SOUL IS BACK AT THE NAG'S HEAD WOLLASTON NORTHANTS Details

SOUL & MOTOWN, IS BACK AT THE NAG'S!

Many will remember this iconic venue from back in the mid to late 60s it was one of the venues that laid the bedrock for the later Northern Soul Scene, attracting locals and travellers alike, one of its regular patrons was legendry radio dj John Peel. The regular Soul & Motown Sunday Nights were run by local character (the late) Big Bob Knight.

We have been invited by the new owners of the Nag's Head to rekindle the Soulnights, this is the first of hopefully regular ones to follow. I am joined behind the decks by regular attendees of the original nights Malc (Gibby) Gibbons and Chris Price

Music will be: Classic Club Soul, Motown, and Northern Soul Classics

Please note: THIS IS A LIMITED TICKET ONLY EVENT RUN BY THE OWNERS, TICKETS ARE £5 EACH, TO RESERVE CALL THEM ON 01933 663939

This is interesting. As some of you know, The Nags Head at Wollaston was part of the very early Scene, which incidentally gets a mention in the late John Peels Book. I used to live in Wollaston, and was a regular there as a teen in the 80's, many, many years later  ......'Big Bob' actually barred me one night, which is something I'll never forget :excl:

'The Wollaston Rhythm and Soul Club' that I ran back then was at The Working Men's Club just across the road, and for nostalgia purposes I booked The Nags Head for a Soul Night. Sadly it had to be cancelled for various reasons, so I will look forward to attending this night at one of the scene's earliest venues.

Nice one.

All the best,

Len

Just like to pass on thanks from the staff at the Nag's!

Was  fantastic last night, great to see that after all these years the place hasn't changed that much and still has the vital X factor it was rammed to the rafters full of hot and sweaty people. Apologies to those who didn't manage to get a ticket, as stated it was genuinely limited numbers, don't think the venue owners realised how popular it was going be, it sold out over a week before the event....even an offer of £50 on the door by someone couldn't get them in (honest)

The next one is Feb next year , will keep all posted on finalised date. In the meantime the contact number for tickets is 01933 663939, worth noting in plenty of time if your planning on going. Thanks to fellow Djs Gibby and Chris Price....It was a blast guys !

Yes it was truly a special night, and an honour to be there witnessing some of the 'originals' that were there all those years ago. I had a brief chat with one guy, he said (and I quote) "I was here every weekend 45 years ago, off me head'! - loved it" .....These guys were doing it before Wigan Casino, and yes, before The Wheel - The true roots of Northern Soul.

Roll on the next one.

All the best,

Len
