I've been to 3 out of the 4 held so far and must say it's not for those who only want to hear the same old, same old top 500 plays. The policy set by the organisers and so loved by the already great bunch of regulars is non-mainstream, rare, underplayed oldies which I attempted to adhere to when I was honoured to be invited to DJ there on 30/06/2013. Whether I succeeded or not you can judge for yourselves by looking at my playlist below. Not listed in order of play.

Gloria Jones - I Ain't Going Nowhere - UK EMI.

J. J. Jackson - Ain't Too Proud To Beg (Inst) - UK Warner Bros.

Lou Johnson - If I Never Get To Love You - US Big Top Demo.

The Impressions - You Ought To Be In Heaven - US ABC.

Paul Kelly - Since I Found You - US Dial.

Jimmy Hughes - Lovely Ladies - US Fame.

Marke Jackson - I'll Never Forget You - US Jaime Demo.

Al Wilson - Now I Know What Love Is - UK Liberty.

Marvin Smith - Have More Time - UK Coral.

Earl Harrison - Humphrey Stomp - UK London American.

Charlie Rich - Love Is After Me - UK London American.

Jimmy James & The Vagabonds - This Heart Of Mine - UK Piccadilly.

The Chants - I Get The Sweetest Feeling - UK RCA Victor.

Robert Banks - A Mighty Good Way - US MGM.

The Gospel Classics - We've Got To Join Hands - US Checker LP.

James Carr - Coming Back To Me Baby - UK Stateside Demo.

Al Greene & The Soul Mates - Don't Leave Me - UK Stateside Demo.

Betty Everett - Unlucky Girl - US Uni.

Jackie And Millie - Ooh Ooh - UK Island.

Johnnie Jackson & The Blazers - What You Gonna Do - US J-Mer.

The Persians - I Can't Take It Anymore - US GWP's Grapevine Demo.

Bobby Bland - Good Time Charlie - UK Vocalion.

Freddie Chavez - They'll Never Know Why - US Look.

Denise Lasalle - The Right Track - US Peace.

The Platters - Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil - UK Stateside.

The O'Jays - Miracles - US Apollo.

The Imperials - Go And Get Your Heart Broken - US Newtime Demo.

Looking forward to spining a few tunes on 28th July, long way from Poole, but sure it will be well worth the trip to Sheffield.

Mojo Rising is where your guaranteed to hear tunes that you hav'nt heard for years but are longing to hear played out,, that's what set's it apart from the mainstream, it's not just the music that does that tho it's the people that you share it with that are just some of the nicest people around on the scene and they make everyone welcome and part of it,, it's the venue itself, it's just got that feel to it when you walk in that say's "yeah i feel at home here" we like to have dj's playing that don't get to play out much but have amazing record collections and we have the pleasure of hearing them and dancing to them,, along with them we always have a couple of top drawer dj's to complement that so the result is we get a full day of amazing underplayed non mainstream soul classics and the really rare ones are brought out of their soul vaults of their collections for our pleasure,, and last but not least Penelopes is run by the most friendly, helpful and accommodating staff (who i reckon enjoy it as much as we do actually lol) ,, it's all of this combined that makes Mojo Rising the perfect Sunday session to just relax, dance, laugh and socialise and bump into people that you have'nt seen for years with brilliant soul music all day and go home feeling that you've had a top day like all us Mojo moochers and mama's do after everyone which i'm sure our regulars will vouch for,, they've been back every month up to now and the reason is because they simply love it there because of it's party atmophere ... so thankyou to all that support us and we look forward to seeing some new soul faces there in the future x DSB
