I hope to add something positive to the Boomerang story, whilst complimenting the other guest D.J Dave Ripolles’ style - That’s Maria’s plan anyway

ïŠ

Because a hand full of people have asked, I just wanted to reassure anyone that may have the impression that I only play Mid-tempo, that this isn’t actually the case (I think I may have done, too good a job on my ‘Mid-tempo Campaign’) I like to dance just as you do, and my D.Jing reflects this.

Right - I now just need Nicola to ring me on the day, and ask……”So Len, do you know what you’re gonna play tonight?”……and for me to reply….”Na, I’ll go with the flow Nick, you know me” (most sincerely)……It’s more of a ritual now, which ‘gets us’ every time :D Hey, if you can’t laugh at yourself there’s no hope is there?

See you at Boomerang.

All the best,

Len

Well im sure "only joking Len" will do a fantastic job. This guy has some "sublime" records and he will bring his personality to the decks. There will be a contingent from Northants to support him and as i have been to the Boomerang numerous times and love the place it will be good to actually hear my mate ply his trade.

See you on the night

Andy

Hi Nic,

It was kinda sorted, but after last night - It's back to the drawing board! :) D.Jing is so unpredictable - I change my mind every bl*eding time, yet I still 'have' to have some sort of plan in place to build from - It works for me anyway......usually..... :D

All the best,

Len

......and now the full plan is in place......I spread the word as best I could at Soul in the Bowl last night, it took me a while to ask all 300 people 4 times (I may have missed one or two)........Result confirmed so far - 3 cars coming up......only 3 people mind......we just don't get on so well :D

All the best,

Len

I live within walking distance - and thinking of taking the wife and her mate along- I have gone through the playlists and for me the music gets a thumbs up -( I'm a tad bias towards Funk grooves) But  I'm a little unsure whether the Mrs would appreciate the modern/ xovers (she a 60's R&B Nut, but enjoyed  100 Club on Nov 2 )  - so I have a dilemma. To go or not to go that is the question.

If I could be cheeky enuff to ask for a heads up on the playlist for this event (mojorebel@hotmail.com) . It will save me £10 hahaha cos she may tell me to go fetch the car and take her somewhere else ( No she is not the boss, its domestic diplomacy on my part)

I've D.Jed at The 100 Club a hand full of times over the years, but don't blame me! :D ...Chr*st if it's walking distance from your house, surely that's a no brainer  ....If The 100 Club 'pull' doesn't work - Nick ya own car, or tell her it's broken down......the latter will most probably be the easier option :D

Maybe Maria can help you with a few her and Arthur may play - I still have loads of piles of one to sort out as yet

Maybe see you there mate.

All the best,

Len

We're up for various styles and tempos of soul, but with a focus on 60s & 70s (you are unlikely to ever hear any of the rockNroll style of RnB though).  Some people tell us it's a modern night so they've never been - I have no idea where that comes from unless they mean 70s soul gets played.  I'm not the best at selling the night LOL, as constantly believe that we'll be there as long as people want to "keep coming back" to Boomerang and spread the word to others who may enjoy it.

Been a lazy one since changing software formatting, but I used to post up every playlist on our website so there's plenty to read and help make your mind up

---> >> CLICK HERE <<

...To categorise for Saturday, I would say that Len is 60s biased, Dave leans towards 70's, Arthur & I like to swing both ways ;-)

Sounds like you'll both like different records anyway 8-)

It's a friendly crowd (please read the feedback links from the website and our 'Friends of Boomerang' facebook group), so make yourselves known and meet some nice people too!

Hope to see you both there and please say hi to the mad woman running about from door to stage to bar etc,

Don't forget the restaurant opens at 6.30 and the front bar is open all day.  Venue drinks and menu can be downloaded from this page - http://www.canaltavernthorne.co.uk/drinking.php

The Canal Tavern entrance door is located near the street corner and just walk through towards the back for the private function room with own bar & toilets which opens at 8pm for Boomerang.

Sorry we can not make this one, still one of our favourite venues, so far away. Perhaps your lucky Len, we are are good shots with them over ripe tomatoes , we would not like to ruin your nice shirts.

I'm afraid I lose interest in the names once they come off my wants list LOL.  My red box says it may have been Althea Spencer - Take Me baby?  ...anyway, I'll post a playlist up later as other will, glad you enjoyed it.

A lot of the regulars were missing last night (big birthday, operations, USA record hunting, etc) so didn't know what to expect numbers or atmosphere wise.  Hope everyone enjoyed it and found it a friendly & relaxing atmosphere - the regular supporters as well as Boomerang virgins and travellers  ...please don't forgot our "keep coming back" mantra for Saturday 18th January ;-)

And off course that soul music we love! Big thanks to guest DJs Dave Ripolles, Len Dopson and Arthur Fenn who delivered the spectrum of styles and tempos to get things moving early (Dave Swift won the first dancer award).  Great surprise with the London and southern (and at heart) contingent showing a strong presence, easiest way to describe Len's Peter Pan looks against his longevity was: "Just think of him as the Dave Flynn of the midlands"

Also a thank you to Nats and my other half for the front & background support.

I always say Boomerang is my favourite soul night, and after last night it still is.

I was relieved to get to the guest house after rather a stressful journey ,wonderful to arrive at the tube station to discover the Piccadilly line was out of action. But I got there eventually, great to meet up with my friends Dave Swift and Martin Thomson, hadn't seen the latter for 18 months, so much to catch up.

After a rest and wash we all strolled round to the Canal Tavern for a richly deserved pint of Doombar, then sat down, chatted with Arthur and Maria, and ordered our meals. I can recommend the venison casserole.

Just after 8 pm we went in, and it wasn't long before Dave was on the dance floor, to the Sea Shells' Quiet Home, played by Maria. Others joined in as her set progressed.

Lenny Dopson followed Maria, and did a set of medium and slower tempoed tunes in the main. Excellent, just what I love to hear. I'm hoping all the DJs post playlists as some lovely music was played.

Arthur followed Lenny and opened with a record we'd been discussing over our meal, Esther Grant's Here I Am, which is actually a cover up. I'd told Arthur I couldn't remember how it went so he played it for me as his first tune. Of course as soon as I heard the first line I recognised it and got up to dance. Arthur played a good mix of uptempo and more medium paced tunes including My Love Is Getting Stronger by Tommy Ridgley.

Dave Ripolles took over for his first set, more good music, and the dance floor continued to be busy. Got me on my feet for Don't Be So Jive.

Then Maria was next doing a 45 minute set, including Third Eye, I'm Yours, Try, My Love Is Getting Stronger, keeping the dancing going.

Then it was Arthur's turn for his second set, opening with Angela Davis' My Love Is Strong. He included A Man Of My Word, One More Broken Heart, I've Been Untrue and Our Love Is Dying. There's A Girl Somewhere For Me and his Flowers cover-up.

Lenny took over, playing more medium tempo tunes, but also some faster tunes like What Good Am I by Darrow Fletcher. Great music.

Dave Ripolles finished the night off, tunes like Things A Lady Ain't Supposed To Do, Gangster Boy, Shardarp and Girl You Better Change kept the floor filled.

Then it was over till the next one on 18 January next year. A good crowd in considering many of the regulars had other engagements. The usual friendly atmosphere prevailed, Boomerang is a very friendly club.

Thanks to Maria, the DJs and the staff of the Canal Tavern.
