Here's a report about yesterday!.from Pete Hesketh.......I stared in wonder as I saw people placing buckets of sand around the edge of dancefloor. But we will get to that later.......Well another Aldayer over in a flash and now just so much history. So what was it like I hear you cry! It was pretty good in fact they don't get much better than Sunday afternoons at the Dome. Any outstanding sets we should know about you ask!!!!Well it is funny but a couple do really deserve a mention.

The first excellent set was playing when we arrived but I couldn't find out the name of the guy except he was from Cambridge and probably did St Ives. Unfortunately the first DJ spot is not good as we are all gossiping and catching up, some of these folks we haven't seen for nearly 2 weeks FFS

The next set with serious intent to cause physical harm happened just as I had finished pigging out on chocolate and diet coke. To my disbelief I saw people placing buckets of sand around the edge of dancefloor. Mr Evison was just finishing his set and Derek Mead was stood behind him looking evasive or was it devious. He had an evil glint in his glowing amber eyes and I could have sworn in a certain light I could vaguely observe that he had small horns protruding from his forehead.

Dereks first track came pounding from the speakers I can tell you what it was as the entire hour is a complete blur. I had every intention of letting the chocolate digest and ignoring my feet that had begun to tap and jig, however Fiona was having none of that mamby pamby talk. Grabbing my hand she dragged me onto the dancefloor right in front of the stage. Alex was already strutting and stomping for all he was worth next to us and Fiona screamed dance!! So we started to shuffle next to each other hahaha it had begun. Derek showed Nooooooo mercy and played fast stomping tunes one after another. The chocolate and coke where threatening to reappear after 3 tracks and I dragged myself to the edge of dancefloor my new shoes were smouldering and smoking. Alex and Fi where in little better shape but Derek was relentless I caught his eye several times and did my best to communicate to him that he was killing us, but he wanted our souls! His tunes had to be respected and demanded our best attempts to interpret them in dance. Time ceased to exist for me on that dancefloor, only joy, pain and breathlessness my body was dying …..but all to soon his set was over.

Joy and Pain (like sunshine and rain) the intensity of feelings you experience during a great dance when all your worries fade to oblivion and there is just you and the music and the now, no people, no dancehall, no time, nothing except that all-consuming music and those beautiful Endorphins . If Derek had played the Flaming Embers I think it would have been fitting tribute to my poor shoes lol. Alex, Fiona and I did our best but the sand wasn't needed in the end...................now if James had been there..........it might have been different!

Endorphins ("endogenous morphine") are endogenous opioid peptides that function as neurotransmitters.[1] They are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates during exercise,[2] excitement, pain, consumption of spicy food, love and orgasm,[3][4] and they resemble the opiates in their abilities to produce analgesia and a feeling of well-being.

Thank you Derek Mead
