

Hi Colin.

This might sound like a dumb question but residency at the Hydro for the weekender doesn't guarantee entrance to the sessions does it? With no idea about numbers likely to attend and size of the rooms I wondered if entrance to all three sessions can be paid on arrival on the Friday? No likelihood of the doors being closed early because of numbers is there? Our group is looking forward to a trip around Peebles early Friday and Saturday evenings and we wouldn't want to get back to the hotel mid evening to find the doors shut!!

Kind regards.

Drew.

HI drew on arrival you will be given a band ie    an all weekend band guarantees entry to all sessions as we will know by then how many all weekend bands we have sold and how many we can let in to the other sessions on top of thos numbers,  so if you have a weekend band your innnnnnnnn and partying with the rest of us ,it was said about shutting doors to the people who maybe rockin up at the last min on the sat evening as not to disapoint them hope this clears a few things up drew, thanks for the shout now go and practice your golf lol

Have thought about that as well. The number of records I didn't pick up because you saw them all the time for a fiver, tenner or so and I always said "I will get it next time" and never did. Even though we still went down south after Allanton {Congleton Droylsden Bury etc etc I still never picked them up} and now they go for silly money ?? Also the amount of records I must have just flicked past because I was on some other mission ?

While were on the subject of biscuits why does everyone south of the boarder who goes to Scotland come back with loads of shortbread, don't they get it!They only make the damm stuff to sell to us numpty English while they munch away with gay abandon on hob-nobs, wagon wheels and fried mars bars!!

Gay abondon Mr W, what you trying to say, notice the suggesting of going to bar has you and the other Mr W changing the subject, and the aforementioned Mr C too scared to come out. Typical.

And as for the Panda's, I really wish they hurry up as a female Panda is supposed to be at its most tender right after birth, and normally provides enough meat for at least 3 months dinners, and supposed to be very tasty. Can't wait, my big pot is empty and waiting.

Should be there about mid afternoon to take in surroundings, from a comfy seat at the bar where I shall be for most of the weekend, hopefully.

That good a weekender that everyone forgot to ask about the Panda's!!!
Great Hotel, Great Itatian restuarant, that was until Butch disturbed the other gentile dinners with a chorus of "Happy Birthday to you" to John Anderson. You can take the boy out of Stoke but you can't the Stoke out of the boy iconic northern DJ he may be, but he's now barred.
Great company. What's next year's date we need to book the cattery.

Wow, it was so good to see everyone together in the same room after so many years. How on earth can Alan Walls look younger now than he did back then! Was more than a little unnerved initially by how well behaved everyone was - with all the old faces there you couldn't help but remember how mad it used to be

I needn't have worried, it was soon business as usual ... Elaine / Val (especially Elaine) - how was Sunday morning for you guys? lol

Fantastic company and so many laughs I can't even begin to tell you!

Brilliant weekend we had a fantastic time well done to all those involved in making it happen. I know a lot of hard work went on behind the scenes.

All the DJ's played great records from start to finish. The company was fantastic it felt like one big happy family.

Thanks for bringing the record Andy.

Thanks Tony & Jet for putting up with us all on Fri night.

Well, the True Soul Weekender certainly exceeded my expectations!  I knew it would be good, but blummin ummer.

I had a ball from the moment I dropped my bags after the 4 hour drive, ok 4.5 hours, as I kept stopping to take photos of the magnificent hills & countryside, the Scottish Borders is a sure fine & pretty place.

I loved all of it, but especially the Shotts Tribute.  I wasn't lucky enough to attend Shotts as I didn't drive at the time (managed Livingston, but I don't think that counts!), so my friends & I were restricted to Bradford Queens Hall & Tony's Empress in our early days (Great venues in their own right)   Many of the tunes played in the Shotts session transported me right back to those happy days so cheers guys

Saturday night was a hoot! with everyone up for a great night, and a great night was had by all, from the dancing, laughing to the soul athletics (Elaine).   At one point the volume seemed to drop, and maybe me strutting up to the speaker and holding my ear against it, was not the best way of getting my point across, but credit to the sound guy (I think it was him), he spotted me, and cranked it right up again

Saturday night was also spent in the company of a great Scottish Legend, no not the Loch Ness monster, though looking in the mirror Sunday morning revealed the monster beneath my make up.     The man in question was John Anderson, and listening to some of the stories he was kind enough to share with us, in a lovely and unassuming way, was just brilliant.  I could have listened to him (& George) all night ….. if the music in the ballroom wasn’t so fantastic & kept drawing me away!!

The whole weekend was superb, spent with fabulous friends, old & new, in beautiful surroundings, with sublime music, great food (4 course evening meal, that was out of this world, and caused many problems for my panty girdle!!) what more could you want, I know !! ………………………….................................. The TRUE SOUL Weekender 2!!!!

Well done Colin, Andy, Susanne, Lesley & all your little helpers :hatsoff2:  It really was fabulous!!!

Until next time guys

Take care

Ali x

P.S Photos to follow

P.P.S Last, but not least, thanks to Dave & Val Box and Kath for letting me pal around with you.  Dave, you have some wonderful stories to tell, and I’m just glad that you & John Anderson were not sat together on Saturday night or else I’d have never got in that ballroom !!!

P.P.P.S  I lied!  The very last, but not least, thanks to Pat Bleasdale for being my companion on Sunday, when we hit Edinburgh (no Pandas Dave!), had an exploding hot chocolate on the Royal Mile, and strutted round the Castle in awe of it’s beauty, then enjoyed a last night in the Peebles Hydro (which was strangely quiet)  for yet another 4 course meal & a well deserved sleep Zzzzzzzzz
