Some interesting facts:

One of the most talented, dynamic and prolific artists in the history of Motor City music, Melvin Davis isn't so much a musician as he is a musical force: songwriter, drummer, performer, producer, arranger, label owner… His bands have included everyone from a pre-Temptations David Ruffin to a post-MC5 Wayne Kramer. His drumming helped define The Miracles' Motown smash 'Tears Of A Clown', drove the Lyman Woodard Trio's double-sided funk masterpiece 'River Rouge' b/w 'It's Your Thing' and became the stuff of legend on Dennis Coffey's seminal LP "Hair And Thangs". He's the evocative lead vocalist behind the 8th Day's million seller 'You've Got To Crawl (Before You Walk)' and the songwriter who penned JJ Barnes' desperate ode 'Chains of Love'. The genre that has come to be called northern soul could hardly claim a more qualified ambassador, for Davis penned many of its most crucial cornerstones: Johnnie Mae Matthews' 'Lonely You'll Be', Darrell Banks' 'I'm The One Who Loves You', Lonette McKee's 'Stop! Don't Worry About It', Edward Hamilton's 'I'm Gonna Love You', Ann Perry's 'That's The Way He Is', Steve Mancha's 'I Won't Love You And Leave You'.

While Davis's very presence helped to define a myriad of local labels whose output was every bit as essential to the soul of Detroit's golden era as was Motown's, his profile as an artist has often been boiled down to the northern soul floor-fillers 'Find A Quiet Place (And Be Lonely)' and 'I Must Love You'. As brilliant as they are, it should come as no surprise that there is another side to Davis's early Detroit discography, one that is the very essence of the city's rockin' soul aesthetic. A true portrait of Melvin Davis would be incomplete without the superb sides he cut for tiny labels such as Jack Pot and Ke Ke, fiercely independent imprints like Fortune and Wheel City, and slightly larger concerns such as Groovesville.

A must for a long weekend me thinks, it's a fantastic venue with one of the largest wooden dance floors in Bournemouth. A great nite for ALL the Southern region's Soulies to get together for what will be without doubt a night to remember !!!

.

. That's what I've heard from my daughter who works for Lush in Poole, as The Carrington is where they host their annual works do. There's quite a large capacity to the function room - 4 to 500 and a large floor to boot. Hence, either side of the act, I'm looking to enjoying some dancing..

.

. Things have been rather sombre down in Bournemouth over the past couple of years. But at last we have something fresh and not of the norm to look forward to, to inject fresh life and interest into the local soul scene and probably a return of some of it's forlorn devotees, who have been absent in recent times.

.

. I've never been one for live acts. But Melvin Davis still has the ability to deliver strong vocals from the clips I've witnessed on Youtube and with his influence on the 60s soul scene and beyond, he's one strong member of a dying breed. The likes of which we may never see again! Therefore this occasion has to be something special to witness, for we just don't get big artists down here on the South Coast and this night at The Carrington will be a kind of landmark event.

.

. Find a quiet place to be lonely and Chains of love by Melvin are superb and hence, we're looking forward to the old maestro doing them fair justice in this one-off visit down south.

.

. Roll on Thursday the 14th, Dave & Jan

Ticket sales are going well, but there are still a few available.  So if anyone does require tickets we will be taking PayPal payments up until 10am tomorrow morning.  Tickets can then be left on the door for collection on the night.  Alternatively they can be purchased from the djs before the night.

Look forward to seeing you there....it's shaping up to be a great night.
