Not sure if this link will work , but its an event interest post ref this night , some great tunes being posted regarding what to expect to hear from this night .

https://www.facebook.com/events/481185445271011/

Its going to be a good education for me as I am not familiar with quite a few of the tunes , however having said that they sound great to my ears.

I embrace the unknown so it promises to be a good night.

Just a quick add, Gary has advertised the night as a real mixture of music, and that is usually my slant, i'm not a full on 60's guy, but love the 70's, especially those funk edged records and i aim to air a few LP only numbers, as well as a smattering of Crossover, so i hope that sits well with the Con Soul punters..Open minded folk i'm told..Excellent.

I have to ask.... who bagged the curry :)

Musically brilliant night , number disappointingly low . I do hope we can muster more support for the gem of a club in the future because they truly deserve to be rewarded for their imagination hard work a bravery in supplying fresh underplayed sounds.

I can only surmise that last night was an exceptionally  busy night on the soul calendar and the fact that there were do's locally the night before and a free all dayer today in Manchester that sort of impacted on the attendance last night ?

I know different strokes was on last night too in the city center which is also a fantastic night to support . It really is very hard to spread and encourage the play when dates clash . I have myself alternated my support in the last two months .  I wonder how many others living in the area feel about it ?

I really think you need to get together guys and work something out so that you all feel you get out what you put in , its just a suggestion why not alternate your monthly nights and support each other by attending each others nights that way the crowd won't feel split ?

It would appear both clubs have the same VISION so its really hard to pick which one to support.

Perhaps an idea would be to invite the club that is not holding its event on the night into the second room of the event that is hosting its "turn" ?

I just feel it needs to be addressed for the good of the community as a whole , in the end we will All end up losing out because a low attendance can not be sustained long term if you want to maintain your level of quality by inviting a varied mix of Dj's with the best collections. I imagine as well as the monetary value of a loss on expenses is just the tip of the iceberg , people tend to forget that someone has to put the kit into place and take it down and deliver it from A to B

It must be exhausting :(

We quite agree Carms with your comments, we were thinking of changing our date anywaybut would like feedback first? we do seem to have lost a few of our regulars since we moved, & we are very curious as to why this is? we would welcome constructive criticism from punters, ( not sly digs on FB regarding the content of our flyers, Im not naming names, you know who you are, its a shame fellow promoters have to stoop to such levels)

the venue is not on the same night as ours by the way.

Anyway, Brett & Jed delivered all that was promised  & more, musically, from ballads to crossover, modern. R,B.

Thanks guys for sharing some of your superb collections with us.

Just a pity more people didnt make the efoort to support you both! we do know you cant always attend all the events you would like, but when you have some of the countries top DJS travelling to your venue, you do feel

rather frustrated sometime! like Carms says, its bloody hard work setting up, & Dereck is there again now, collecting the gear!

We just want to run a night with superb djs, & share it with likeminded people, so any comments folks,

would be much appreciated.

Thanks to the faithful few who DID turn up anyway!

your support is always appreciated!

Well it's a shame numbers were low, but me and my crowd had good fun, it really is a great little venue , only needs a few more bodies and it'll have that atmosphere, to think in a couple of months the Euro weekender will be more than likely sold out ! With similar music being played ! Always think those that enjoy something a little different from the mainstream can either have packed days/ nights , or they can be sparse, I have experienced both ends of that scale and seem to play most months all over the UK and occasionally Europe , no easy answers I think, but I wouldn't be disheartened maybe a crowded calendar is a problem, but another month it can be a different story. Thanks for the invite, and to those that danced. :)

Well ll i enjoyed it ,no easy thing promoting these days. This forum is full of people spouting about underplayed rare soul venues, how they crave to hear something other than top 500.All the while the oldies retro scene thrives and venues like this and others struggle on every month with empty seats. The difference bettween the 2 scenes seems to be the oldies only crew ATTEND ,those who talk about rare underplayed soul do just that TALK.Good sets from ged and brett, and good to see brett and his crew..

Must admit I am puzzled where the Whitfield regs have gone ? Its not like Prestwich is far from the last venue ? I asked Craig who played at Diff Strokes last night how many attended , and his  estimate was 80 , that's not many for a two room event either , so I doubt you are alone in your concerns.

Could be everyone is saving themselves for Carl's party today :)

I do think just using one room in future will help , open up the second room only if you have an over spill. I am sure the manager will help you provide adequate lighting for the record vendors , plus it includes them in the night.

Yeah I can't 'like' any comment either Carms. But Everyone is correct - I said to Dereck a bi-monthy would be best, and had that in mind from the off-set but you've gotta see how the land lies.

I like the idea of a collective effort as alluded to by Carms/Andy/Sid - a semi-regular night where we all play records & host great DJ's might possibly be the best option, rather than competing for the small group of ppl to turn up. I don't know, but it cant continue like this thats for sure.

That said, the music was PURE QUALITY - I can sit and listen to those two all night, but thats not the point, its unfair to make ppl travel so far and not get the respect they deserve re: promoters ensuring they have a good room full of people to play too or for punters to turn up and acknowledge that these guys are traveling for the love of playing rare records for them to enjoy. Maybe a less is more attitude regarding the soul calendar is the answer.

Glad to see they took it in their stride though!

Thanks to those who did come and who made the effort.

Carms - I gave the curry to my mate Andy who was pretty chuffed!

BREAKING NEWS! We will be running a bingo, pie & peas night at Con. Soul next month, that ought to tempt a few in!

Actually, we wont be on in April at all, BUT we are back in May on the 17th, which is a Friday, for a warm up

for the European soul weekend! DJS to be confirmed.

We are looking to change from the 1st Saturday anyway, to see if that will make a difference

We will keep you posted!

Thank you to everyone for your messages of support, ONWARDS & UPWARDS!
