Quick update!

As I am sure there is going to be plenty of 'Soul in the Bowl-ite's' and even a few 'Den- ites' in on the night, Lenny Dopson will be doing a 'cameo' Dj spot, just to make them feel at home, quite what He is going to play I am not sure as He knows nothing about Wigan or got any proper Northern Soul records :P ....However I hear a rumour that Nick 'Topsy' Turvey will be 'double decking' with Him, so He can use His records and blag His way through it...with Nick's knowledge

It will be much fun !

Don't you worry yourself my Boy! - I shall be playing a 'Twinkle Little Star' stomping set - Only playing those tunes that were made for venues such as the huge Pemberton Centre!

.....and yes, it will be myself and my 'side kick' Nick 'Topsy' Turvey, Double Decking! As you say - It certainly will be 'much fun'! :D

All the best,

Len

yes it true i will be dropping in to give len a lift in the form of a crate so you can see him and try and show him what a northern soul record looks like and sounds like 40 odd years ago and its all ways a great time with the soul in the bowl lads on an outing and i mite have some record imitations but beware of soul club imitations

Less than a fortnight away now and looming fast, like Topsy racing to his first pint of an evening...Been a couple of years since I've set foot in the Pembo, since Soul Sam lit the room up in his own unique way at the end of 2011.

...Here he is on that night showing Jem how to use all the different twiddly things on the mixer :D

Here's to Soul Sam. :)

Gotta say that half a dozen hours of Classic Northern in that big room will be much needed antidote to all the Christmas music that's inescapable in my house at the moment.  :D

I might even have a drink for a change, so apologies now if I bump into anyone when trying to spin round a bit later on.

Hi Guyz,

I've been quiet on this thread - Blo*dy work is getting in the way of Soul-source! :glare:

Anyway, today I was thinking of us all at The Pemberton Centre once again, and am really looking forward to it - we had some great nights there didn't we?

Nick, I will be ringing you to see if any of my records are good enough for the occasion nearer the time :D

All the best,

Len

Hi All

Some important updates for you!

Firstly, as I am sure many of you are aware Brian Rae was recentley taken ill and admitted to hospital. He has been temporarily discharged under strict instructions to take it  very easy, and being readmitted next week. Not the nicest of places to be over Christmas, so we wish you all the very best and speedy recovery. Understandably Brian will not be able to make The Pembo . He has asked me to pass on his apologies and promises to be back down next year.

After some frantic phone calls into the night, involving myself Len and Dj's We are happy to say that "none other" than Dave Evison is covering. Would just like to say, many many thanks Dave for dropping everything at such short notice. We are truly humbled Sir.  :hatsoff2:

Lastly, as Len said earlier we now have well over 200 hundred reserved for the event. The venue managers are very strict on max permitted numbers. So with this in mind there are only another 50 reserves left, which we will keep on offer untill Friday 20th December 8pm latest. So if you are planning on coming contact me asap on 07905 028003. Once the 50 have gone we can not guarantee entry. Also if you have reserved and cant make it please could you let me know asap.

All the best Happy Christmas Jem

Yes it was a bit frantic last night wasn't it Jem? :D Dave Evison is also booked up Friday and Monday at other corners of the country, so it really is appreciated that he has found the time to step in for this occasion - Thanks again Dave.

So folkz - We're 'back on track' for a fantastic evening celebrating Wigan Casino.....and the 'Spirit of'......because I'll also be spinning a few.......if Topsy lets me

All the best of course to Brian Rae, who I know is disappointed at not being able to make it - Get well soon mate

Don't forget to book your place - This really isn't to be missed!

See ya there,

Len

What I would like to see is someone imitating Nick "Topsey" Turvey.

Can he be "booted ?"

Now That's What I Call..............A Fab Night Out 2013.

Lads you did it again :) The 4 Amigos tootled over for a festive sherry and shimmy and we got it with bells on. Lovely atmosphere, great venue and as usual the friendliest bunch ever.

