Hi Daz,

Good job it was an old banger and needed replacing anyway.

It was amazing how many people even tried to get to the last one with some of the worst possible driving conditions on the roads ( Bloody Snow ).

What was even more astounding was how many people actually got to the event.

Even more outstanding was the vast array of multi coloured wellies lined up in the foyer.

Cheers   Phil

Hi Mark,

The most well known hotel in Buxton is the Palace but on lateroom it looks a bit pricey, we stayed there once and it wasn't great.  Lateroom also are showing the Portland hotel but we haven't stayed here, both of these hotels are within walking distance (5 mins max).  There are a lot of guesthouses within 5 mins walk also.

Hope you find somewhere nice, Sue.

is the music at  this venue better than Parr Hall and definitely not a handbag event? I ask because the last few hours at Parr hall last month were dire.

Arrived early and was disappointed to see in the bar area, no vendors of records, clothing or badges which made this room look very bare compared to previous visits.

The venue itself is amazing with wall to wall wooden flooring. The bar area is a massive plus being separated from the dance hall.

All seating in the hall which is octagon shaped are around the perimeter, therefore people seldom walk across the dance floor.

Musically with some big names playing on the night dancing started 30 mins in, and never stopped till the end. (The floor was always full).

BUT !     Not going to mention any names (this time!) later in the night the music lost its way and became pretty average. Even saw people jiving to one record !

The venue ended at 1am and I would say as a Northern soul night it was a very good and with excellent toilets for a change. I would definitely go again. 8/10

Many thanks to phil for inviting me to spin a few thought the night was brilliant great crowd with various knowledge of soul music really sorry if any of my tracks I played did not reach rverybodys taste but of the 19 records I played 8 of those were requested sounds and if people ask me for them and I have them they get played Personally I thought the mix of music was great fom the well known to the slightly rarer stuff and the dance floor was full just about all night fantastic venue and sound system in a hall to die for once again thanks to phil for the invite and I hope I can come back see you all soon I hope yocky

I got there on the late side due to other commitments, Yocky had just started his set and he had  the place bouncing, I was to play the last set so maybe it was myself that was 'average', not a problem, I did my best with the help of Phil and Yocky to 'pull up' a set of selections that hadn't already been played,

It was the last 50 minutes of a twice yearly oldies party, I called it as I saw it, the floor was packed to the end, even after the lights went up, tried to play most requests and loved every minute,

Thanks for the invite, a fantastic venue professionally promoted by good people, value for money and some,

Til next time :hatsoff2:

Hello All

Another great night at "The Octagon".  Venue busy from the start with plenty of dancers on the floor at 8.00pm.  All the lads delivered the goodies and as far as I know all the requests were catered for.

Fabulous night that you can't help but enjoy, can't wait for the next one.  Thanks to all the attendees and big thanks to Phil and Sue for inviting me to this prestigious venue that should be a "must visit" in everyone's diary.

See you at the next one then.

KTF
