Tiffany's Coalville Re-Launch

Allnighters
John Dennis

Tiffany's Coalville Re-Launch Details

Tiffany's Coalville was an allnighter up there with the best of them but like many others it got closed down by the local authority.

Derbyshire and Leicestershire have a deep Northern Soul connection with some great venues and great allnighters like Derby assembly rooms, Nottingham odd fellow's Leicester and Bretby, Burton on Trent.

Since Bretby got sold in 2003 for housing, there has not been a regular allnighter in our area so I have been on a quest to find a venue. then I got in touch with Michael Holland who owns the Emporium which was Tiff's back in the day and with him, himself being a Northern Soul fan wanted to bring this old, loved and lost allnighter back on the scene.

The last Tiffany's Allnighter was 28th Aug 1978 and we want to bring it back. The next Tiffany's All-nighter is on 18th May 2013 doors open 9pm till 6am.

£8 Tickets or £10 o.t.d please give your support and be a part of Northern Soul history and have a great time!

https://www.theticke...ts/?id=10025618

We have a great Dj line up Dave Rimmer, Rob Smith, Little Scotty, Ted Massey, John Weston, Dave Bell, Steve Wileman, Sammy Dee, Paul Maypole and Neil Rushton, Helen Preston Jelly Bean Barry Cooper, Dave Bell Andy Riley, Daz Deakin and Billy Emms TWO ROOMS, A GREAT DJ LINE UP and all For a £8 Ticket

I Hope We Can Bring Back What is Missing And Be Apart Of A New Era For The Midland Soul Scene K T F

Doh!!! it also clashes with Steve & Claires wedding party at Newark or we would defo. be there

i think the best ever soul nights in Coalville were at the Fox & Goose in the late 80s early 90s, Simon used to play stuff like Eric Mercury - lonely girl, Debonaires - come back baby, Professionals etc. etc. etc....Hap hap happy days indeed

it has changed, tiffs chill out room that used to be the bali hi (however you spell it) became a snooker room, it became a seperate building with the entrance at the back, me & Jonah had countless afternoons there on the tables (used to get hammered tho', Jonahs average breaks used to be @ the 80 mark) doh!!!!!

The Original Dj's for tiffs was Kev Roberts, Chris King, sam moore, Neil Rushton,Rob Smith Do you Know of any others Who are still With us and still Dj'ing ? or any coalville northern dj's you know of who would like a spot. Chris King and Sam moore are both interested in doing a spot when we do another ( dates to be confirmed ) we had a bit of confusion with date's or they would be playing at this one but we do have the Original DJ/ Promoter Neil Rushton and Rob Smith with local Dj's Dude, Steve Wileman and myself and daz Deaken who is from leicester.

It would be great to get a full line up of all the original djs we can and local dj's.

Any help with this task we would very much appreciate.

Thanks JD

I agree Rob, I see what you are doing JD and you have got class Dj's on but it would be good to see some local Dj's on.

I used to Dj at the Grand Ballroom until it closed after mecca bought it, then ran a soul night in the Engine and then did some work at Tiffs on normal nights, ran soul nights at the Town Hall in Ashby in the 70's and now run Ibstock Soul Club with Rob,

Have a great night,

Hi Simon, what a great memory, i bought a copy of the night from Kev Roberts at Tiffs, 2 weeks previous at Wigan, he told me he had a box full of The night, me being a gullable 19 year old thought i was getting an original from a reputable DJ, but alas it was on a bloody reissue, & he still took 50p off me for the bugger, oh well, we live & learn lol

Hope to see you soon matey, atb...Rob

Are  any  of  the  old  leicester crew   planning  to be  there?

I remember there always used to  be  a  massive gang of leicester soulies at Tiffs. Nuneaton soulies were always  there  in  big numbers too,

Coaches from Pymouth, Birmingham  and Nottingham were also a regular feature.  It would  be  great to Get  it back to  how  it used to be.

The  dj line up  used to be SOUL SAM, CHRIS KING, NEV WHERRY, ROB LYTHALL BRIAN RAE, DAVE C  TONY FROM PLYMOUTH (I THINK) ROB SMITH, DEREK ALLEN,CLIVE JONES, MARTIN FROM LEICESTER (GREAT DJ) AND KEV ROBERTS, I cant remember any more. . Whats the  chances  of  getting these  guys  back  together again?, I understand that NEV   and Derek are  no longer  with  us  R.I.P  but some  of the  others are still around.  Of all the  places I used to go to  Tiffs was the  friendliest of them all.

What happened to Dave coleman , Fran and Plonk from Coalville, are  they still around?

Hi

Went to Coalville Tiffanys back in the day and tbh never really rated it so wasn't to bothered about going to this one. In order to make an informed decision next time could you clarity the music policy in the 2 rooms please? I haven't read through all the posts but have seen one when it seems to suggest modern in one and rare and classic Northern (?) in the other. Perhaps a playlist would help

Thanks

I know! We could have met !!! Perhaps next time. Thanks for the update: so playing what they like doesnt mean necessarily playing to keep the 'floor' happy then? I suppose what I'm asking is : was it the majority of the same stuff ?

