Arrived Friday night to get a feel, seeing as it's been so long!

The Castle itself, as usual, was in immaculate condition and a great venue for a weekend soul event. Everything about this place is first class, from toilets to bar service (jugs of water on the bar was a nice touch) by 10pm the place was buzzing whichever room you were in, roll on Saturday.

Arrived around 12.30 and straight to the main hall, seemed slow to get going and the atmosphere seemed quite muted. For some reason the dance floor was like a sheet of glass! However, still a great surface.

To be honest I thought the music never really got going and the consistency from the early DJ's was up and down. As usual later in the day the venue started to fill and the big names played their stuff giving a totally different atmosphere.

Haven't really anything to say negative about these 2 days, apart from the usual local drinkers who have to congregate on the dance floor edge (this annoyance is everywhere and you should stick to the pubs!) this usually happens from 9 pm onwards. Also, the art of being a DJ is to play for the crowd and get them dancing; rather than play tunes they can dance to themselves! (This happened during the early afternoon.)

Overall immaculately organised and run throughout. 8.5/10

Yes, dancing to Mid-tempo, I think some were even enjoying themselves - I can only apologise! :D

On a serious note though - As Ted pointed out, I'm not involved in the D.J times. But coincidently, Kev Bourne did have a word with me about maybe getting involved with something next year, and we will be having a further chat about that sometime soon (I would like to somehow get that Studio Room busy a lot earlier) - Like anyone can, I shall throw any ideas I may have at Kev and Gloria, then it's obviously up to them which they think will be beneficial to the event.

Even though numbers wise this event is an absolute success, Kev is constantly watching / noting things, and generally being aware of different peoples needs whilst taking note of any suggestions - I think this is important to point out.

All the best,

Len

I was Ted - I'm always there from the very start (It wouldn't be cricket if I wasn't, living so close to the place)

I have a few ideas rattling around, but not really sure how to motivate more people to get to All-dayers earlier - In saying this, there was plenty in the Main Room, and lots of people outside socialising which is fine, that's the way All-dayers are.

Len

Just got back from a superb weekender, well done Kev & Gloria and Staff at the Castle. Just my own feeling,  maybe too many rooms on the Sunday! I like the idea of across the board Soul music in the Main room and possible rare sounds in the bar area, Kev will do his homework and sums I'm sure to get the best  formula needed.

But with it being the first of what I think many weekenders! Keep up the good work.

Ps, I heard some fantastic tunes and met some really friendly folk" THANKYOU  Rod Clegg

Had an excellent time. Well done all. My suggestion for next year Kev. Get one of those temporary dance floors in the upstairs modern room. would have stayed and danced longer but oooh that carpet was like dancing on Velcro. atb Kimbo

The additional Sunday idea has potential, and I'm sure Kev will put some thought into how best to play it (Many that didn't do the Sunday this year have said they will next year) Maybe The Main Room only on the Sunday, to include some Modern and some under played next to the Classics could be the way to go whilst this side of the weekender steadily grows.

All the best,

Len

Welly has always been at the TOP mate  This huge event is something else though, and I hope Kev and Gloria keep things up, maybe making subtle changes here and there to keep the momentum going - Not an easy task, as there is so much to take into consideration.

All the best,

Len

Yes, maybe Kev and Gloria will make a some minor changes (as they see fit) This huge event needs us all to keep supporting it for it to carry on working for them (and us) I'm sure they will carry on 'tweaking' as the years roll by

See ya'll next year.

belated comments from me................. [ previous postings made on what is now a deceased-computer, so I've been  ' enjoying ' myself this week mooching about pc world talking to the 14 year old experts there and trying to understand a word of it....... ]

anyway, loved the weekender and the company, heard lots of great music and had lots of record related discussions, learnt a lot and drank too much.

Biggest thanks to Kev and Gloria for getting this up and running and maintaining the standard - great job !
