oh boy am I looking forward to this one with the fantastic Mick H, and Johnny Greenwood, joining our regular DJ`S, Kev Greenwood, Neil Brooks and the inimitable Nev Shooter.

Interest in this night is off the wall and quite rightly so with such a cracking line up so don`t delay get your tickets and your coat and get on down to the former gedling miners welfare on Mapperley Top, you won`t regret it KTF

Lindz ,his lovely wife Jean and myself will be looking forward to greeting you on the door cheers John

Will be lovely to see you there, Maggie! Me and Kev had a good chat with Kerr at Skeggy so it'll be great to catch-up with him again.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Johnny Greenwood is unable to perform tonight; however, up-and-coming local legend, Tony Dalton, has stepped in at the last moment to complete our line-up of global superstars - the faith will be kept!

Thanks to everyone who attended last night - it was one of our busiest ever! Plenty of new faces and old friends, including a couple of our old school mates, Pat Davis and Ken Poundall; Kev was happy to see some of his mates from back in the day as well but was regretting it this morning, the scamp! One of the ideas behind setting up the Coalition was to try and reunite old Soulies and chums from back in the day and I think we succeeded last night.

Thanks again to the 'full on' Soulies who came from across the East Midlands and beyond - your loyalty and support was much appreciated in light of the increased competition, 'specially the guy who tuned up in his camper van (don't think he was with Scary Mary!)

Probably one of the best nights for music as well with blinding sets from our resident dj's, Nev, Kev and Neil, and probably one of the best sets I've ever heard from local lad, Mick H. A special mention must be made of Tony Dalton who stepped in at the last moment and played an excellent set - the Coalition never forgets whose its friends are!

A special thanks to John and my adorable wife, Jean, for meeting and greeting everyone, and we hope to see everyone at the Blackhearts in a couple of weeks time.

KTF,

Linds.

From Ibstock last week ventured to Nottingham to the NG4 Soul Club Mapperley.

Great welcome on the door and into a really large venue with newly laid dance floor, albeit laminated not wooden.

Ordered a pint and half of Carling £4.80 ! Not really welfare prices but the queuing system is a good idea.

The venue gets under way at 7.30pm but noticed dancing was slow until just before 9pm, which was surprising because the music played was on the ball from the minute I walked in.

A few sound issues during the early evening but on the whole the music was consistent but went up a notch with the guest DJ which is how it should be.

The floor was packed from 9 till close.

A big local following is evident and I would estimate 250 at this venue, proving that Nottingham is one of the country’s top areas.

The only issue is a quarter stand on the dance floor with their drinks which restricted the viewing for some seated and at times gave this more than a social feeling than a soul night, especially the 2 guys who were still in their work clothes

Parts of the floor did suffer from spillage and the toilets here could do with monitoring.

Overall the evening was good  the issue I found is it a soul  night or a social night?

7/10

Apologies for my crap punctuation, Pete and Susan! It was Ken Poundall who I used to go to school with and was at the gig last night - he might have lived in Canada for a while but only if he had been forcibly deported! Was it Kerr who lived in Canada? The Kev in question is none other that the marvellous Kev Greenwood who took advantage of his old friends buying him lots of drinks and possibly had a little bit too much - I'm sure Julie made him well aware of this the next morning!

Great to see both of you there - Northern Soul clubs of the world unite!

It was our first visit to NG4 too, & really enjoyed the night, banging oldies all night with not too much 70's which make me yawn alot. will be back in January all being well.   Fantastic support for a Friday night in November.
