I have just been informed Des Jones has been replaced by a Better known Midlands DJ and another Quality Lancashire DJ. Can't wait

Better known DJ?! It's politics like this that spoils the scene - insult DJs on here and you alienate their friends and your own potential punters.

Yes entirely agree with the last comment, but there seems to be ill feelings about this night and the one 6-miles away. Petty things have been done and said which is childish. It's all about the MUSIC not the promoters and d.j's.

Hope both nights are well attended!!

Fulledge....... Don't come much bigger then des......he's one of the best dj's in the the northwest and a great guy,and like soulkaz says this is politics and the shit you've put on here goes to prove it right.....was thinking of trying this event after the muni but sod that

Padiham Pete, I never said Des wasn't one of the best DJ's in the northwest I know he is that's why he was invited to Soul Survivors. And as for politics yes there is and you know where it's all coming from because your involved in it, so don't you come on here acting all high and mighty. Pulled any flyers down lately.

A Better Known DJ Than Des Jones ? I Think You Need To Get Out A Lot More To Soul Nights In Lancashire - Des Is  One Of The North Of England's Top DJS And Runs His Own (Very Successful Soul Night ) I Think An Apology To Him In Person Is Required . As For Your Soul Night As The Saying Goes You PAY Your Money You Take Your Chances . I Know I Wont Be Going Myself. And With Statements About Des Jones I Think Some Will Look At What You Have Said And Start Them Thinking About Going - I Guess Saturday Night Will Sort That Out .

A lot of bitching going here me thinks?? and I bet Des couldn't give a dam? I think he can rise above all this as well as the majority of the Souliies. Like I said before it's the promoters/d.j.s  who do all the squawking !!

slow down fulledge......need to get your facts right before you go round accusing someone of pulling flyers down i think everyone as a right to start a soul night up as long as it doesntt interfer with someone who been doing it for 13 years on that date

See what I mean?? It's a free country does one need permission to hold a Soul night??? LOL.

Okay so "Fulledge"'s term "better known Midlands DJ" was a little unfortunate, but is there really any need for all of this?  Have a bit of dignity fellas!!!   Come on, kiss and make up....

Just a few words to express our thanks to Andy and Lester for a warm welcome to their first night at the Hollowed Turf. The venue and set-up was a credit to their hard work and endeavour. I would guess about 120+ folk in last night which is pretty good for a first night. Music and d.jing was spot on and bar staff and security also very good.

May their task to bring an alternative Soul night to the area using local d.j's who wouldn't otherwise  get to play-out their records be successful?

We had  real good time here. A good honest effort for a first allnighter. As stated previously a warm and friendly welcome...in a great venue., with a crowd that had clearly come for dancing...

There's no reason why this nighter shouldn't go on and be a great success

well done lads...keep up the good work

I was disappointed not to have been able to get there, my last spot at the Highgate was midnight till 1.0 and we had a christening to go to Sunday morning. So anyone thinking it was "Political"....the reason for us not turning up, that wasn't the case.

Ill certainly be there at the next one if invited!

Im glad it went well and folks enjoyed the night...well done Lester.

Credit due to Andy & Lester for the effort in organising & everyone else for making this a successful & enjoyable first niter at Burnley F.C.Putting the Politics aside ....which i never get involved in anyway ...as i've always said Politics belongs in the House of Commons ..and not on the 'soul scene' .

It is a free country supposedly,so people will decide which venues they want to attend, and vote with their feet, and on this occasion both venues were

well attended. If i hadn't been deejaying at a private function till 12-00pm i most likely would have paid a visit to Colne, but it was not possible.

I arrived at Turf Moor around 1-50am to start my set at 2am-3am .All the dj's after 3am played some great music and kept the dancers on the floor till 6am.and should all be commended.

  For those who missed it,heres my set list,i started off with the first record which got me interested in 'Northern Soul' which had a lasting effect on me,when Tony Jebb' played it in the Highland Room all those years ago;

Edwin Starr-Back Street (US Ric-Tic)

Billy Butler - Right Track (US-Okeh Demo)

Larry Williams & Johnny Watson-A Quitter Never Wins (US Okeh Demo)

Dee Dee Sharp - What Kind Of Lady (UK Action)

Bob Relf - Blowing My Mind To Pieces (US- Trans-American)

The Prophets - I Got The Fever (US-Smash Demo)

The Apolla's -Mr Creator (US-WB)

Clarence Murray - Don't Talk Like That (US SSS-International Demo)

Mr Flood's Party - Compared To What (UK Bulldog)

Ike & Tina Turner - Dust My Broom (US-Tangerine Demo)

Chuck Jackson - Hand It Over (US-Wand Demo)

Bobby Freeman - I'll Never Fall In Love Again (US-Autumn Demo)

Ben E King - I Can't Break The News To Myself (US -Atco)

Denise LaSalle - A Love Reputation (US-Tarpon)

Jackie Lee - Oh My Darlin' (US-Mirwood)

Yvonne Baker -You Didn't Say A Word (US-Parkway Demo)

Shirley Lawson - One More Chance (UK Soul City)

The Gospel Classics - More Love,That's What We Need (UK-Chess)

Soul Brothers Six - I'll Be Loving You (US-Atlantic Demo)

Barbara Lewis - I Remember The Feeling (US-Atlantic Demo)

Paul Anka - When We Get There (US- RCA Demo)

Bobby Hebb - You Want To Change Me (US -Philips Promo) #REQUEST#

Johnnie Taylor - Friday Night (US-Stax) #REQUEST#

JJ Barnes - Please Let Me In (US Ric-Tic) #REQUEST#

Spooner's Crowd - Two In The Morning (US Cadet One Sided Demo)

Yes Steve, you missed a good night. Andy and Lester did a good job as hosts and hope they organise another one a.s.a.p. Got to d.j. myself (twice)thought I was in heaven playing Northern soul next to the hollowed Turf. Different crowd, different d.j's refreshing change!!

Just one question  " if you never get involved in politcs "   why after the record artist and title have you put  the record labels and if they are issue, demo ,or us or uk ?

It's not politics it's trainspotting and its nice that he has listed the records he played. Would have listed mine if I was that way inclined and if I could remember, but I think I played out Robbie & Robyn, Hesitations, Mary Sneed, James Brown and even Cassius Clay to name but a few. Not going in to too much detail though. A good night was had by all.

Next question ,

why say there were 120 +  people there when in truth it was  60 - 80 max ?

having spoken to  people who attended   mmmmmmmmmmmm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you spoken to the promoters?? I'm not a promoter but was at the event from 8 : 45 till 4 :30 and people came and left . so I stand by my initial comment.

In reply to the Politics question ......i wasn't referring to the politics of record labels etc if you had read what i had written in the context it was meant to be read.....but if i had played anything such as a second issue or pressing,i would have declared the same, although i only possess around six records which come into this category, and these spend all the time at home and not in the box .....the labels and whether us or uk or demo etc were only listed for information purposes .....and however many people attended, they seemed to have had an enjoyable night.....i too enjoyed it and left at around 6am ....
