The Ad-Lib Club "Back to the Roots" Details

The Ad-Lib Club strive to bring you the "Back to the Roots" sounds from the 50s and early 60s adopted by the mod,r&b,soul elite that helped give birth to the ORIGINAL underground allnighter scene. We try to be as authentic as possible and true to the "roots" of the scene.STYLE-CULTURE-HISTORY-that's what the club is all about. Our venue is a stone-walled cellar bar beneath Lord Beaumonts 1823 Manor House. 2 minutes from Lincolns city centre but down a quite tree-lined street with a council run carpark to the rear (small evening charge). A warren of rooms with chill-out decks in the lounge bar and full on decks in the main room. There is also an upstairs lounge bar open on our nights to ease any congestion in the cellar-bar.Rare and underplayed R&B,Early Soul,Doowop,Hammond Grooves,Jamaican R&B,Jamaican Ska.Cut off period 1966.These are the sounds you are likely to hear banging off those old stone walls.A proper club in the true sense of the word.Rare video footage projected onto the cellar-bar walls.Top resident djs in Martin Greene,Trevor Quincey,Allan Swires and Christian Scott.Andrew and Eileen Vasey sharing their vast knowledge of the original scenes music.Ben Sutton (Select Sounds)djs and runs the record bar.Invited to share their" take" with us of the early scene this time are Ciro and Nick Porter (The Olde Spa R&B Club,Derby)..Entry by pre-bought ticket.£4 each.Doors open 6.30 with the first djs on at 7.00 then through until 12.15am.Demand for tickets always exceeds supply and go very quickly.Every event is sold out with many people travelling from all over the country to revel in the EXPERIENCE that is the Ad-Lib Club.Join the "in-crowd",get "suited and booted",smart casual and join us in a little club that is getting a big reputation.Tickets via 07989 717 043 or email adlibsoul@yahoo.co.uk or join our Ad-Lib Facebook Group page.https://www.facebook...90264310986981/event-3548-0-36819400-1375889203_thumb.pevent-3548-0-47826300-1375889232.pngevent-3548-0-83686700-1375889396_thumb.jevent-3548-0-19736200-1375889703_thumb.jevent-3548-0-81081300-1375889824_thumb.jevent-3548-0-13124100-1375889869_thumb.j

CIROS PROFILE

HI ALL MY NAME IS CIRO, AND I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING AND DJING SINCE I STARTED GOING TO THE MOD RALLIES IN THE VERY EARLY 80`S, WHICH THE MUSIC HAS INFLUENCED ME FOR THE LOVE OF NORTHERN, 60`S SOUL AND PLENTY OF R&B. (NOT FORGETTING THE LOVE OF MY LAMBRETTA)

I HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE IN DJING WITH SOME OF THE UK`S BEST DJ`S AT SOUL/MOD NIGHTS, ALL-DAYERS, AND ALL-NIGHTERS.

IN 1990, MY PARTNER AND I SUCCESSFULLY RAN “THE KETTERING SOUL CLUB AT THE LEGENDARY “NORTH PARK CLUB FOR LAST SEVEN YEARS UNTIL THE DOORS WERE FINALLY CLOSED IN 1997, THEN A FURTHER TWO YEARS AT “THE WORKING MEN`S CLUB (BOTH IN KETTERING) TO WHICH BOTH CLUBS WERE CLOSED AND THEN SOLD FOR DEVELOPMENT.

MY LOVE FOR THE MUSIC IS STILL VERY STRONG TO THIS DAY, AND I ENJOY TRAVELLING UP & DOWN THE COUNTRY, CHECKING OUT NEW DO`S & LISTENING TO NEW FRESH SOUNDS, AND ALSO MEETING NEW PEOPLE WHO SHARE THE SAME PASSION!

Nik Porter profile - The Old Spa,Derby.

First of all i'm just a collector and not a DJ ! This great music snared me when i was about 14 like most people who grew up in the 60's it was the whole package Mods, scooters style and of course music that was the attraction.I got took to the Leicester Nite Owl when i was 14 or so and just got hooked.Other places were the Il Rondo and numerous back rooms in pubs and even our youth club where a certain Micky Bang Bang introduced us to underground soul (no such thing as "northern soul" in those days)By the time i started work the Mod scene was dying out and it was about !970 when a crowd of us went to the Wheel and the music seemed to be more uptempo and "different".The days of soul, ska,RnB,beat, blues and white RnB all on the same playlist seemed to be over. Record prices and a young family to keep meant my record collection went along with being part of this new scene apart from the odd trip to the Engine at coalville. My music interest then turned to blues.

During the late 80's Sharon and I started getting back into the music albeit just local events, but we started getting disalusioned as they seemed to be Wigan revival nights.Much later we began to hear records that reflected the original scene (although i never heard them in the 60's ?)Trips to The Hideaway and especially Colsterworth got us hooked again.

I've DJ'd at Notts alnighter,Loughborough alnighter,Quorn Soul Club,Skegness Weekender and of course the Spa.Thankfully there are a number of venues true to what this underground scene was about;Adlib,Rhythm Shack,Dearne Playhouse,King Bee etc.

My playlist at the Spa has included Blues,Brit RnB,Beat,Popcorn etc hopefully i can please someone ?

Regards nik

Tickets for the 30th Nov Ad-Lib will be on sale otd at the October 5th night.Another terrific set of djs willing to share their vinyl collections with the appreciative following that makes the Ad-Lib Club such an enjoyable EXPERIENCE !Slightly different format in the chill-out lounge for the start of the party season.Ben Sutton will kick the night off and then it's double-decking the rest of the night. What about this for a line-up of great r&b djs.Martin Greene and Trevor Quincey.Followed by Joe Lakin (Horse and Groom,Doncaster) and,Mick Casey{the Dearne Playhouse),then Allan Swires and Ed Horwood (Melting Pot,Scarborough) and finally Christian Scott with Neil Firth (Bawtry).Add Andrew Vasey , Ian "Howie" Houghton(Scunthorpe)and Scott Coombes to the mix in the main room and we hope you'll agree this will be another night of great "Back to the Roots"rare and underplayed 50s/60s not to be missed. In fact tickets are already selling for this night.Tickets available 07989717043 or adlibsoul@yahoo.co.uk thanks the Ad-Lib Crew.

Seem to have been waiting a long time for this Ad-Lib night. As the regular support knows you won't want to miss a track so you really need to get to the venue asap.First djs on in both rooms at 7.00pm with the doors opening at 6.30pm.Another packer of a night that will just fly by so enjoy every minute. If it's ATMOSPHERE you want you'll get it.If it's STYLE-CULTURE-HISTORY you're looking for you'll find it.If it's true authentic clubland you're after you've got it.If it's music that influenced and grew into the ORIGINAL allnighter scene you'll hear it."Back to the Roots" is where we're at.See you all on Saturday. The Ad-Lib Crew.
