Why don't the non soulies IE handbaggers and pissheads stick to the other rooms ????? Its a brilliant venue a fantastic dancefloor but the " NON BELIEVERS" spoil it for the true soulies who just wanna dance and enjoy the music not get pissed up and act like dickheads on the dancefloor with their drinks and handbags ....eeeeeeek ... :(.

Well said Lindylou18!  A huge round of applause for you lass!!

The demise of the northern room of this venue is almost wholly attributable in my view to the involvement of Smooth FM (now Smooth Radio) who through their advertising and marketing turned it into a late night cattle market for the drunks of Blackburn who have ripped it out of our hands.  I don't think it has anything to do with the other rooms, or the people who patronise them, it has to do with late night drinkers in Blackburn wanting to take advantage of a "night club" atmosphere until 3am.  This is a fabulous venue, a superb dance floor, and one which the soulies have all but given up the battle for judging by the numbers attending these days.  The soul nights at King George's Hall are a mere shadow of their former glory.   The vast dance floor, once packed and bouncing to decent music, is now a ghost floor except for an array of wobbling stilettos and sloshing pint pots, tables are empty, and the atmosphere has gone. No more are tickets sold out weeks before, no more are people turning up in the hope of getting a last minute deal outside the venue.  The door staff and security have dwindled. People sit at the vast empty tables waiting to go home, yawning and rolling their eyes at the debacle this event has become. This fantastic night is going to slide away into the soul archives and we will be left with nothing but memories.  The DJs haven't helped; they have been playing to the "handbag"  and youth club floor for too long.  I believe in April we had Ski-ing in the Snow, played not once, OH NO,  but TWICE, and get this....in the same set?!  I don't know what the answer is.....the northern soul scene was always underground, Smooth FM brought it overground in Blackburn and turned King George's Hall into a circus and freakshow for handbaggers to abuse and take the pi55 out of our scene and our dancing.  For me the sooner these nights in the current form finish, the better, then the soulies can get their hands back on it and run it as it should be; quietly, as a top class soul venue for northern soul pilgrims.  My crew won't be setting foot in the place until then.  Rant over, and apologies for any offence but it has to be said.  The numbers speak for themselves.  I am tired of people moaning about it and being too polite to voice what we are all thinking!  GIVE US BACK KING GEORGE'S HALL AND GET LINDYLOU18 SOME DECENT CIDER!

Blimey - I live 3 miles  from this venue and haven't been for the very reasons lindlylou18 & flamingemeralds mention .

For all the security they have in attendance at KGH - The first "Crime " was allowing ayone venture across the floor /or on it for that matter with Alcohol -  Once is too many ...

I smile when people from my area who are aware that I follow the Northern soul scene ask if I visit KGH - Soul events.  B E H A V E !

Only ever make a mistake once ! Some BIG names on the list spinning the tunes -  Maybe ask the people visting the N.Soul room to name there favourite track !  -

I must admit the first and last time I went it was very entertaining - But not for the reasons I go to a soul do...

Agree with everything said, such a shame because it used to be great. Thought I was at a really poorly turned out christening. Pleas Richard saw it too because he was stood watching at certain points. You can't want that Richard. The two Petes played tubing great music but I could see tottering women asking them for band of gold and Jimmy mack and they were complaining to each other because they didn't have them with them! This must be how gay people feel when straight women gatecrash their venues. Feck off to seedyville with your clodhoppers