If we go next time wear a pink carnation and stand next to the bar!!!!!

Hi Sharon

The music played was should be played at nighters ie. everything from oldies to lesser known to rare always with the dancefloor in mind,I even went in the second room which when I went in NIEL RUSHTON and DAVY BELL were on and these being modern djs played that, not my cup of tea but the room was full and the dancefloor buzzing so people were happy, the same in the main room where the floor was full all the while I was there so again that was the djs doing their job and the music has I said earlier was something for everyone.Hope this gives you some idea of what the promoters john and debs are trying to achieve.

Best Regards Sam Moore

We only arrived after 2am as we had been to Steve n Claires wedding bash at Newark

I thought it was a fantastic nighter and I was amazed at the attendance considering it was the first nighter

I heard varied music and I did not hear a bad set whilst we where there

The dance floor was still busy at 6am when it closed

Whilst I loved all the sets I was blown away with Paul Maypole and Sammy Dee's sets..As dancers these guys know better than most what the dancers want and played a 100mph set for the dancers

Congratulations, we loved it and will be coming back again from Wigan

I actually also  played a Northern set of  classics on original labels like Larry Clinton, The Professionals, and some of the 70's releases that were so popular at the Coalvile All-Dayers in 1975.

Thought Saturday night was great and very nostalgic, stood on the spot where I did one of the worst record deals of my life, letting go the UK London demo of Darell Banks that has title and artist typed on it, not printed, sold it to Nev Wherry and knew I had made a mistake the second it left my hands!

Chatting to lots of people on Saturday who had different memories of who did what where and when at Tiffany's, Coalville in the 70's, so done a bit of research in old Blues & Soul's.

The original  All-Dayers at the venue were promoted by West Midlands Soul Club. Am pretty certain they started them there in late 1974. Found an advert today for WMSC All-Dayer on Sunday Feb 9,1975, DJ's were Pep, Paul Rudzitis, Soul Brothers, Steve Russell and Mick Flello.

My Heart Of England Soul Club held its first ever promotions at Coalville Tiffany's soon after and Blues & Soul ad lists  an  All-Dayer on Sunday March 16 with DJ's Colin Curtis, Pep, Kev Roberts, Basil and myself. Admission was £1 members and £1.10 non-members and I remember it being rammed. Jimmy Thomas did a PA performing "This Beautiful Night" and "Where There's A Will" and David Kassner from President Records came up from London,  and I can remember him on the dancfloor giving away Jay Boy and President demos!!

Ian Levine joined the DJ team soon after, and he and Colin became  the main DJ's at the All-Dayes.

We did a great Heart Of England Soul Club Coalville woven badge  with a coal mine pit head motif on it and in 1976 had an All-Nighter at the place. My ex-wife Jane  was in the cloakroom (exactly the same place in the club where it is now) selling the badges, but fell asleep and had loads nicked. She woke up and came to tell me when I was on what was then a big stage overlooking the dancefloor, and I was crouching down on the edge of the stage and had a right go at her. Jane was in no mood for being told off and hit me with a superb right hander and as I was off balance I went sprawling on the stage, much to the amusement of 100's of people watching from the dancefloor!

I was really busy working at Black Echoes and promoting The Manchester Ritz plus importing records as 1976 came along and Coalville became less of a priority. After I stopped promoting it Chris King came along and organised some great All-Nighters there.

Interesting stuff, Coalvile was my first all nighter in March 78 - had no idea what had gone on there previously.

I remember it being 12 hours at that time 8pm-8am!! Went to Wigan for the first time the following night (no gear) crazy days!

Certainly agree there, great spots by everyone. Evoked a lot of memories and so good to see old friends.

There was one dampener for me, Chris Kings comments at the end. Could not understand the motive as it was John and Debs hard work that made it happen, they should have took the accolade IMO.

Well done John and Debs, long may YOU continue with the venue.

Hi Every one I just want to clear some things up, it was a suprize, and may i had a shock to see chris king at Coalville saturday night.

The truth is that he was there to promote his soul nights and to make a couple of announcements on behalf of the club and to help me with some issues with what the club management was concerned about on a consultant basis.

Chris king Himself will have no part in organizing The Allnighter's thats my job.

The club owner Mr Michael Holland will be reducing the price of the drinks and will be supplying real beer and wine, tea and coffee.

The club will be closed for a few months while other issues like the toilets will be addressed.

I'm Glad that all the Soulies that attended had a good night and that with your support we will have many more.

Thank you all again for your support and i my self can't wait till we do another, but i will be around all my fav nights like Rugby, Stables, Ibstock, Ashby, Black Hearts Doing What I Enjoy Most Dancing And Listening To Good Soul Music.
