THAT DRIVING BEAT, LEEDS - Possibly last one! Details

THAT DRIVING BEAT, LEEDS 16th FEBRUARY @ Empire Bar

Join us down in the basement!

Bringing an up front, atmospheric night of soul to Leeds, with a mixed crowd who are up for a top night. Music wise, we have fairly fluid policy; 60'S AND 70'S SOUL, NORTHERN, R&B, LATIN, FUNK EDGED SOUL..................This could be rare, underplayed, oldies, newies, whatever pidgeon hole you wanna put it in!! The emphasis is on QUALITY for the ears and the dancefloor (yes, you can have both). But don't just take my word for it, come and see for yourselves.....

THIS COULD WELL BE OUR LAST DRIVING BEAT, DUE TO ISSUES WITH THE VENUE. HOPING THAT WE CAN FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE AND CONTINUE LONG INTO OUR 5TH YEAR AND THEN SOME. LETS HOPE SO!!!!

Details:

SATURDAY 16th February @ Empire Bar, Leeds city centre

Doors: 9pm - 3am ish

£5 entry

Guest DJ's.........

CALLUM SIMPSON (Pow Wow club)

COLIN DENHAM

Oh flippin eck!! Didn't think my week could get any worse :o(

Well, if it is the last one down in the basement, better give it the best possible send off, so count me in guys, especially with Col & Callum behind the decks, along with the superb residents, this is a leaving party I ain't gonna miss!!!

Good luck with trying to find a new venue guys.

Let's show The Empire what they're gonna be missing & pack this one out

See you "down in the basement" in Feb

So if an imposed sabbatical might on the horizon we better get our arses over to join the party.....wrinklies corner will be bouncing.

Couldn't think of any better people then those two rather nice North East chaps to get the place rockin'

I'm sure "Driving" will leaving the basement kicking & screaming.......so lets be avin ya!!!!!

Now then folks,

Yes, it is a shame about the venue. We were onto a winner with The Empire, however they're main venue purpose is for live music, and it's that which is the problem. They've had noise complaints from near by residents about noise, particularly when live bands are playing. They had to put a noise limiter in to satisfy the authorities, but that has been cutting bands off mid set, and now promoters aren't touching it with a barge pole!!!

So they've decided to shut in March, to either sort proper sound proofing out or go in a different direction. Either way this will be the last one at Empire.

I'm trying desperately to find the right venue, but if that doesn't come to fruition we'll have to wind the night up, which will be a real shame having built up momentum into our fifth year and putting Leeds back on the map soul wise.

So, get yourselves down for a fantastic evening and make sure its a good one!

What a leaving party that was !!! ...... & trust Rich Buckley to trip the electrics with the volume  , well, if you're gonna go out, might as well go out in style  Was only a short break until normal service was resumed & I quite liked fumbling around in the dark :wicked:

I thought both guests did a superb job. Callum has frequented before so knew what pressed our buttons (& we all love his style anyway) and hats off to Col (a Driving Beat virgin) who read us well and kept the dancefloor very active. Both guests were smashing so cheers Azza, Rich & Eddie for choosing the right guys on the night :hatsoff2:

Here's some piccies for your enjoyment or for your embarrassment :D

(if anyone wants any photo's deleting, and before I put them on Facebook please let me know)

Looking forward to the next chapter of That Driving Beat (Leeds) as I know you guys won't let this special night fade. 5+ years is some achievement, so pat yourselves on the back, have a well earned rest, & sock it to us again, whenever & wherever that may be.

Take care & bye for now

Hope it's not too long before we're doing it again

Great pictures Alison, that capture the happy and lively vibe of the night perfectly. Lots in, and there won't have been anyone going home disappointed. The only gripe I have is this was the last one :-( Or at least the last one until a new venue is found. Hope your search is swift and successful guys, cause this in one of the best soul nights in town, and we can't be without it long.

Thanks for all the nice feedback on the night, on here and through private messages. As always, the DJ's were outstanding. Our guests were absolutely top notch. Both Col and Callum stamped their own onto their sets, and redicents were in great form too with a good selection of new bits brought to the wheels of steel too.

I thought Saturday night was bloody brilliant. Musically, right up there with some of the best nights we've had, but also of lots of events i've been to in the last couple of years! The blend and mix of sounds was bang on and the dancefloor was packed all night.

It was a real shame to say goodbye to the Empire after a year and a half. Great little venue with fantastic staff and a management team who work with you at all times. That's a rare commodity these days i'll tell ya!! However, i think we signed off in style.

You the punters have given me the enthusiasm to try everything in my power to stop the night from folding. The next venue has to have all the right elements, but i'll do my best to find it. I think That Driving Beat has plenty left to give, and whilst ever people feel the same it will keep going.
