DAVE CROCKER'S UNIQUE "TIME LAPSE" PORTRAITS TO BE DEBUTED AT PRESTATYN 2014!

Dave Crocker is an artist living in Plymouth. He has loved soul music since the early 70s when for a short while he did a youth club disco in Cambridgeshire.

In October 2013 Dave started his latest project , a series of portraits of singers, musicians, DJs and dancers from the soul music scene. While most of his portraits of singers and musicians will be made from historical references his portraits of dancers and DJs will be contemporary. Dave makes time lapse films of his paintings which can be viewed on his youtube channel davecrockerart.

Dave will be exhibiting his unique product at the Prestatyn Soul weekender in March 2014 to demonstrate this unique way of capturing the essence of many of Northern Soul's biggest names. Get ready for something special!

The Prestatyn Soul weekender takes place at Pontins Prestatyn over the weekend of March 6th-9th 2014 and 3 or 4 night stay deals start from only £49 pp.

To book , please call 0844 576 5949 or online : www.pontins.com . Please use booking reference : NSP1

Unfortunately due to prior commitments Black Bee Soul Club will not be able to do the set on Saturday

afternoon in Redemption

However in their place we are very pleased to announce that

"Stafford's Top of the World All Nighters " to be revived at the Prestatyn Soul Weekender!

Dave Thorley's legendary Stafford All Nighter will be revived in a special 2 hour session at the next Prestatyn Weekender. Rated by many as the venue that pioneered a new breed of mid tempo rare soul and 60s RnB in the early 1980's , the session will follow on from Ady Croasdel's "100 Club" matinee show which runs from 3pm -6pm in Redemption. Founder DJ / promoter Dave will be assembling the Stafford DJ line up for what will be a very welcome and extremely popular Top of the World reunion and is further evidence of the DJ creativity at the event which sees the specialist rooms running longer hours, but with a dramatically improved menu of music.

Looking forward to another brilliant week-end at Prestatyn.

Let's hope the management put more bar staff on this year to cater for the masses. Last year's transition from Pontins went smoothly apart from Friday night with everyone queuing for ages at both bars and the bar staff getting grief even though they were doing their best

Selling records at Prestatyn

It is respectfully advised that as all the official merchandisers have paid for their sales tables, it will not be possible for any unauthorised traders to set up at the event . Walking round with a small box of 45s is admissible but any unofficial record dealers who have not paid for the space cannot just set up at tables in the venues . Please respect the official merchandisers wishes and do not bring records to sell if you have not booked a sales table in advance . Thank you.

Prestatyn Soul Weekender is rapidly approaching so I thought it a good idea to do a bit on “How to survive a Northernsoul Weekender”.

What You Will Need:

Prestatyn chalets can be colder than a witches tit so a hot water bottle and warm night stuff is a must, your favourite quilt and pillow can be quite awesome if you have room to take it. Whilst on the subject of getting your big fat head down, I know an eye mask and ear plugs can just make the difference between actually getting some well need kip and listening to some fooker farting and snoring all night!

The usual hygiene stuff. Toilet paper and lots of it. Toothbrush, toothpaste, babywipes, body spray

Medical Stuff. Painkillers will be needed for hangovers and shit, orange juice and a bottle for water. Taps are on site, but you'll need a bottle to fill up.

Don’t take anything you value as expensive stuff does tend to go walkies - if there's something you're not prepared to lose, don't bring it with you.

Wear the most comfortable pair of shoes you can find that you like to dance in, if your gonna go mental chicken oriental try to remember not to burn out on the first night coz you may as well not bother, it is a weekender after all.

Remember what happens at Prestatyn Soul Weekender stays at Prestatyn Soul Weekender, your best mate you see every Allnighter can all of a sudden become a pain in the bum with a weekend of irritating habits that may drive you bonkers so chill and remember that you have to be more tolerant because you may also be the one getting on peoples tits n shit.

The human body is a machine and it runs on water, hydrate or die! Drink water, then drink some more and keep an eye on your friends and shit, some times an offer of a swig of water seals friendships for ever and it can literally save lives.

