Right....'kin standby....bar pestilence, famine & flood, my leave has fallen right for the 100 Club for the first time in nearly 2 years, this venue is my spiritual soul 'home', my fave venue & god I've missed it....so, back from the Baghdad sand pit & will be partying hard under Oxford St at this fo sho....

If there are enough takers from the South Coast I will put on a mini bus picking up in Fareham, Southampton & maybe Fleet services....pse get in touch, if the demand is there I will organise it, so canvass all the soul boys n girls in the area, I have already made tentative enquiries, but cant get any prices together until we have some numbers.......

Av it.....

Judging by the Solid Hit reaction the new J J (June) Jackson discovery is going to be a 100 Club classic, get down there for its first airing.

Good luck to Billy behind the decks, I'm gutted I'll just miss this one (going back to China the weekend before - should've checked the events planner, DOH!!!).

Billy just played me his new intro record for his set - it's a WONDERFUL record :D

If you havent heard him play; he's got a top class collection of dance records, and I dont mean a box of 100-mile-an-hour tracks but really soulful, sexy, and beautiful records, mostly underplayed gems ;)

all the best to all that are attending, especially the Norwich crew (I'll be seeing Mark at his Backstreet night tomorrow - yay!)

over and out

Hi there Helen. Shame you'll be missing next weekend's trip to the smoke (pretty topical as I've just let the pan of oil overheat so got a room full!) Yep, Billy has carefully been adding to his collection so will be great to see him spinning vinyl for a change lol.

Looking forward to tomorrow - have a bit more ink to show you...

Looking forward to being back at the 100 club.

Going to be a fun weekend, I am picking up a scooter from Twickenham on the Sunday and thought I would go to the all-dayer in Teddington near by as well, as I can't get the boat home until Mon from Portsmouth on the new scoot...

If any one could let me crash round their place for a power nap after the 100 club would be much appreciated, also need somewhere to stay Sun night, Teddington area.

Either or both would be a great help

See you all Sat

The last allnighter at the 100 Club was in the middle of March, just after Prestatyn, and it seemed an age ago. I had withdrawal symptoms and I'm sure others did too.

I arrived at about 11.15, and was surprised how busy it was, many more in than usual that early. Ady was on the decks playing a selection of mainly oldies while Trickster and Billywhiz were getting ready for their double decking début. Of course these two are long-standing regulars at the allnighter, both top dancers and men of taste. Billy had some of his East Anglian friends accompanying him including Professor Turnups. They played solid Northern Soul and kept the dance floor busy, in fact it was busy all night. They included plenty of tunes that I didn't recognise, in fact all of the DJs did so playlists would be welcome.

Butch took over from the double decking duo and hit us with several of his biggies. Cressida Watson's Salvation, United Sounds' It's All Over (Baby), Shake Sherri by the Hopkins Brothers, Arthur Willis's The Hurting Is Over, his Chuck Jackson cover up, the Profs' Look At You, and to my delight Jean Carter's I Wanna Know, which along with his Martha Jean Love cover-ups is my favourite of all his plays, top knotch Northern Soul. I think he played the Superbs' Wind In My Sails in his first set, if I've got that wrong I apologise. He had me dancing, absolutely brilliant music. And he played a new track for us, by Vessie Simmons, which he said had a Blackpool Mecca feel to it.

Then it was time for Steve Cato's first set. The only time I'd seen Steve DJing was a year or so ago at the 100 Club, I remembered I enjoyed it. Well he was just as good this time. Again there were quite a few that I didn't know.

Ady was next up, playing a few of his Pied Piper acetates, and also the Demures for myself and Tony Smith. He followed this up with the Cavaliers' We Go Together, a nice mid tempo song and then Etta James' Can't Shake It, one that I like more each time I hear it. He concluded his set with Make Me Yours by Betty Swann, reminding us that she will be appearing at Cleethorpes in June.

Butch included some of his top tunes in his second set, e.g. Sha La La and Tommy Knight's Don't Bring Back Memories, Take Me Away (I think that's the correct title), not sure who sings it, the Utopias' Girls Are Against Me, a lovely dance tune, and gave a second airing to the Vessie Simmons record. Great stuff as usual.

Following Butch was Trickster and Billywhiz again, more dance floor filling tunes. Well done chaps. I remember Flashback by Derek Martin being played, think it was Trickster. Unfortunately my right foot was hurting me a bit by then so just sat and listened.

Steve Cato replaced them on the decks at just gone 4.30am, opening with El Anthony's We've Been In Love Too Long, following it with I'm A Good Woman by Cold Blood. That set the standard, with the dance floor keeping busy.

