Well i for one am glad i made what for me was a short journey down the road to lowton, bob hinsleys opening spot in the main room was worth the entrance fee alone. If you add to that some of the countrys top soul spinners murphy wigan paul cunliffe hinsley hague robbo mr maledy the ginger one etc  in an iconic made for soul venue ,you would think nowt can fail. But hey ho down the road baggy pant billy and his dj mates with 200 boot collections put a rival nite on,and thats why this scene is on its way out. Some awsome stuff played in 2 rooms last night, had a great time, use it before youm lose it people.

[quote name=".But hey ho down the road baggy pant billy and his dj mates with 200 boot collections put a rival nite on,and thats why this scene is on its way out Sorry but that's a load of bollocks. People can go where they like for an evening out. If they have stopped going to Lowton ( which they have, obviously ). It's because they don't like it there. They prefer to be somewhere else. Now all you have to do is figure out why !

Your attitude says it all mate. Lowton was the place to be right from the first day Kev had it all those years ago, but big names don,t always make for a big night. Look at the amazing times we had at Sheridans with or without the so called names. It's about paying customers getting what they want not what they are told they want but you know that. But hey Me and Yvonne had a cracking night down the road. Regards Hugh.

Saw you both at monaco meant to say hello hope you both well.Got fu-k all to do with attitude big names or anythin, why put it on same night lowton always on same date as we all know.As for sheridans i know i ran it,and we had our fair share of big names. What i wouldnt give for another venue like that.

We have been going to Lowton every month for the past 18 months but didn't go last night. Reason being we love Lowton its a top venue with a fantastic dancefloor but for the last 3 times we have not enjoyed the music that has been played. Even though we all love Northern Soul everyone will have their own personal favs and dislikes ! Last time we were there in June we spent quite a lot of the time sat down waiting for a decent tune to dance to ! .... Last night ...down the road I never sat down all night ! Enough said ! That's me being honest not bitchy or nasty just telling it like it is ! I love Lowton but do not enjoy the music played KTF

Blimey !

First time in a while since I went back to Lowton -  Different venue every Fri ",)

Last night was really down to 3 events,so off to Lowton..I did spend too much time sat down ,it is a great venue and it has been said ...We all have our likes & dislikes .Lastnight ...MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm . Long periods of time with less than 3 people dancing - Good job I went .. I was one of them  - While I appreciate there are many N.Soul tracks I will never hear in my lifetime,It would have been good to hear some tunes I know  -This was a 2 room event - So I did venture across when I wasnt hearing what I like .

Great sound system - For a rock concert - Was sat to near the speakers front - Thankfully able to " Sign"  was too loud and some of the music appeared distorted ! - I was there - Possibly my age - " Turn it down " people trying to sleep

See you all on some dancefloor again soon - Appreciate everyone being  "Honest " with the comments - With the travel/fuel/toll/drinks etc - It can be an expensive hobby !

p.s : Well done Ginger - Danced to almost every record on your set - " Did I just say that !!!

Ninja

O well - Great CD in the car for the journey home

I too missed Lowton but then I rarely go just because its a Friday and work gets in the way.

I think some people must have known all the records at the Casino, or Parr Hall, or Morcambe, or Stafford, or Tony's before they went. Its the only way I can understand the fact that they'll only dance to stuff they know.  Have you always been like that?

Anyway there's no new records being discovered, well very few anyway. If you know less than 50% of the stuff at any Northern venue you must have spent a long time away from the scene.

Thats not a criticism we all have lives outside the scene.

Im sure you're all genuine people but I just don't understand thats all.

astute comments as always ged, so many knowledgeable people who DO get the point. i've posted on our facebook page, felt it necessary to do it there first and foremost, i personally, can't fault any of the playlists in recent months from any of the djs who feel that lowton is worthy of the continuity in music that has cemented it's reputation over almost 2 decades. surely it's not any different now from when it first started?, or have the clientel changed drastically from the throngs that attended throughout the mid 90's and early millenium?. if lowton "stands still", it will catagorize itself as just another oldies venue,...that's not what it was set up to be, why should it have to reluctantly conform?, lowton IS what it is and will rail against tradition, that it's not supported in large numbers is a common factor with a lot of venues and NOT an exception, that's a sign of the times sadly, but we'll not refrain from offering a diverse range of tunes amongst the familiar and despite people having a right to say what they feel in a liberal society, we'll not allow ourselves to be consumed by negativity....that's of no use to anyone trying to provide a choice in the conflict against the mundane.

Andys banned off the site for answering ninjas ridiculos post regardeing shorts but from what weve been told you and mr garside would know all about that. But the answer is no you clashed with them., As for happy clapper shacky patton from the university of ns as he likes to tag hiself and the other chappy from the same camp, the blind leading the blind.

Not really my argument this but it was obvious that he was banned for the vitriolic and offensive comments he made ref. Ninjas quite reasonable account of his disappointing evening at Lowton. The post was removed quite quickly and

correctly. And before you ask- no i dont know Ninja.

The blind do seem to be doing ok at the moment dont they ?

Vitriolic and offensive comments ,so ninja gets to tell people that they should keep in line with his uniformed version of appropriate clothing for visiting a soul venue.Anbody who responds is out of line, not sure how you measure how well the blind are doing. Its my guess most wont still be around in 18 months but lets wait and see.

MMMMMM wouldn't know what you're talking about there, as I said I totally agree with what Andy said as for us clashing with you I find it Laughable that a venue which has had a handful of do's could possibly believe we clashed with them, there has been a night or an All-dayer at Orrell on that date for over 10 years.

10 yrs, well maybe but not by you.Like it or not stubbshaw is in ashton run by a man from ashton and it was advertised all year.I think you know very well what im talking about, but its no matter now people go were they want just wanted to answer a few points am sure andy will be more than happy to disscuss any of this out and about.

Good thread this- under Lowton but about Stubshaw- with tangents running off to Orrell and a branch line to Horwich.
People from anywhere but a 5 mile radius of Wigan must think we're insane. Next please.