This may sound a bit boring but have a good look at what’s on, you don't have to plan like the D-Day landings but take time out to peep into the other rooms, you don't need to bother with the dirty RnB stuff but go and give the Modern-room a spin.

If you get in the shit go and grab on of the security peeps, chances are they will know their stuff first aid wise or they will get you sorted quickly so don't panic and shit.

Lastly, ave it fookin large!

There's usually enough Rugby fans around for the staff to put the 6 Nations games on in the Queen Vic, at least I've watched many's the game there before at the Weekenders......UNLESS, there's a clash with a big Liverpool game at the same time, in which case we might have to head into town.

A pub in Prestatyn called the The Clywdian will show the rugby, but there's more atmosphere on the moon, frankly! It's weirdly just not a very 'Welsh' (i.e. rugby daft!) part of Wales really......Some locals told me of a local rugby club that I should head to, but damned if I can remember the name.....One way or the other, I will be watching it!

Wendy made a start on getting the Prestatyn supplies ready on Friday.....

Looking at the stuff she's already committed to the cause, I'm not really that sure whether we're going to a weekender or setting up base camp at Mount Everest. ...........

However, with the unusually promising weather forecast looking decidedly un-Prestatyn like, I think we just might risk not taking the toboggan.....

Had a great time at Prestatyn. The event that brings together all shades of the scene and celibrates what's happening around it. Not all of it for me, but so much good stuff, that there were always many options of places to be, chat, laugh and dance. The Impressions, were off the good scale, still have great voices, they treated us to an hour of ballads and dancers, but everyone a classic. Richard Searling and his team did a fantastic job and with 3500 peeps in and all that I saw and spoke to smiling and enjoying themselves, a great weekend. The records available for sale were amazing, for those that want that, the rest of the 'Soul Bazzar' not for me, but clearly some like that and each to his own. In fact that is what this event does so well, it entertains all shades of the soul scene and long may it continue to do so.

The Tighten Up room went well for it's first, bringing another dimension to the mix of music played across the weekend. A massive thanks to David Ripolles, David Abbott, Ian Wright, Leona Murphy Mick H and SoulShakers Bamberg for their sets and enthusiasum for the idea of the room. Not going to say "room awesome, DJ's played out of their socks, and busy room Etc". No, over all a good starting point, floor was busy all night, but room numbers fluctuated all night. But myself & Richard S were happy enough to do it again next year. Soul Sam says hi to everyone and says he'll be back for next year. Thanks to all that came and joined in, especially the dancers, who never left the floor all night.

Lastly loved the 2 hour Stafford set with my old nevigator Ady Pountain next to me. shocking time 5-7 saturday afternoon, so was so pleased to see so many come to join us. It was fun to be back there if only sound wise for a few hours and clearly the people in the room did.

So all in all fab weekend, for any decenters, get over yourselves, it's a once a year bit of fun with many old mates; not critical Nato peace talks upon which civilization it's self depends.

Brilliant weekend......but some miserable git  always has to moan about something .......and here i am .....why does the room with the best music all weekend (Redemption ) have one of the shittest dancefloors known to mankind!! I don't doubt for one minute none of  the organisers tried to dance on it !! It's bloody frustrating to hear top tunes and either not bother dancing to them or going arse over tit. Shame for the DJ's as well !!! I would love to hear back from anyone involved with the event organisation with regards to this .....it was like that last year  as well !!....Best wishes Michael Flatley !!!

Always wanted to see the river dance so sorry I missed your version and totally agree with you Mr Flatley the floor was shite and spoiled the enjoyment of some good tunes played also dance floor could have done with being a bigger.  Never mind enjoyed the weekend and let me know where your doing the river dance next - all the best Fred Astaire !

Hi had a great weekend but am I the only person who misses the commercial soul room? It used to be packed and took some of the pressure off the northern room. It also offered an alternative for all us old soulies who dont like all the modern stuff and freed up some space on the overcrowded dance floor and seating in the northern room
