We would like to thank Jem for letting us share his birthday celebrations in the Den. we have been avidly looking to run a Charity event for Retinitis Pigmentosa for some time now with no better venue and people in mind. For those who don't already know, Trace suffers with RP (Retinitis Pigmentosa)and has done for many years now hence bringing it closer to home. Really looking forward to this, with some top quality djs and collectors behind the decks.

Many Thanks

Hi Folkz,

When I learned of Tracey’s condition I really felt for her, as I can’t imagine how hard it must be to live with day in, day out. Tracey, I am happy you feel comfortable at ‘Soul in the Bowl’, and hope we all raise plenty for such a worthy cause - whilst having ‘lotso’ fun to boot of course

…..Oh yeh - HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEM!.......That has got to be THE Cheesiest poster to date mate — FANTASTIC!

Spread the word folks — ‘Jem’s putting on a freebie’ — Now THAT is hot news! …….Pssst - don’t forget to donate if you can guyz

More info and ‘Witty Banter’ to follow :excl:  :D

All the best,

Hi Folkz,

I have HOT NEWS for you! - We have the privilege of adding Adam Buchanan to ‘The Den’s D.J line up!.....We at ‘The Den’ pride ourselves in using mainly ‘Under The Radar’ D.J’s that offer something of their own, and Adam fully understands that policy. He is not coming to ‘take over’, he is coming to simply play some records that are ‘close to his heart’ - He is one of many that has been ‘waiting in the shadows’ for The Revolution!

To some locals, Adam is just ‘Adam from Harborough’ - Have some respect!…..I see him as ‘National Adam’ For those that don’t know him, Adam was ‘doing it’ before a lot of ‘The Big Boys’ of today, travelling up to Wigan as a 15 year old just to buy the records. He went on to D.J at the famous Stafford All-nighters, along with Leicester Old Fellows, The 100 Club, Cleethorpes, and many more, he was also the ‘Main Man’ in most Modern Rooms for a number of years.

For more info on Adam, see Chalky’s Pod Casts on the Stafford Story……..

All the best,

Len

This will be a great night, Adam was an innovative DJ at Stafford and went on for many years to be a main stay in the modern room at Cleethorpes weekender, as well as his appearances at Rugby Allnighter. Get out and support this worth while event.

Don’t forget to ‘reprogram’ yourselves to ‘Early start - Early finish’ mode folks, lots of people are now doing just that, and arriving bang on 7.30. This way you still get your five and a half hours, the same as 8.30pm - 2.00am, it’s just ‘shifted!’

Hi Folkz,

Don’t forget we welcome Feed-back (positive or negative) as long as it’s constructive — ‘Information without emotion’……For example, at times the music was a bit loud at the last one, so if this happens again, just go and tell the D.J to turn it down - it can be hard to tell from behind the decks sometimes.

Identity - For those that haven’t been, ‘The Den’ has been described as a Mid-tempo Room, a ‘Modern Room’ and not forgetting ‘F*ckin’ Shit’ :D I didn’t really want that aggressively whispered in my ear after a really successful night, still ‘ A promoters lot is a promoters lot’ and these things have to be dealt with - I soooo wanted to turn round and say “Say it, not spray it, you rude little man!”…..Alas, I was too scared :D……Anyway, ‘The Den’ is ‘none of the above’ - We simply play good soul music in there.

Here’s another for ya ‘The Specials — You Stood Me Up’

All the best,

Len

Tracey and myself already thought we had a top line up of Quality friends behind the decks for this evening, for Adam to join us will make it extra special. Rp is a terrible disease of which people need to be made more aware of,this is the reason we are trying to raise funds in the Den on June 15th.

So sorry to miss this one Len. I know you know the reasons and I hope you understand.

Gonna really miss polishing that little corner of the den dance floor for you!

Hope you all have a ball. See you next time!!

Would still really like to make a donation to Tracey's charity. Is there some other way we can donate?

Hi Neil,

Yes it's a b*gger, I also wanted to 'be where you will be!'. I spoke to Chick and we both looked to see if the clash could be avoided, it's just one of those things - no biggie. I hope you guys all have a great 'Spirit of', and see you all 'there' or 'here' some time soon.

Ref donations, if you can tell anyone else that wants to donate - To just give me the cash direct, that'll be fine.......... :elvis:

All the best,

Len

P.s - ....Or maybe not - Dave, could you answer Neils' question with ref donations please? - Thanks.

Hello me Shropshire lovlies,

you will be sadly missed at lunchtime and at nite, but no fear we will have a pint for you. Its sad these 2 events have clashed because we would all be at one or the other, we will try to keep the Den standards as high as ever. This is the first event Trace has done for RP, we are trying to get a link page attached for donations, a lot of Denners have already sent  donations in direct to Trace.

