The 7th North Lancs Soul Festival

2013 Dates: 17th, 18th & 19th May

The North Lancs Soul Festival is a celebration of Soul Music in all its genres, brought to you by a feast of over 40 top national soul DJ's and featuring the most delicious flavours of the cool 60's to the hot modern soul vibes of the current day and beyond.

This unique and entirely FREE 3 day music festival is only possible due to the support of it's sponsors and supporters, including a collection of passionate and committed soul DJ's from radio and soul clubs throughout the UK who give their time, energy and quality music to make this event happen.

The event takes place in the seaside resort of Morecambe in North Lancashire across a number of venues but primarily at "The Temple of Soul" a premier triple-decker roomed venue, Smokey O'Connor's.

So come along to the coast and enjoy a one of the friendliest, and most feel good music festivals on the annual calendar. It's where the quality music, clear air and the stunning sunsets fill the soul.

Getting close now, must be time to start upping Charlie's medication for his wardrobe malfunction syndrome   ......... looking forward to a weekend of top sounds, Morecambe mayhem and as always the Barbary Coast kebab healthy eating plan.

I swear someone broke into our hotel room every night last year and planted half eaten giant kebabs under the bed.

Went last year to fill the shambles that was Prestatyn , and 7 of us had a scorching time, great tunes , fantastic vibes and unbeatable weather. We might not get last years weather but we are setting off today from all points buzzing in anticipation. Paul Collins and Roger Williams often my highlight but it all looks special . Big thanks to the organisers and vision of Morecambe council. Keep the faith .. Cool Notes.

My second visit to this event , the sun wasn't so hot but that didn't dampen the spirit .

We all had an amazing time . I shall defiantly plan to do it again , and next year I will book the Monday off so that I can enjoy the last night.

Saturday was brilliant and the sunday chill at the Midland was superb . Heard some fab sounds and enjoyed great company from far and wide.

I want to mention Paul Bailey who I thought was so brave playing sounds that you would not normally expect to hear in a crossover room , he didn't try to steer the same path of others , it would have been impossible for him to attempt that , he was in the company of some of the finest Crossover /rare collectors , instead he remained true to his soul and played sounds he believed in and he got them dancing . the excitement of those on the floor was visible for all to see , he rekindled their youthful connections. I don't know of many that would have attempted doing what he did . So full credit to him. And a big hats off to those that received him with open arms.

I would love to see him there again , and others like him in their own environment complimenting all the other genres available ... after all it is a soul festival so 60's uptempo deserves it place in my opinion.

Loved the triple decking on saturday night , i was so exhausted but danced on like you do :)

Thank you to the organizers big luv to those that played and participated in making this a great event ... the only weekender where there isn't a financial P&L account drawn up at the end of it ... instead a soulful balance sheet is the ticket !

Great weekend once again, well done to all involved in putting it on :hatsoff2:  Plenty of top sounds all weekend and a packed venue with a great atmosphere each night.

Getting bumped from the Travel Lodge and upgraded to the Midland was an unexpected bonus.  If you can arrange that again for next year it would be greatly appreciated

Had a fantastic time up in Morecambe at this free weekender (it just gets better & better)

I couldn't make the Friday night, but was sooooo glad that I could make Saturday & Sunday.

Saturday night - wow! what a packer!!  The place was buzzing, and I could hardly keep still, as I was scared of missing something in one of the 3 rooms.   I was pleased that I managed to catch Paul Bailey's spot in the Middle Temple.  I love all soul music, but it was an extra special treat to hear quality 60's squeezed in amongst the other genres.  More next year please

Sunday afternoon down at the Midland was a hoot. The sun shone at times, but it was a bit chilly with the sea breeze, but hey, we came to dance, not get a sun tan, and it was brilliant dancing in the open air with friends.  It was all happening in Morecambe that afternoon, the Soul Police turned up :D and The Life Boat was called out, it was incredible seeing the cars pull up in front of us, and these brave volunteers go running towards the Lifeboat station & off they went on their call out (I hope they managed to help who-ever was in distress at Sea, I'm sure they did)

I personally loved Sunday evening the most, with just the Lower & Middle Temple open, it was a much smaller and intimate affair, more relaxed, yet everyone still up for a great finale, and a great finale it was, with everyone getting together at the end of the night (not THAT way!!) and enjoying a last dance together.

A million thanks to Jason, Sean, Ockers, & others, who bring this wonderful festival together with the great deejays  :hatsoff2:

Looking forward to 2014 NLSF

All the very best

Ali x

P.S Need to also thank my mate, Tabs, for letting me be his Charlie at the weekend  x

P.P.S John from Dewsbury - hope you like the photos  :D

Great write up AOTN.

I enjoyed all three nights but the Sunday at the Midland and Sunday evening just edged it for me.

A wonderful weekender where you don't hear the same old.

Special thanks have to go to all who organise this event.

But you have created something very special.

Bring on NLSF 2014
