Anyone wanting a small preview of some of the records that Richard may play at Kelham should listen to tonight's Dean Anderson's show 7-9pm on tulip radio as Richard is the guest in the studio tonight...

Looking forward to tuning in Richard .....

I’ve been asked if we are planning on playing modern soul on Friday, I was a bit taken aback by this question! so It sounds like we need to let it be known the music policy at Soul in the Dome will be predominantly 60’s Detroit that dose not mean other USA City’s 60’s soul will not be played, also along side this will be a smattering of 70’s & R&B, & all the tracks will be aimed at keeping the dance floor happy with quality up-tempo with a few mid-tempo track to get your breath back!! Hope this clears any doubt.

This has all the makings of an excellent night, however, as i'm away early Saturday morning for a weekend in York,

I think it best I have an early night.

I know what i'm like when I get on the beer,LOL

Good luck for the night and hope to be there at the next one, at this fabulous venue.

Due to technical difficulties last week it didn't happen but Tonight 7-9pm tulip radio Dean Andersons radio show has Richard Johnstone as the studio guest ..

He'll be playing a small sample of his amazing Detroit collection.

It has a twist tho as tonight he's not going to play anything with a value of more than £30..

Sure a few of these will be on his playlist for Friday at Kelham..

Enjoy!!

Great venue the usual oldies v underplayed crossover dilema,it worked ok a few oldies and then some more oldies that the oldies brigade didnt want to dance to.......confused yes......sound system needs tweaking a massive floor and ceiling area. The venue as a massive potential.... downside beer prices £4.00 apint to expensive for a night never mind a weekender.

What a superb venue.!! As my buddy Rarestags said, the sound system was left wanting.(reverbing around the room?)

But with such a massive space, and the huge domed room,it was going to test the most ardent sound engineer. Some of the more xover type tunes suffered.

On a positive note, some nice suprises played. Not heard Joe L out for ages.Gambrells,Danny Woods etc...got us on the floor

All in all,a good night though.

First of all a big thanks to all that attended last night we really were surprised at the numbers through the door we hope you enjoyed the first night at Soul at the Dome, Big thanks to Gez, Richard, Dean & John for the DJ spots we feel very lucky to be supported by you guys, one more thankyou needs to go out to Doug Hall for supplying the sound system.

When we first booked this room for the soul night it was our intention to make this a predominately 60's night, I don't think it let many down on that score, I was approached by a few people about the tunes being played some wanting more traditional northern some wanting more underplayed! I must admit with Malc Burton having to cancel at the very last moment due to reasons beyond Malcs control it did upset the balance of what the DJ's were booked to play, (lesson learned by me! If you have people like Kev Such attending your venue ask them if they mind bringing a play box just in case!!) that's not using it as an excuse but to be fair to Gez, Richard, Dean & John all more than capable of playing a more oldies set if asked just did not have the records with them to cover the expected Torch & Wheel tunes Malc was booked for.

Now I must apologise about the beer price of £4.00 a pint! I was told that on the night a pint would be £3.50, when we first got to the venue buying the first round as the bar opened I did challenge the bar man to amend the price as promised, he approached management and I was told it was to late to Change the till price as its linked to the computer system and can only be changed from that point wich takes some time to input the data.this will be sorted before the weekender.

The sound system sounded superb Thursday night and an hour before opening for the night, the problem with reverberation it only happens if you try to push up the volume, standing on the stage it sounds very low when in realty it's loud on the dance floor so the temptation to push up the volume by the DJ's is not surprising, this is something else that will be sorted for the weekender.

Last night was a learning curve for us re this venue, we are listening to complaints along with the congratulations and taking each on board believe me.

Well Me and Mrs Patto came down from Donny and were blown away by the venue even though a series of blocked roads and diversions added a bit of confusion getting to it.The Sound system as already stated wasn't up to the mark. The dance floor was big and looked great but it needed a bit of talc(Thanks to Alan for the slippy stuff cheers mate worked a treat). The Music policy Delivered some great underplayed stuff which i enjoyed, and i loved dancing to Big Hitters Like Joe Matthews--Ain't Nothing You Can Do,Masqueraders--How,and the incredible Mellow Souls. However i think a few more well known Anthems would have filled the floor and lifted the atmosphere a tad. The balance of underplayed and regular stuff was upset by Malc Burton's withdrawl but thats not the promoters fault. On the whole we enjoyed it but it could have been much better, but i would come back as the venue has real potential
