Tonight is going to be a very busy and special night at Burton Town Hall. Loads of interest and there seems to be an extra buzz about tonight which isn't surprising when you look at the quality of the DJ's appearing.

DJ times are:

8pm - 10pm Mark and Kev top tunes right from the off

10pm - 11pm Mick Moylan Local lad with some floor filling tunes

11pm -12pm Jellybean The West Midlands favourite girl DJ with great taste

12pm - 1am John Poole Mr Prestatyn and one of the top DJ's in the country

1am - 2am Mark and Kev Lots of big and classic tunes to end the night

Great line up and hope to see lot's of you later. No tickets, it's £5 admission to our friendly girls on the door which open at 8pm.

Top night is was ,music was bang on the nail, Great d j's organizers can't fault them, some really good dancers, The room is awesome as we all know. Now the bad bits, Bouncers looked like they were Really unhappy lol, the beer prices scandal , The speaker system , (council controlled) I guess, Just not good enough you could hear people singing The wrong words, next to ya as you danced, In fact it was that low am sure I heard someone fart lol. Anyway can't wait for the next one KTF.

From NG4 soul club last night to Burton Town Hall.

£5 on the door for 6 hours is great value for such a fantastic venue. The meet and greet as always gives the same warm feeling, then walking in through the doors into such a majestic room is quite a moment!

The music hit the money from the start, and the floor was pretty full from 9pm onwards.

Big crowd as always, from all over.

Now, where do I start?

This place must have the dearest bar prices of any venue I have been too, on a regular basis people buy their drinks and casually meander through the middle of the floor to their seats while the music is playing and people dancing. Why??

The sound system was terrible which was a shame because the music played was excellent, the wooden floor is in major need of maintenance and in parts simply not good enough to dance on and my last comment is to the DJ, who ,when your introducing the next person have the etiquette to know their name!

Overall 6/10

When the management told me that they were introducing a sound system that we were going to have to feed through I was dreading how this night might turn out. After years of building this venue up into one of the best nights around where people travelled long distances due to our own superb sound system and the Town Hall atmosphere the potential for disaster was scarey.

Despite the sound being too low and it cutting out several times due to them setting it too low, myself and Kev are confident that after speaking to the Town Hall Management we can sort it out in time for the next night in January. The council staff that were on duty on the night agreed that it had been set too low but did not have the know how to change the system.

Burton Town Hall has a reputation for putting on proper Northern Soul nights. It's a great atmospheric venue and we get loads of people commenting on what a superb dance floor it has. We always feature quality DJ's and has as already been said we give 6 hours of great value for £5. Despite the problems on this ONE night the majority of people stayed all night and showed understanding of the situation.

SoulinBurton would like to thank everyone of our guests for their support.

The next night is on Saturday 25th January 2014 with Guest DJ's MICK H and CHRIS DALTON.

Hear hear i couldnt agree more. Can we get the bar to put on some decent beer Pedigree used to be on until the bar was taken over. For me music wise there was a bit too much R&B but that gave me a chance to go out for a ciggi. I think FREDDY enjoyed it ! Love to LIZ x

Burton Town Hall is a great venue for northern soul  ..We could not be there this time due to working , but I will say this, ..  it is a promoters nightmare when there is intervention with what has been a superb sound system for years ... this I am sure will be sorted bt the next one , it will be a "one off" and can happen at any venue..   one "less than perfect"  night is not the end , its just a glitch , thats all ,  Mark is a top promoter and I know he will get it all sorted ,  cant comment on the bar , we drink water  ?  dancefloor has always been fine ? there may be patches ? once again I am sure Mark will be on the case .

Burton is a great northern soul venue .. not perfect .. but none ever are really  :)

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and if something is not right then let the promoters know in order for them to put it right.  The Bar prices.  The amount that people drink I wouldn't begrudge paying 50p more a pint if the night is full of freinds and quality Music. Most of the time the Bar is run by the 'Club' or Council probably in this case and the prices are out of the hands of the Promoters Its not as though we're going out on the piss anyway.

Confidence in the boys to put it right and it is well within your rights to bring up anything you feel is in need of attention.

Don't let it deter you from attending in the future. Missed this one but to be honest I have never had a bad night there, must have been gremlins.

wow soulinvestigator....there are some very unpleasant aspects to the soul scene, being excluded if you don't go to certain venue's, venue's running other venue's down etc..etc..Until you try and run your own venue you have no idea how subtle or overtly acrimonious it can be. In effect the promoter is only a customer to the venue who tries to put on an event for the enjoyment of people with a similar musical liking. Nobody visiting could be 100% satisfied with every aspect of a night. The conditions can be altered beyond the promoters control but the promoter gets the flak.

No two people have the same taste in music, bar prices can vary in competitive pricing from product to product. People should be allowed to make up their own minds of whether they like it or not. They can only do it by visiting. I have visited venue's that say the next one is going to be another 'cracker' and when you were there, there was about 20 people and I'd not heard much of the tracks before and the rest were lifeless.

But there is the possibility of a 'limp' night if the guest dj/dj's were out of touch with the crowd.

As for this  new 'mystery shopper' at least OFSTED identify themselves and so you can judge the judges. Don't know what their motives are, and if they maintain they do not have any connection to any group or venue, they cannot be a soul fan, as soul fans are about socializing as well as the music. I have a horrible feeling this person may be either helping a friends or their own soul night by giving that event a glowing report, accurate or not, or they are putting an event on and want to build up a following before it even starts.

Even those who run big events have a product that is not perfect for everybody, and perhaps should not pass comment on smaller events as they are a niche for the regulars who are happy(ish) with them.

Sorry bout posting this on your event mark, but I am sure Burton will continue to be successful as you have years of regulars so they know what the event is like.
