Fri 3rd May 2013 - CALIENTE 4TH Anniversary — FREE entry (Peterborough)

Russ and I are pleased to announce that the next Northern Soul night at “Club Caliente” in Peterborough will be on Friday 3rd May 2013. This is our 4TH ANNIVERSARY and once again FREE entry to get in!!! with resident DJ’s CARL FORTNUM and STEVE JAY plus special guest, the return of JOHN ALDRIDGE along with hosts RUSS and RAY. We are also pleased to be joined behind the decks by ‘Mr early doors’ himself MICK BEEBY who will be by popular demand, playing some tunes later as the night unfolds. We will be playing a quality mix of Northern Soul from the 60’s through the 70’s/80’s and beyond, 6ts Soul + R&B etc. — all QUALITY tunes from original vinyl.

The evening runs from 8pm to 1am (doors open from about 6pm for any thirsty/hungry early birds wanting bar &/or food or to reserve a table or one of the sofas. Music is from about 7pm - once I’ve got the turntables up and running. For further details see the attached flyer, email back or call Russ on 0796 843 7250.

Previous nights at Caliente:

Our last Caliente was in March with (a fully fit and recovered) CARL FORTNUM and fellow resident STEVE JAY who delivered the quality sounds from 60s/70s/80s and beyond that the regulars now expect from our nights at Caliente. We enjoyed BRETT SMITH so much last time round (stepping in for Carl) that we asked him back to be our main guest, we were not disappointed with the selections played by Brett. We feel proud to be doing our bit to help these younger guys give us their take on what needs playing out these days. MICK BEEBY covered the early doors session again playing some very nice 45’s prompting several of the regular early birds to ask if Mick can play a few of these tunes later on in the night? We agree, so this will happen on our May date. [see link below for photos]

For our Christmas Knees up we welcomed special guest for the night HAMMIE who pulled out some big ticket 45's as well as some cracking lesser knowns which kept the dance floor busy and encouraged a couple of us anoraks to have a look over the decks to see what was playing - one of the advantages of having the turntables out front in full view of the dancers and those propping up the bar. Unfortunately CARL FORTNUM was suffering from Man Flu (A47 strain - particularly nasty!) so in stepped (a not so young any more) BRETT SMITH with STEVE JAY being a great sport leaving his box(es) open for Brett to play a great set from. [see link below for photos]

Prior (to our December knees up) the last Caliente was in October with Russ, Carl, Steve and myself fresh back from our ‘Jolly Boys Outing” with all four of us DJ’ing at the Skegness Weekender. It was great also to see the return of PHIL RAINS and early doors support from Mick Beeby pulling out some lovely underplayed tunes from 60’s and 70’s.

Back in August we helped Birthday boy KEV DRAPER as our main guest DJ, one of the DJ legends on the Northern Soul scene, celebrate his birthday in style. We also had Kev’s lovely wife DENISE DRAPER playing some quality tunes from her own collection. A great night was had by all. If you missed this one then check out the feedback and photo’s in the link below:

Prior to August we held our 3rd Anniversary (yes, we’ve been going now for 3 years!!) and here we heard not just one DJ legend but four! DJ’ing legends KEV DRAPER, CARL FORTNUM and GARY SPENCER (‘SPENA’) join our main guest “SOUL SAM”. If you missed this one then check out the feedback and photo’s in the link below:

well its been a very sad few weeks with the loss of "the calientes" owner pam though cancer but the show must go on, which im sure

its what pam would want, so im sure that all our regulars will come and support the venue and help keep "club caliente" going from strength

to strength.

cant believe this will be our 4th anniversary at this venue and am pleased to confirm our special guest for this night will be JOHN ALDRIDGE

so the line up will be;

ray n russ

mick beeby

carl Fortnum

steve jay

john Aldridge

also we have taken note from our regulars and will be splitting the evening up into 30mins spots to mix the music policy with mick doing a later

spot aswell due to popular demand..

thanks for all support over the past 4 years

Troop;

I came over with Steve Scotney last night and enjoyed every minute, my kind of venue is one that has an identity of its own and musically few venues have given me such pleasure in the last year,every jock played a blinder, the Red Bar in Wakefield and Len's Den are the only other one's at the minute. Its defo in the calendar for further visits.

Thankyou

Really enjoyed first visit to Caliente thanks all. Don't really know why it took this long to make it over but deffo won't be the only visit. Great venue and sound + general mood of the night was excellent. 1am arrived too quickly and the range of soul through the night just great. If only the chippy next door stayed open that late!

Thanks again to Brian for telling me all the records I didn't know...and for some choice tips when a little sales box landed next to us at the bar with most things the bargain price a fiver a disc! Brilliant!

Cheers, Steve
