The Ad-Lib Club strive to bring you the "Back to the Roots" sounds from the 50s and early 60s adopted by the mod,r&b,soul elite that helped give birth to the ORIGINAL underground allnighter scene. We try to be as authentic as possible and true to the "roots" of the scene.STYLE-CULTURE-HISTORY-that's what the club is all about. Our venue is a stone-walled cellar bar beneath Lord Beaumonts 1823 Manor House. 2 minutes from Lincolns city centre but down a quite tree-lined street with a council run carpark to the rear (small evening charge). A warren of rooms with chill-out decks in the lounge bar and full on decks in the main room. There is also an upstairs lounge bar (playing background music of our music policy) open on our nights to ease any congestion in the cellar-bar.Rare and underplayed R&B,Early Soul,Doowop,Hammond Grooves,Jamaican R&B,Jamaican Ska.Cut off period 1966.These are the sounds you are likely to hear banging off those old stone walls.Projected videos onto the bare walls add to the club atmosphere.A proper club in the true sense of the word.Terrific resident djs in Martin Greene,Trevor Quincey,Allan Swires , Christian Scott,Andrew and Eileen Vasey.Ben Sutton (Select Sounds)djs and runs the record bar. Entry by pre-bought ticket.£4 each.Doors open 6.30 with the first djs on at 7.00 then through until 12.15am.Demand for tickets always exceeds supply and go very quickly.Every event is sold out with many people travelling from all over the country to revel in the EXPERIENCE that is the Ad-Lib Club.Join the "in-crowd",get "suited and booted",smart casual and join us in a little club that is getting a big reputation.Tickets via 07989 717 043 or email adlibsoul@yahoo.co.uk or join our Ad-Lib Facebook Group page.https://www.facebook...90264310986981/

Profile of Dj Mick Casey

Mick TP Casey.

I am presently living in Tickhill and work for the NHS. My Irish Parentage (Waterford and Cork) introduced me to raw uncut traditional music at an early age and the same can be said for my love of early Jamaican and Black American tracks from the Southern States.

I started collecting vinyl records in 1968 and loved Reggae and American imports I knew then as club soul. I have frequented almost every venue in the UK, supporting the love of rare soul music, having guest DJ’d around the Northern Soul Scene for 20 years and was resident DJ at the Corner Pocket, Mexborough. I used to buy and sell records and was the first to set up the record bar at the Ad-lib Club, Beaumont Fee, Lincoln. heartandsoulmusic.co.uk was my business email for those of you that benefited from my sales.

I am the proud founder of the 50/60s Back to the Roots, Dearne Playhouse, Goldthorpe, Rotherham, setting up the event to bring R&B to South Yorkshire and the Dearne Valley. I endeavor to provide an eclectic mix of R&B, Popcorn, DooWop, Reggae, Jamaican and Club Soul to celebrate the Rooty and unpolished music that has stood the test of time.

I do my bit for charity and help those most in need in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka, post Tsunami, donating any proceeds I make from DJ’ing to good causes in Sri Lanka.

I would be delighted to guest DJ at any venue but prefer to play raw early tracks we now refer to as R&B. I have many Northern Soul Records which are gathering dust due to my taste in music shifting “Back To My Roots”

Profile of dj/collectors Andrew and Eileen Vasey.

Andrew and Eileen Vasey are vinyl collectors first, and DJs second, although they have been loving the DJ-ing role they have taken on over the last couple of years. Andrew began collecting the 78rpm records of Presley and Holly in the 50s, but his membership of Redcar Jazz Club, with its eclectic mix of visiting artists, focused his interests towards the American and British R&B music championed by the Mod movement of the 60s. Eileen's life as a professional night club dancer in 60s London brought her into contact with many of the famous artists of the era, and she frequented legendary clubs such as the Flamingo, the Bag o' Nails and the American servicemen clubs which showcased the talents of the likes of James Brown and Ike & Tina Turner. Hardly surprising that she has delighted in the opportunity to return to the raw R&B sounds she loves best in the clubs which have sprung up in recent years.

DJ-ing at venues such as the Dearne Playhouse, the Mojo Club in Hull, the Melting Pot in Scarborough, the Roots Room in Derby, and, of course, their home venue, the Ad-Lib Club, has brought Andrew and Eileen a number of benefits. They have met and made friends with many like-minded lovers of music and dancing. They have had their knowledge of various related musical genres, such as jazz, blues, British beat and blue beat, extended. Best of all, they have been inspired to continue to seek out and track down many records, the existence of which they would otherwise have been in total ignorance, with which to whet the interest of the audiences whose entertainment they seek to provide.

Profile by Howie "Howzer" Houghton.Djing at the Ad-Lib Club Nov.30th.

Howie "Howzer" Houghton.Dj on the 30th November Ad-Lib Club,Lincoln.

