a big thanks again to everyone who attended last night,...yet another fantastic 2 room session!, lowton just keeps ploughing on and for anyone who still hasnt got the message, its all about quality and variety and last night the spinners dished it out in spades. both rooms buzzin'...that grumpy bloke, ian cunliffe dont half knock some bangin' tunes out all on the rare side and the same for kev, meanwhile bob hinsley's putting in a stirling shift of 90 mins and im naggin him to get the playlist up, so thats to be taken care of along with baz & ginger. we're right on for the next installment in may so watch this space and anybody tells you different just consult the oracle and i'll put you right, just get yer best dancin gear hung up and ready to go in 4 weeks time!!.

Spent all nite in the Dungeon @ the back room the music from Kev Murphy, Ginger Taylor, Les Harrison, Paul Shirley was outstanding real deal rare northern soul from current big plays around Europe to the biggest oldies from Wigan, Stafford ect ect the very best rare soul music from the 60's 70s blokes like Ginger and Paul S spend hell of a lot of dosh to buy these rare records to play out we are not talking ten bob records hear or carvers / boots like you hear at some venues but some of the Worlds rarest vinyl played out at Lowton it's a pity more people can't be bothered to support Ginger & Co in what they are doing in bringing us this great music to listen to.. I chipped in at midnite to do the last hour and it makes it worthwhile when people ask what certain records you played are saying they are great ...If people can't get off there arses and. come and support venues like Lowton then I'm afraid all we are going to have left is handbag and those oldies but goodies nites played on whatever by DJ,s who don't give a toss if it's on Stardust or boot or whatever...

But that could apply to lots of clubs ian promoters on here are always bleating about support for there clubs, but you only ever see them at there own clubs.A few should practise what they preach.

I'm not talking about promoters Andy I'm talking about soulies who say they like hearin something different than the top 500 but when venues start up a room and get good DJs in to play rare original 45 s they can't be bothered to come and support them it's not just Lowtons back room there are several good nites around the Northwest that play great music but people who say they want something different just can't be arsed to come out. Anyway back to Friday nipped to the bar while Ginger was on in the main room and he was playing some great stuff and plenty dancing too...

ian's correct andy, the underlying trend is encouraging the punters, its establishing the belief, because many have heard it all before. its necessary, more than ever now, to be completely open and transparent...that is how we look at it at lowton and i think you'd agree with that. we know ginger, for instance, has got unbelieveable tuneage in his boxes and the time's right now for it and he has talked thoroughly about this. when any dj has made a commitment to invest over many years, fruition is whats needed to be seen, payback in the form of people dancing to something different, so that its all worthwhile...you've done it, ive done it and many others besides. i will always be of the opinion that the scene wont degenerate so long as there's this music to be had, no-ones ever going to forget the top 500 because its part of our heritage, but the belief that was shown in say, st ives, stafford etc is the mantle thats carried forward and there are venues who still want to display a willingness to set a standard thats still a cut above the rest....kev ran this ship for 15 years, a remarkable feat in any stretch of the imagination and its been at the forefront because of its music policy...no-one was ever complaining too bitterly then and nobody is now. we always get optimistic comments, sure, there's a couple of little things that need ironing out, one being making sure both rooms are adequately warmed up before service, though i did hear that the back room was like bermuda on friday, in which case its shorts in may!. yes, it didn't help that march was a no-go, but nobody in their right mind is going to take a loss in the wake of prestatyn and of course some killjoy who tried unsucessfully to put the poison down, i.e. closure, hasn't been identified and probably just as well for fear of reprisals, thus as you see, ive pre-empted any strike by posting the details for may. we had roughly 150 in....thats still not bad...i did note there were at least 20 gigs on nationally ( advertised on ss of course ) for those who chose not to, i cant speak. im asking all concerned to make a concerted effort to push our case, get playlists up, get on fb & twitter and for anyone who isn't yet convinced, to look at the samplers and voice your choice..it might not be out & out grumpy or boomerang and, incidentally i haven't been to either but i love reading about them and every credit to them but we are trying to raise the profile much in the same way.

We enjoyed Lowton on Friday, think I can go as far as to say, some of the best music i've heard in that back room in all the years I've been going.

I agree with AGENTSMITH, I do think that the dj's should post play lists to show folk just what they are missing. Its a great venue and long may it continue.

Not disagreeing with any of that and of late i do attend lowton and lots of other local clubs. The fact remains though that the oldies top 500 boot leg clubs fancy dress nites are booming, wereas the raresoul scene is in a fairly rapid decline.Record winging its way to you see you in may.
