Last one was my first time and it was a really top night, got there late about half two but loved every bit of it while we were there.,we will without any doubt get there a lot earlier this time,we being ,Kimbo,Mark and me self as last time.Only knew about a hand full of the choons that got played as did my mate Mark but both of us were in one hundred percent agreement this was a good thing as there was so much we both liked being played, had more than a few dances(well efforts at dancing)Very impressed with the atmosphere and folk in attendance were all up for a good night. As this os an anniversery I can anticipate it being even better than before hard as that is to envisage, got a real suprise at the high quality last time as before going didnt really know what to expect this time just know its going t be the biz.

Likewise Chalky

Please reserve my usual pitch, looking forward to catching up with young Russell Vickers, for those that don't know him he'll be the one walking around wearing a pith helmet and Khaki shorts, looking a bit like 'Lofty' out of "It Ain't 'alf Hot Mom"

Wow ! this night was immense for me , loved every second of it . If you should go through a storm and feel you have heard it all ..... then go to Lifeline !

God did I pay for it yesterday the whole experience took me out of the picture for the whole of Sunday ...Saturday night had drawn so much from me Physically .

I have not danced that much in years , in fact I danced to 95% of Russ's set , he was on fire , to open a set with the Grey Imprint was a master stroke and to follow it on with such mastery in the selection presented to us , well it was worth all the pain suffered on Sunday. Russ really did show a great variety of tempos which excited my feet all the more.

It was lovely to see many friends too  , big thanks to the promoters for supply such a quality night , absolutely loved it !

Sat nite took me back to those days of quality music lots not heard before, soul music for good times and dancing. It was the bollocks x 10. Great to be in the company of like minded friends fom the dark side and new people I met. Also afterwards at Harpo's  everyone was great Thanks Harpo n Sandy.great to see Kit top guy. Ingrid and Chris proper soul people. Chris stay with ya style you have the eye you know what works (rare in blokes) and thats threads as sharp as a cats whisker and then some. Plus also round Harpo's as  Chris put it "the real Supafly" aka Tonto.

Smoki was missed by me and my buddies as he has some great memories all very funny from his time on the scene.

I was only 3 hrs late getting home this week ha ha. The dog was pleased to see me and in fact the later I get home the more pleased he is. Not so the wife....aka nurse shipman. Work today( Monday) with crab paste sarnies for lunch, they were bloody awful. Asked her tonite those sarnies were bloody awful, but ate them where did you get that  crab paste from............Superdrug she replied.

Please can some one let me know the lads name from Gloucester round Harpo's.

Respect once again to all at Lifeline. Atb Kimbo, Manus and Mark

It was long journey from Spain, but well worth it deserved to, can´t imagine better selection of tunes for an allniter, I´m happy to see Sam in top form, heard for first time Russ , and the rest does a sterlin job, lot of new tunes to refresh the FAITH (no words about Butch set´s, two airports, lot of miles and two hour sleep can not pay it),

Thanks to the lifeline dream team, specially Mick & Chalky for look after us,

I ll be back

It was nice to be in a place full of people that care about this ‘unique’ past time of ours……this being more poignant for me, as on the way I learnt that someone had made an ‘ignominious’ phone call to The Nags Head pub at Wollaston ‘warning’ the management that a D.J (me) had been booked for Sat night….“who will play music your customers won’t like”…..

…….in the meantime I had arranged to go straight to Life-line, rather than having the ‘kafuffle’ of D.Jing at ‘The Nag’ beforehand….even so - what a sad thing to do - it has reminded me what a sorry state some of the Scene is in (not all, I hasten to add)

I digress; please ignore the above rare insight into the dark ‘n’ dangerous world of ‘middle aged men putting on discos’….. :excl:

…Back to The Life-line 10th Anniversary All-nighter - A few people mentioned that they thought there may have been a few more there, considering it was the 10th Anniversary - I personally don’t think you can predict any event nowadays. That said, let’s be absolutely clear to those that didn’t make it - there was a full house!

Russ - You came across very professionally, as you always did at The Casino mate…..hang on, I seem to have fallen into ‘roll play mode’ there for ‘One Wonderful Moment’…..I meant to say Newbury, and The 100 Club…..for what I imagine was not an easy task, complete with the added pressure of following Butch!.....You’ll soon be back in Iraq, where you can relax once again…..ahem….

I liked that other version of ‘Anne Heywood - Crook His Little Finger’ Butch played btw…

..…and.....in case anyone didn’t notice - Sam’s back!......”Yippee-ki-yay motherf*cker!”…..there is simply no stopping that man!