Hello all you beautiful Ad-Libbers. Hope you are all looking forward to another
night of dirty filthy hot and sweaty R&B served up with sides of Doowop , Ska and Soul
and washed down with copious amounts of your beverage of choice ...
I have traveled this land in search of the ultimate in nights of musical debauchery
and although one or two come close (The King Bee Sheffield , Mojo Hull , Madame Jo jo,s London
The Hideaway Manchester , Melting pot Scarborough) the Ad-Lib still sits high on her pedestal
I am no DJ just a lover of tunes that make you go ooooooooh and give you no choice but to move your toes and clap your hands. In life you are lucky if you find one soul mate. For a few hours on a sat night four times a year you are amongst
200 + like minded souls.Their only aim to dance dance dance.
It is indeed an honour and a privilege to be able to put the needle to the record once again at this iconic venue.
Looking forward to the party very much.
love Howie x

Profile of Ed Horwood.Ed's playing The Ad-Lib Club on November 30th.

I count myself as fortunate to have grown up in a household where music was always being played. As a child of the late 60s my Mother’s record collection (Buddy Holly, Elvis, Everley Brothers, Lonnie Donnegan, The Beatles, Johnny Cash amongst others) formed the musical soundtrack to my early years. It wasn’t until my first teenage year in 1980 that I discovered a musical direction of my own thanks to the sounds of Two Tone and the mod revival. That year too, I got my first Harrington jacket and pair of Sta-prest and my interest

in things ‘mod-related’ took off. By the time my first scooter was delivered on my 16th birthday, and thanks to the older mods at school, my musical tastes had expanded rapidly. My record collection soon included The Action, Creation, Yardbirds, Small Faces, The Who. The joys of soul and r’n’b came care of some classic compilations available at the t...ime (the Tamla ‘20 Mod Classics’ albums Sue ‘Maximum R’n’B compilation, the early Kent lps, etc

Over the years I’ve been heavily involved in the mod/scooter/soul/r’n’b & skinhead scenes during which time, I’ve never ceased to buy records from across a wide range of genres. A move to Scarborough from my native Somerset in 2004 saw me take up Djing and put this collection to work. I became a resident DJ for over 6 years at a local ‘mod’ club and did the odd spot at soul nights in Scarborough. Over the last few years I’ve been lucky enough to land guest spots at The Ad-Lib, Dearne Playhouse, Hull’s Mojo and Chickee Wah Wah Club, and I’ve recently guested at the legendary Mockers Club in Stroud. In January 2013, fellow DJ and collector Doug Lewis and myself launched our own club night in Scarborough – The Melting Pot. As the name suggests, Melting Pot blends a large array of music styles – jump blues, doo-wop, rockabilly, rock’n’roll, r’n’b, surf, 60’s club soul, popcorn, ska, rocksteady, ‘skinhead’ reggae and anything else we choose to add to the mix. Despite our coastal location, we’ve managed to build a following of friendly, open-minded music buffs, helped in no small part by an array of top DJs from the r’n’b/rocking/mod scenes who’ve come through to do guest spots for us. I’m delighted that Glenn has asked me back to do a slot at the Ad-Lib once again and I’m especially pleased to be double decking with Allan

Profile of Scott Coombes who has accepted our invite to dj at the Ad-Lib Club on Nov.30th. Refreshing to hear Scotts "take" on the early scene as in his own words "he's new to these sounds".Scott has played the lounge room once before and left a terrific impression not only with his choice of tracks but also with his enthusiastic animation behind the decks !
Scott, although a total newcomer to the RnB scene, has been attending our nights for the last couple of years and has been bowled over by a totally different era of sounds to which he was accustomed. A long time collector of records, mostly black music oriented, he has never been far away from a pair of turntables. Starting out as a bedroom DJ during the late 80s influenced by underground hip hop artists and producers of the time he soon found himself searching for the records that were being sampled to create the grooves and this quickly led to a passion for 60s & 70s funk, jazz and soul. During the 90s he was involved in organising occasional local events playing "acid jazz", hip hop, funk and blaxploitation soundtracks before becoming a regular within the drum and bass scene. After a long hiatus he has over recent years been regularly pumping the funk at various VW festivals across the country and most recently can be found airing his vinyl excavations at a regular monthly night in Lincoln. Since visiting Ad Lib he has been inspired to look a little further back in time and has been adding a few gems to his collection and is chuffed to have been invited to join in the fun of the night.

Wishing you all a great Christmas and an even better New Year. The Ad-Lib Club would like to thank all the djs from the last year for sharing their vinyl with us.Every night was a full house (just like 2012 year !) which shows the appreciation that the fans of our club have for quality music .What can we say about our support.?It is truly a privilege to play host to such lovely people of all ages, from all backgrounds, from all parts of the country and all styles. An absolutely amazing atmosphere at our club nights generated by such an "up for it crowd". This encourages us to bring to you some of the UK's top djs.Next year is no exception.Look forward to hearing at the Ad-Libs cellar-bar venue(,amongst others),Ted Couldstone,Colin Brown,Mace,Bill Kealy,Kev Kus,Glenn Merrifield. We don't want to be complacent at the club by resting on our laurels. We have some ideas in mind to keep our "Back to the Roots" music policy evolving .We can't say too much about it yet but we are 100% sure it will add to our CULT-STYLE-HISTORY philosophy of representing accurately the golden part of the ORIGINAL scene beloved of mods, soulpeople and r&b fanatics. Thanks for making the Ad-Lib Club what it is.The Ad-Lib Crew.Next years dates and tickets all sorted.April 12th,June 7th,October 11th andNovember 22nd.
