Apart for a short break when the venue was sold by the Council to the new owners Rose Leisure this month would have been the 17th Anniversary at Lowton!

Apart from the Paulette Sontatas ;Eddie Daye the rest of the 45's on that CD where mine I did that CD at Canada Kevs house and when we finished we realised we had cut a track short so we had to do it all again before Mr Murphy sent it off to be copied ..There where some fantastic anniversary 45's &CDs given away over the years my fav being the Carios Shrine copy done by Chris King brilliant I did all the sleeve notes on the Anniversary CDs and had a good laugh when I was writing about the 45's which where on lol

Can't wait for the Feb Anniversary it's the first one I've not DJ,d at so it looks like I will have to contribute with my dancin skills instead lol

When Lowton first started the main room was awesome from the beginning with the country's best DJ,s spinning the tunes George Pepp, Magnetics, Phonetics, Tommy Ridgley ,Mac Staten Brooks Bros where just some off the tunes that I spun that first year and the 45s spun by other DJs like Baz Maleedy ,Kev Murphy Dave Holt Paul Baldwin Chris King Ste Connor..George Rouse & his sidekick Steve Ashborne George Hunt, Dickie Watt the Carlisle collective brilliant.

Kenny Burrell Ginger Taylor , Bob Hinsley Tim Brown Andy Dyson Mick H Terry Davis Carl Willingham ect ect ect over the next few years where the best and rarest northern s 45's on the planet and drew soulies in from around the UK and behond hopefully Feb will be a packer some top class DJ s in both rooms..

great commentary here ian, certainly hope that the standard will be maintained under the recent guise, such a fantastic venue deserves quality music and guest djs every month...it really is cut & thrust, dog eat dog etc where the calender is concerned, people realise they want a good atmosphere, tunes they recognise but also innovation, djs who show they care and have the ear to listen to people's requests and most importantly, value for money...thats why lowton comes out tops,...its got bags of everything in two rooms and its keeping up the tradition of lancashire being the home of all thats good in soul music!.

told you it would be a quality night, great djs & tunes in both rooms, something played to suit everyone's tastes in the main, apologies about the cold experience......last month we had a foul smell ( didnt find out what that was, but it got sorted ) and last night there was an icy blast sweeping across the dancefloor from the stage...needless to say that will be rectified, even though when april arrives we may be in short sleeves, fingers crossed!. overall, the chilly night didnt stop anyone from doing what they had come to lowton to do, dance and have a good time. bit short on the sales pitch so a friendly tug to dealers who havent dropped by yet, plenty of table space and plenty of people also looking for some bargains ( including myself ) so come on down...if the price is right as they say!!. must just say that bob hinsley was outstanding again with a 90 minute set, everyone a 5 star gem and kev just puts in the most dynamic 30 mins in a main room you can get. ginger knocked me off my perch with ward burton, love that tune to bits, and when we'd finished door duties, dashed about on the floor with carol.m to john leech, thanks to baz for that one!. again a lot of new faces in and strangely, a lot of the regs missing.....they surely cant all be rugby league fanatics?!!, despite this the main room was jumping and i even managed to pop my head in the backroom several times...the connoisuers were having a good time in there as well. so, NO MARCH DATE, PLEASE REMEMBER, due to prestatyn weekender, but we will be back, 2nd friday in april and i will post details of djs, as and when kev notifies me.

Had a great night in the back room last night, there were a few more bodies in there than usual, not surprising with the music on offer, superb sets from all dj's, laughs a plenty c/o Joyann, Paul and Phil. Happy Birthday to Theresa and Jane! Look forward to April.

Sandy