Good to see lots of the usual gang, Pat H, Jan and MK Tony, the other 3 amigos and of course all of those who i failed to recognise courtesy of the drinks supplied by Tom Beckett who had a rewarding sales box :) :) Pien & Keith what a lovely surprise! XXX

Much dancing, nice private dance area for the 'special' people and loving Len's gangsta suit stylee...... :)

Music was superb; old, new and something for everyone; spotted one or two who never left the floor all night.

Dance competition...........who? what? where? when?  We all missed it but only to be expected with Laurel & Hardy on the decks at the time.......someone post the photos please.......... it was as if Parrot Face Davies and the Fat Controller had been airlifted in to Pembo.....truly t'was madness........

OK off to find some strong medication....I have been scarred by this experience........

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO THE NOT RIGHT NORTHANTS CREW xxxxxXXXXXXXXxxxxxxxx

What a lovely evening....(As Mel mentioned above) it was great to see everyone dancing to the Classics along with some of the tunes from later on in ‘The Northern Soul Story’.  Each compliments the other, and we should be proud that we have at least managed to close ‘The Great Divide’ a bit…..Last night I had one request for ‘Sliced Tomatoes’, and another for ‘Jeanie Tracy — Making New Friends’…and I recon that’s great!….Hey - if we carry on with this positive attitude, we may end up back where we were in the 90’s — Good soul music, one room!

Sorry the Dance Competition was a bit of a ‘cufuffel’ (Yup, also covered by Mel....ahem..) We didn’t want to completely stop proceeding’s for it, instead choosing to ‘splice’ it in - I think we ‘Spliced’ it in too well though  :excl: Winners were picked, and prizes given out accordingly….Actually, we could do with some feed-back ref Dance Competitions; we don’t mind doing another one at the next Soul in the Bowl, but we need to know if you would prefer us to stop proceedings for it (like in the ‘olden days’) :D

Have a great Christmas folks — See you at ‘Soul in the Bowl’ on Jan 11th:wink:

All the best,

Len

:hatsoff2: (You had to be there....)

Ed Brudenal - It was lovely to see you again mate (you are a true ‘Face’) I was touched ref our conversation - Your facial expression along with “I didn’t like it”, pales anything you may have read into total insignificance (whatever it was)…..’nuff said  …..

I dread to think what was stored underneath the hats...( I did see Dopsy take out a club sarnie at 9.00pm).faster than a mobility scooter, more powerful than silic bang topsy an Dopsy. excellent nites you guys put on a real good vibe at all of em. have to say Gem and the crew.Kimbo x

Well that was rather good, thanks! Just about recovered and have uploaded a few photos for anyone interested. Link below (first two are from the last event there at the end of 2011). I don't usually take any but it was a "one off" night there. :)

Complete unexpected bonus for me to get to meet Dave Evison and to give him a lift from and back to a nearby town during the night.... a chance to hear just a couple of his great stories from way back and learn a bit more about some of the amazing records that he and his mates were largely responsible for introducing to the Casino Club through the 70's. Many that we maybe now just take for granted but might not otherwise really know.

Dave really wasn't feeling great on the night but he didn't want to let anyone down and it certainly didn't show when DJing. Hope he manages to relax a bit and recover over Christmas. He also told me that he gets exactly the same "buzz" now from DJing as he did back then.

Hope you enjoy the photos, have a great Christmas all and see you at Soul in the Bowl on 11th Jan....for another great year of soul.

Cheers, Steve. :hatsoff2:

Yes Fab Night! thanks to all that came and all that have supported what we have done during 2013. We've had some testing times behind the scenes this year, so the Pemberton was a lovely way to round the year off.I would particularly like to say thanks to Len and Steve. S. (Team S.I.T.B.) who have worked tirelessly at everything We have done this year (and any one else that knows me)  :)

Some have bemoaned all the Wigan 40th Ann. Nights this year, but we sincerely, really did try and do it justice,  Dave Evison topped it for me, not least being a fellow Stoke City F.C. fan !  Thank you Dave for being the unexpected icing on the cake at such a late stage.

I only went to Wigan twice 79/80, many may say that the best years for the Casino had by then gone, but I do respect all the positive things it gave to the scene and have to say was quite an emotional thing to play the 3 before 8 at the end

Thank you Wigan Casino