….In short (As if an electricity bill) Congratulations to all involved on ten years of ‘sticking to your plan’

All the best,

Len

P.s - Great to see some of ‘The 100 Club Family’ again x

I am glad that Kimbo was three hours late getting back as we had a brilliant night and a great time round Harpos afterwards, loved every second of me you and Marks journey to the soulie land that started from yours  Saturday evening Kimbo",Sorry bout yer sarnies at worknext day though" ,We got there early this time and as Kimbo says plenty of pals from the dark side and a few new ones as well. Also talking with Kimbo about it"What a load of bollox this stuff about cant dance to records we dont know",if its soulfull and moves you youll move with it,and there was loads I didnt know that moved me to move .The quality of the sounds was really high as I said before back on the scene a year and a half now and I quit before stafford era theres loads new to me anyway and I heard more than plenty I really liked at the anniversery nighter,It was great to see Danny again and have a good laugh at some of the events of times past, havent seen him for over thirty years, there with Terry and John, nice one Danny. Also got to say happy birthday to Penny in person, also nice one and speak and have a verbal with Len,as we tick off our lists of things to do  when we get there!Someone said to me"Thats the premier league on tonight",in reference to the d j ing,he was right of course,I think thats a good way of summing up everyones spots and the quality choons I heard.

Afterwards back at Harpos ,more soul, more of the best people you could hope to meet ,two of them being Chris and his missus,as me mate Kimbo says"Chris ,you got style mate   and in the tradition of "Superfly", Curtis rules, also  your missus did a brilliant job of raising that cash for charity. Also talking to chris when he said about soul"Its more than a one way  track and you go down all the little avenues and paths of exploring the different aspects of it",and aint that right, once again if its soulful it will move you, plenty moved me at Lifeline Satrday night into Sunday morning .We all felt we had to tear ourselves away in the end,me self,Kimbo and Mark to get back home,I was on a real high all day and most of the night afterwards .If Carlsberg tried to make a nighter, friends and quality of time and soulfulness of people and music combined like this we had this weekend "They wouldnt have a phoo ken chance".neither would anyone else!

Thanks to Sandi and Harpo ,hospitality that in my opinion could not be matched, this tiime speaking for me good mates,Kimbo,Mark and me self ,loved it the biz niz and the bees knees.

Len first

Len as you say"Yes  it was great to be in a place  where people care so much for this very special"pastime", of ours", and really do truely care to the heart",second what sad barstewards making a dirty phone call like that, dirty, yes on a level or maybe even lower than a nonce call to someone by a member of the dirty mac brigade. Its just a mixture of ignorance and jealousy that motivates and drives such as "them",as we both know  but it still doesnt feel; nice when it happens.

Good to see you again,I kept my eyes ope....sorry sonar on for the purpose of perhaps spotting a periscope or two,no such luck, did you fare any better better.

Relly good nighter quality choons and people all round, premier ship dj s,,perhaps there may be periscope or two at the next "Bowl",see you there if not before all the best and ph ook the dirty phone caller.

Stuff the "Nags head"you spent the night in a far"Better  place", Manus.

Well, its been a few days since missing this.Gutted is an understatement, but had some news from the doctors midweek which meant partaking in the festivies was not advisable.I got ready to drive on my own and meet up with my little sis and fella, but honestly didn't feel up to it.

So,well done Lifeline Team, sorry to have missed it.

Congratulations Lifeline, 10 years is a real achievement especially as the rare scene is comparatively small. Great music and so good to see many of my friends there. Just about got over it all now. Butch kindly played my request for I Wanna Know, sorry I'm so predictable, will try to do better in the future.

Thanks to John and Jen for the lift and thanks to Andy, Mick et al for putting on such a great soul night.

Hey Manuns,

It was great to see you again, don't focus to much about the Nags Head mention - I was making the point that Sat night we were in the company of people that actually care about 'the bigger picture'........My message to whoever did it is this - "Don't judge me by your own standards, it didn't bother me one bit - I chose to go straight to Life-line anyway"......Even if you gave such people Life-line and say The 100 Club 'on a plate' (for instance)......They would never be 'Northern Soul'........and will never understand what that means......

.......There was a Perescope or two....but there's supposed to be - They are 'Northern Soul'!

See ya soon mate.

Len

P.s - Chalky's in 'The Den' at the next 'Soul in the Bowl'

Seeing earlier post from those who made journey from Spain and back, I take back moaning to Len on the M6 when we got held up / diverted for an hour or so...but was annoying to not get there earlier as planned.

5 or 6 hours we were there flew and was good work out physically and emotionally as usual + only spent a tenner upstairs!! (great new CD by the way Soul Junction  ). I can only do a niter once every few months or so and Lifeline's the one when I can thanks. Only request if I may, would be to have it just a touch darker in there?

Great mix played by all, Sam looked well and seemed to enjoy himself on his spot (as we did) and also brilliant to hear a few new/recent releases like Valdons (Russ) and Notations (Chalky I think played) as well as so many I didn't know and moving about a bit to.

Range & tempo of soul and timing that you hear something in a night can be so memorable and for me I keep thinking this week how amazing Emory & the Dynamics sounded on that big system when I was in the middle of the floor around 3.30am (Butch).

Will be great to have a dash of Lifeline at Soul in the Bowl here in sunny Rushden mid April. Nice one.

Cheers all,

Len's other drive driver
