Roll up for a cracking night of underplayed gems.

I'm really looking forward to the new venue with two cracking guests.

A coup to have Liam back playing records with proberly his only outting of the year with both DJ's bringing their monster record collections to the new venue.

Should be a really good, varied night of music.

Be nice to see the record vendors in the same room , I am sure many of the "45rpm widows club" will welcome their partners being in the same room :)

Do they have a man in a white coat come around with a big basket selling potted prawns with loads of pepper ? .....

memories of long lost days at the British Legion :)

An upgrade from the kitchen however, if folk don't like change and would rather stand in a small room again...there is a kitchen too.

Oh dear! trouble at mill! we got off to a fantastic start at our new venue, everyone loving it, Carms,Liam, Dereck

& Gary, played some brilliant tunes!

Nothing to complain about, (or so we thought!) a healthy turnout considering it wasnt long after all the Xmas & New year festivities.

Anyway, there we were, bobbing along quite nicely, when the chap running the place came up & said we had to play the last record at 12.15! muttered something about not having a licence, & the neighbours would complain, & that was that!

As you can imagine, it was highly embarassing for us to have to tell people that we had to finish early,

we were not happy, & spoke to the gaffer. He said he will try & sort it out because he enjoyed it as much as we did! We will try our best to continue at this venue as it proved to be highly popular, but obviously, we cant finish at 12.15!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us tonight, & apoligies the evening was cut short so abruptly.

We will keep you posted on future events, as to where who knows!

It was a musically stunning night , the venue is superb , what a shame the guy pulled the plug just after midnight ?

I am not sure that a midnight curfew wouldn't work ? Could you start at 7pm as a way around this ? and then .......there is the opportunity of a midnight curry supper club locally :)

A midnight curry club - post soul event, it has my vote. Dance, work up a little appetite....

Lets hope we can stay put as it's a a great location, on the main bus route from manchester, next to a tram station, lots of free parking, plus a great, dark room & lovely BRAND NEW dance floor!

The music was equally first class - each DJ played an healthy and varied mix of everything soulful with some very rare records balanced out against some fantastic, underplayed gems, woven together masterfully. A real pleasure to listen to.

Some photos from the night , again I can't express how lovely it was to play for the Con Soul team , if you are seeking a night of soul at its best right across board and love the unknown along with a splattering of the known you will love this night. Both Liam and myself really enjoyed being the guests and having the freedom to play literally anything.

It was lovely to see Killa there supporting a place close to his heart , and he was so lovely in bringing me that little records handbag :)

My fave track of the night was Liams play

GREAT NEWS! We can carry on with our soul nights at the legion! Apparently, some members of the committee

were there on Saturday, & they were very impressed with us all!, they said we were thoroughly decent folk,

& they enjoyed the music!

The sound issue has been sorted, not a problem now, they will even call last orders a bit later!

For the people who had to leave early, especially those who had travelled a fair distance Willie!

we will charge a reduced admission to make up for the inconvenience.

Out of interest, we would appreciate feedback from you if you were there as to what you thought of the club.

Personally, we loved it!

Thanks again , & we hope to see you there on the 2nd FEBRUARY

There were a lot of +s, not least the music, the bar prices, the friendliness of the bar staff & the floor.

I haven't been to a previous ConSoul do, but would say this:

One DJ lamented the lack of dancers: none of the toonage was undanceable, but you can't just stick to a set & ignore the lack of dancers, else it's not a NS do. So I would get folk up with 1 or 2 known sounds, before introducing the more esoteric stuff; they'll stay up, I promise.

And a fat bloke swigging from a bottle on the edge of the floor, who never danced at all - that isn't right.

P@

All in all - a noice evening.

'And a fat bloke swigging from a bottle on the edge of the floor, who never danced at all - that isn't right'

:lol:lol ....pml now who could that be ...was it a bud bottle ?

No seriously I do agree maybe a few more well known tunes may have been good in hind sight to accommodate those like yourself that want to hear known tunes , however Con soul is about fresh and under played sounds , that's its appeal the fact that you are free to play anything that is "soulful"

Some people like to go there and listen rather than dance so you shouldn't really expect with the greatest respect that all people must dance , some can't dance , yes like me I am still recovering from an operation and though I would have loved to dance to many tunes , unfortunately I wasn't able.

But I must say you did make me chuckle tonight in the way you put the above statement , cause I think I know who that cuddly chubby bud drinker is  I just hope he hasn't seen your remarks because I have just stocked my fridge with loads of goodies for him to eat this weekend

Ok lets see what was played .... from Memory my best hit for dancers was Willie McDougal , don't turn away ... I played

the United Four - Puttin on you

the Puzzles - My sweet baby

The soul city - I shot for the moon

Tammy Wayne - Have a good time

Shirley Karol - Just to make you happy

The satisfactions - take it or leave it

Sheri Taylor - He's the one that rings my bell

Victoria Williams & JB ledbette r- Show some sign

Bobbettes - Have some fun

Contacts - You gonna pay

Jay Griffin - Lucky me

The Chiltes - She's mine

Pacesetters - I'm gonna make it

Ambassadors - I need someone

Lee Williams - Lost love

The Blenders - Your love has got me down

Hermon Hitson - yes you did

George Wydell - Gonna cut you loose

Teri Mathews - Round and Round

Victoria Williams & JB Ledbetter -Show some sign

Bamboos - Step it up

The Daps - There was a time

Very glad that you took my post in the spirit in which it was intended!

I did thoroughly enjoy the evening. I can josh at the fella, can I not? Cos that is all it was.

As regards the venue, it is superb, but please bear in mind the gap in the buz times. Last 'day' buz @ 11.20 & first 'night' buz @ 1.30.

OK - you can get a tram, but I don't really want to do such a modern thing.
