the venue is on the alleyway behind habib house and the tiki lounge bar on stevenson square, we try our best to put signs up where we can but there always seems to be a torrential downpour/hurricane/snow every weekend we do it! so they dont always stick! fingers crossed the snow holds off X. looking forward to seeing everyone there!

went to this venue last night after hearing so many good things about it...............and boy was i not disappointed, for those of you who have never been .......well, it is well worth a visit, the club is right in the heart of the northern quarter in manchester city centre, music wise it is top notch and all resident djs kept the dance floor full all night[no guest djs this month], it was very well attended despite the weather and the age group of the punters ranged from 18 to 65, great large dance floor that did not require talc, good bar prices, very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. it is promoted by a group of youngish[20s] people who do know their stuff, they are also eager to learn, listen and try new tunes. all in all i had a fantastic night and shall certainly be making a return visit in february.

well done indeed and it is run as a good venue should be, keep up the great work

You may have read my article regarding seeing both Sam and Paul play at one of the bars in the northern quarter last month and saying how impressed I was with the guys ,so with that experience I knew the Black Bee soul club was going to be good , but nothing prepared me for the most exciting buzz I got attending their "hive" last night.

The club is situated just off Stevenson square in an alley way behind the hula bar , the cobblestones lead you to what looks like a speakeasy joint back door , up some concrete steps into what I would say is a bohemian styled room which is a perfect space for the driving soul beat that they love with a passion.

This club is about "dancing" it embraces anyone that has the same passion for hard gritty soul that has this relentless pull on your feet. I could not resist dancing to many of the tunes along side young and lets say not so young people on the floor ... the truth is we were all young at heart last night.

It doesn't matter how you dance , there isn't a rule book in this place its basically about having a good time and enjoying everyone else's enjoyment. I saw girls of around 19 leaping about , standing on tables really enjoying the vibe , one so reminded me of a young Cathy McGowan it very much captured a time that was the 60's I would guess.

Both Nige and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves , we stood there and smiled at the prospect of both being able to play in this a "perfect" environment to play from your heart.

Talking of playing from the heart I have to mention a guy called Shoney , who in my view "shone" like a bright star , it was his second time djing and boy did he play some great tunes . I wish I jotted them down because many I didn't know but loved , his selection was superb . We spoke with Shoney after his set and he was telling us how he liked the first spot because he can play the less upbeat sounds and play stuff he likes rather than keep up an fast tempo demand , well I hear what he is saying because I know that feeling myself. I was so impressed by this young man , he really needs to be heard more. He was so humble too , concerned that maybe people wouldn't dance to his choice of play . I and Nige both agreed he had no worries , he has a natural ability to thread a great set of tunes together and with more experience he will be a force in his own right.

I can't express what a joy it was to see those young Bee's swarm when one of their anthems kissed the players needle , to just pick one in particular when that they swarmed was Syl Johnson's .sorry about that . How nice it was to see those young legs dance so effortlessly, it was truly inspiring.

Yes last night all my aches and pains got chased away .. I just had to dance !

Manchester is just amazing at the moment ....in years to come people will look back at this time and do it with much joy, What is also really so lovely is that one of Manchester's Godfathers of soul Brian 45 philips was there too in the back ground still feeding great tunes that we have yet to hear .... brilliant night , and yes I will be back for sure.

If you have a rule book please keep away , if you like a good time then this place is for you.
