It's been a while since I have been able to get down to a con soul night looking forward to tonight spinning a few tunes and talking bollox about records? Can't believe I'm behind the decks 2 weekends in a row it's been a long time since that happened a very long time! Expect to hear some original groovesvile studio acetates dusted off for tonight!! So come on show some support for one of the hardest working local soul clubs in the north! "Use it before you lose it" Triode

Right! better go& organise the barriers to keep the crowds in place till we open!

However many turn up tonight, you can be sure of hearing some brilliant music!

We know there is a lot going on tonight, but we will just spread out on the dance floor!

See you later folks!

It is with regret we announce the demise of Con. Soul.  After much deliberation, we have decided to call it a day

We have mixed emotions about  this decision, part relief, sadness, & a bit of anger to be honest!

We have come to conclusion that people pay "lip service" to rare & underplayed clubs, they say they want

something "different", but then dont give the clubs the support they need! We know there were 2 allnighters

on last night, & another local do, which by rights, plays totally different music to us, & it is the holiday season,

but it is "soul destroying" (no pun intended!) when we have great DJS on, with brilliant records, & there are not

enough people to appreciate them!

Grant,Paul & Doddy played some superb sounds last night, (& Dereck!),  Thanks guys!

We are not sure what went wrong with this venue, maybe the top name Djs we had on were not inspiring enough for folk! maybe the bar was too cheap...we will never know!

Maybe we should haveplayed " The top 500"? mmm...? or maybe definitely not! there are enough venues doing that already, but we stuck to our guns, tried something different, butunfortunately, never

took off!Well wew gave it a shot, & we did have some great nights over the years, especially our charity nights! many thanks to everyone who supported us over the years, wewwill prob see some of you out & about! We are off to the Bradford Charity Alldayer, today, where I am sure, Derecks music will be appreciated there!

Thats all folks!

Bidding you all a fond farewell!

To the con soul gang thank you for the nights you have ran and I think you gave it your best shot Thought the music last light was top notch but to be honest that doesn't appear to have anything to do with numbers attending these days? I had a great chat with Grant last night (one of the nicest guys on the scene with awesome records as well) Hadn't met Doddy before but clearly a man with taste! And of course Derek and Sheila running there events always in a very professional manner yet still with a smile I've got a feeling they will be back soon with something ? I certainly hope so........... Regards Triode

Can we just say a huge thank you to all the fantastic DJS who have supported us over the past few years.

It was flippin hard work some weeks!

We are slightly bemused by the lack of comments to our announcement, even if you think you know why this venue wasnt successful, we would welcome your comments!

We dont like apathy!

It seems to be the case that it won't even be missed. However, that might be down to the fact that, when we moved to the new venue, no one came with us, which is precisely the problem.
Maybe it was the shift in music policy? But you can't fault the guests, Joe Dutton/Brett Franklin/Liam Quinn/Carms/Sid - all top draw.

Everything sems to be city centre based and bar based, sometimes with free entry (Dulcimer for example). The death of the social club soul (unless you're a top 500er) is upon us maybe.

But at least we had a go.
Personally, I don't go out enough locally, but Dereck put a shift in most weekends!
We didn't produce flyers, but equally, most of it is doen online now and when I have been out, there has been 10x the flyers for the amount of people...it's just becoming a poorly attended activity.

Mark my words, soon they'll be less choice, everything that is on, that is worth attending will be quarterly or twice yearly and it'll be far more cosmopolitan, not necessarily city-centre based, but if you're not near a vibrant space or a decent train station you can forget it!

big shame this is now finished but i wish you would give a second thought, maybe every other month? great little venue worth while attending just to hear that little bit different with not a baggy pant in sight (bliss).

Sorry that you have decided to pull the plug on Con.Soul. Have enjoyed playing for you in the past and was looking forward to September with

Nev. The Christmas nights always a full house and lots of fun.

Wishing you all the best of luck in the future.

Hi hun I just want to say a big thank you , I know how committed you and Derek have been in trying to bring us a variety in soul . I too can't understand why other people have not shown the Prestwich venue more support , if anything the new venue had a better dance floor and two rooms ! the tram station was five minutes walk which took you into the city centre , car parking was free and available , drinks were cheap ... so in short I can't put reason to it. Its not like its miles away from the Whitefield venue ?

Sometimes you just have to let go and move on , its sad but you walk away from this with your head held high , you gave it your best shot and NOBODY could have done more.

On a personal level I respect you both so much and will always have an appreciation for your efforts , you gave me and many others so much freedom in letting us play from our hearts and learn to not fear people not dancing sometimes and listening instead.

I do hope after some time out you will put the odd one on and if needed I will do all that I can to help even if it means running in and out of the door so it looks like more people have come :)  remember our "parker" night lol and gibby falling  through the door after a three hour journey to get to you from over the hills xx

Don't take away the sadness of not achieving what you hoped , walk away with the memories of all those good times we shared together xxx