See you somewhere soon

Hi mate,

Yes, when I bought it off Butch (asking for 'my' side) he did say......."It's actually the other side most buy it for Len”…….’of course’ I took that as a massive compliment! :)……..although he may well have been ‘non plussed’ at my ‘want’ (it’s hard to tell :D)

………As you say 'Horses for courses' an' all that - it’s exactly this attitude that we are trying to promote in 'The Den'. Some records may not be to everyone’s taste ‘all night’, but people listen and respect whoever has put their heart and soul into sharing them — going a tad ‘left field’ sometimes is the only way to keep it all interesting - All I ask of the D.J's is to keep it soulful!

I hope you enjoy your first visit (I’m sure you will)……if not, you only have Garry to blame!:D

See you there.

Len

Main room, Main room, Main room - G*d!......he he, only joking mate.....For those who haven't been - the main event is of course the main room, with a regular attendance of 200 people all 'dancing hard' all night. It really is an incredible atmosphere down there, and it has to be said the reason the threads are mainly about ‘The Den’ is that most of these guys and gals simply aren’t on Soul-source — They turn up, have a good dance, go home, and then get on with their lives (Strange lot :D)

All the best,

Len

Specials - I Can't Find Another.......This is the one you really want from them. Beast of a tune!!! Perhaps more of a nighter tune than one for the Den though.... love the bass in this.

p.s. ignore the next few posts - that's what you get for trying to use an i-pad with minimum understanding and an IQ of 23  at midnight!!!  must be a way to delete them, but can't work out how?  Anyway, it'll certainly bump up the number of posts against this thread

Hi 'Mrs Tosspot'.......the only help I can give is to say it's near Waitrose just off the A45 - At that point, off the roundabout (plus a mini one very close to it) go towards Higham Ferrers, and it's on the left hand side. Look out for the wooden 'A' board, as it's down a little lane / drive just after that.....I daren't say more (I have stories :D)

If that's wrong someone please 'step in'!

Stay on the A6 from K

Stay on the A6 from Kettering. After you've crossed the viaduct over the Nene just after Irthlingborough (and thus are entering bandit country) you turn right at the Chowns Mill Roundabout on to the A45 heading towards Northampton/Wellingboro. After about 1.5 miles on the Dual carraigeway turn left at the next roundabout. Go over the mini roundabout (Lidl is on your right at this point) and the bowls club is about 100-200 yards up the road on your left. :)

And yet another cracking night was had, the 'Den' is now developing its own identity which comes from jocks who aint afraid to push the boundaries and then some but more importantly the punters who come into the room, stay and show the jocks that there on the right track.

Last night all the jocks in the 'Den' were on fire, brilliant to see Adam out behind a set of decks and as you would have expected soon got the gist of the room and had everyone up and at it. It wont be long before tunes played in this room filter out into the main room, just how it should be and how its happened for the past 30+ years.

Chewed the fat and put our soul world under scrutiny with so many nice like minded soul folk, you know who you are, respect due and duly paid to you all.

My only complaint is that I have to leave the 'Den' to get a drink! and that home time comes tooooooooooooooo quickly.

When's the next one.

Gouch

Tracey and myself would like to thank everybody involved with last night, what a fantastic turn out for Jems birthday and the charity event, we would to thank the promoters, Jem, Len and the Steves for this special evening.

Many Thanks go out to all the main room djs and big thank you to the Den djs. Adam,Len,Gilly & Nichola,Stevie P, The birthday boy Jem and of course our travelling companion Lord Snow.

We Think the kids should be made permanent Door Staff for the Stirling job they did on the door and the raffle.

Lastly a big THANKS to everybody that attended, making Jems birthday one he will never forget and for digging so deep into their pockets for RP, also the people that could not attend but still donated kindly.

The fantastic sum raised stands at £1245.50, we are totally overwhelmed

THANK YOU

Dave and Tracey

“….Juuuust keep smiling Bob, pretend you haven’t seen him and he’ll go away eventually, we simply must play ‘Tragedy’. Did I tell you it was my favourite record?”……..“In actual fact Dave, ‘my ol’ mate’, I’m really into that ‘In A Moment’ thing Lenny’s been playing, have you heard it?”……..

…..He did…….I did……they did…… :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEM! :D

All the best,

Len

One thing that really did make me smile, was the fact I got 'heckled' in the main room (Apparently this has happened to all ‘The Greats’ :D)…..It was slightly disturbing though, because I wasn’t even D.Jing!........Just kidding, I was….Hang on, that’s still not good is it?! - Doh!

I was relaying some 'interesting anecdote' over the mike, when I heard…..“Get on with it!”…..Whoever it was, 'obviously' couldn’t wait for my next ‘Slab of Soul’ - All very encouraging! :D…….The Main Room, isn’t just ‘another’ Oldies Room, and this is what we are trying to get across to people.

All the best,

Len

I remember letting a young 14 year old lad into a venue i co ran with my cousin (johnny red pants warren) 36 years ago and now we are attending his nights and more importnalty celebrating his 50th.

I really dont know where he gets his shirts from lol but its great to see the success that this venue has had since opening. It just grows and grows! Keep up the good work Jem and co and happy birthday mate.