Ady took over at about 5.20am for his final set, playing a selection that mixed things up, tunes like Magic Night's If You And I Had Never Met, Betty Swann's Kiss My Love Goodbye (hope she sings that at Cleethorpes), Carla Thomas' Never Stop Loving You, the Impressions' I Need You (one of my old favourites from the dim and distant past) and ending with the Four Tops' Baby I Need Your Loving. Then the lights came on to the strains of Walter Jackson's That's What Mama Say; time to pick up your bag, pop in the loo, and say farewell to your friends.

The impression that I picked up was that we'd all had a great time, good music and company, what more can anyone ask for. For me it was really good to see so many of my friends there, I think it's a combination of the venue, the music and DJs, and the people who attend, all sharing a love of soul music.

Thanks to Ady and the DJs and of course the 100 Club staff, a great night, good to see it doing so well.

 --------------------------100 Club Last Nite--------------------------------

Well I never, been over 10 years since I last visited the hollowed place that is The 100 Club. Wasn't that sure what it would be like

Got into town early had a nice Sheppard's Pie made by the fair hands of Butch and then in the car for a quick nip down from north London to the club. Had Malayka and Raphi Gruenig in the car with me, was Raphi's first visit. Arrived, no queue, but Butch tells me that does happen any more, bit phased by the marble lined entrance, but as soon as I descended the stairs it's full glorious shabbiness revealed itself. A fair few in for early doors, still no idea what to expect. But as we hit the bottom of the stairs, there stood Tony Smith on duty where I had left him some 10 years ago, accompanied by Roddie, both with beaming smiles and a slight look of shock at my arrival.

Within in 30mins shed loads of old friends revealed themselves out of the reassuring gloom, no disco lights yet for this great club,  Adi & Leona, Karen James, Eddie Hubbard, James Pogson, Backdoor Kenny, Russ Vickers Ady Pearce and many more. So into full talking bollocks mode, an art form in it's own right here, so much fun. DJ's for the night were Butch, Steve Cato, Billy Wizz, Trickster & Ady Croasdell, which offered an interesting night. The double act of Trickster and Billy didn't disappoint, pure comedy genius along with some nice selections (You had to be there). Steve Cato who was so eager, had his box open 1/2 hour before his set, pulling his usual mix of soulful 60's with a pinch of latin. Ady hit the wheels of steel pulling out his NY & Detroit exclusives and ending his first set with a Bettye Swann classic to rapturous applause. Then Butch and he was on it, gem after gem, including the stunning Vessie Simmons & Major Heartbreaks cover ups.

So, don't know what I was so worried about, the old place still looked the same, major talking bollocks still the order of the day, toilets still stink and the dancefloor is still the focal point. Long may it live, won't be so long before I visit again, good on ya Ady Croasdell !!!!!!!!!!!!

Really enjoyed last night. Got there at 12pm to find the place rocking. Lots of the regulars missing but plenty of people having a good time.

The music was fabulous, all the DJs pulling it out of the bag to keep the dance floor full and the place buzzing. Thanks Ady and co for another special night in one of my favourite places!

what a magical night last night, reason i'm using magical there was a couple of young girls on the next table to me, said it was there first time down here, everyone's on the floor dancing, it just looked really magical, (my reply was 'whatever, enjoy')  as the night went on, i could honestly see where she was coming from, im still cloud 9, butch, Stevie. and Trickster played some really excellent sets, the place was buzzing up to about 5 past 6 in the morning, everyone was up for it and in such a good mood, nice to see Dave Thorly, russ Jeoff and many more, my first time behind the decks in a main room, i just made one a little qautre hiccup, it was put right in a few seconds, a few punters asked me to repeat a few of my records on my second set, no way ho zay, i cant add much more whats already been said, just a big thankyou six foot wide ady for letting me lose with the top dj's in the country and the most memorial night down the 100 club, and i think we all agree on that, cheers Billy.

Not been getting the chance to go out so much the last year with family life..Last night reminded me why i have spent most of my adult life on this scene.. Thanks to some good friends for your support, its really does make you humble...  Last night was over so quick and i could have stayed there till Monday morning ha ha.. Had a blast... When my dear mate Nick Hackett walked into the Blue post early doors and surprised me i knew it was gonna be one of them nights...

Got to play some of my fav tunes, drank many beers, danced till dawn and talked some right shite to any who would listen...  Job done...

Always try and play with the dancefloor in mind and mix it up with tempo and style...

Thanks to Big Ian for getting me back safe and sound and to John Mclure for the record, will have to go find it now, not a clue what it is

The meeting of the Scottish clans, plus a good crowd from up North  was nice to see...

Cheers to Ady for the invite....

Get some soul in yer hole, long time dead...

Peace and love x

The night delivered the goods from the off, there was lads and lassies there that I hadn't seen for years. I think everybody thought it was over too quick, and the crowds eager anticipation of the next track was never destroyed. Totally up for it crowd that kept the floor rammed. Oh.....and the fella that knocked over my pint and insisted he bought me another, very kind of ye fella, never had that before and much appreciated. Scots on Swingers indeed ;0)
