Grumpy Soul Details

We've finally managed to sort three dates with the club for Grumpy Soul in 2014. They are as follows: Saturday 15th February, Saturday 7th June & Saturday 11th October As ever, we've tried our absolute best to avoid clashes wherever possible.

Our two Feb guests ... Lenny and Andy have been on our radar for ages and we're chuffed to bits they've finally agreed to scale the wall with tunes in tow. Great lads, great records and another great night in store we reckon

Will post usual blurb / more sh*te nearer the time, naturally.

Merry bloody Xmas if we don't see ya before :glare:

Thanks for posting Philip

We are so excited to have from 'up there' Andy Whitmore and Lenny Harkins as our guests this time. Andy has promised us a mega 60s / early 70s set and as for Lenny, he'll no doubt be his usual take no prisoners self and I for one can't wait!

Add that to the usual Grumpy cast and it looks set to be another good un

OMG what an awful lot of buttock thrusting for a sunday morning

When you said Grumpy's was going to do a themed night I thought it would be a legendary soul venue not a tribute to "The Full Monty"  :cheese1:  :cheese1: :cheese1:

Joan when you said that had ivited a white haired ole' boy with a ruddy complextion along I thought you'd added Dave Rivers to th DJ line -up  not Santa

Just noticed Joan's not in the Grumpydale jibjab, now I'm a really modern political correct kinda guy who totally believes in sexual equality so come on Joan get your top off and give those bells of yours a good jingle for the lads and lasses ( if that way inclined) after all it is Christmas. :wicked:

hello, hello, hello

dunno if any of you knew, but Andy Dennison was a guest on a little radio show on Saturday - you can have a listen on www.subcity.org/shows/soulfulallsorts listen back to the one dated 11th Jan. It was truly superb and well worth 2 hours of anyones time to listen in!

In other news, I want to come and play - so this is a plea for a lift. Do any nice people local to me (Huddersfield) have space in the car for a proper pain in the arse that smells nice and wears fabulous shoes? Have a horrid feeling my plea will fall on deaf ears cause there's something on in Leeds that I know all the usual suspects like to go to, too. Pleeeeeese message me if you want to take me out. I promise to behave.

Just over a week to go and still no sign of, dare I say it, anything too inclement at all weather-wise: it's cracking t'flags oop/ doon ere.

The arrival of a marauding band from north of the border eagerly anticipated; always right up for it and will add plenty to the night for sure. They're also heading south to support our special guests Andy and Lenny of course and it'll be fantastic to hear two more lads who don't play out down here that often; they'll fit right in for sure and blow you away if you ain't heard em before.

Carl's on fire (not literally, well not yet anyway), Dave's adopting his usual considered, circumspect approach (thus far) and it's all mercifully quiet on the bloody Jib Jab front (which means Joan's busy at work - thank fook). All I've done for months is work really so this un'll be a bit of a blow out and I'm right up for one.

Looking at the calendar there's oads on on 15th Feb so plenty of choice for everyone. Hope there's a few of you heading our way for what promises to be another absolute belter; 8 hours of quality right from the off. We'll post times etc next week. If anyone needs any more info drop me or Joan a PM or post on here.

The Carlisle grumps are out that weekend but not sure if we are going to Grumpy or Lowton. I need to give Ian his fishing seatbox back that I borrowed last year.

I'll be seeing the lads at our usual Sunday night drinking session and we will decide then.

If we don't make it, hope you all have a great night....

Mr (and Mrs) Banks bringing a selection of sales: hats, cheese, some records etc. (He rang this afternoon to book "a table for two in the conservatory" and order a bottle of Blue Nun - pushing that boat right out, the old romantic. Be really great to see you Lou, been a while mate (I think t'Mighty Whites were competing in Europe last time I saw yer)

Being keen golfists, you n Julian B could do 18 holes on the Sunday given that the venue is situated amidst a picturesque championship course. Oh, hang on, it's on an industrial estate by a canal near Widnes.

See you Saturday, Confused of Preston

Chalks, bear in mind Roger'll be in that conservatory and he's getting there for 7.30. Good luck my friend.

All coming together nicely. Roll on Saturday.

Well, that turned out better than alright I reckon. Over 120 in on an unbelievably busy night and, also given the weather up and down the country, we'd have settled for that.

It might sound a bit strange to some but, the most pleasing thing was who turned up as opposed to just how many. Absolutely made up to see Gaz K - top effort MnK - as funny, passionate and up for it as ever. Straight on the floor the lad and still there at 4am; if you could bottle a bit of that and spread it about the scene'd be a million times better for it IMHO. Loads of people we have the utmost respect for and have had for years, turned up at our two bob soul night and rated it. Add that into the mix with the people who support us unfailingly and you feel like its really worth sommat.

So, good crowd in and plenty of atmosphere all night. Musically, I thought it was as good as we've had down there. Never heard a bad record all night and special thanks to our guests Andy n Lenny for their contributions; outstanding sets and proper lads. As for Carl n Dave you couldn't  wish for better residents and / or mates. Same with Lou n T; sterling door work as ever!

Should I thank our mam n dad lol? Seriously, brill night from where I was sat/ stood and a massive thanks to everyone who contributed.

Saturday 7th June 3rd Anniversary, looking forward to it.

I had a great night.  I'd heard the rumours Gaz was going to make a rare appearance and was chuffed when he walked in, straight on the floor and stayed there most of the night.  great to see the other Cybermen, Bernie, Gis and honorary Cyberman Louis   Great to see the scots and exiled brits, good buddys Andy Whitmore and the lovely Susanne, Andy Dennison and the lovely Ailsa, Lenny who is always great company and good fun, Duce, Dale and Mick as well.  Two sets of lads and lasses I don't get to see too often these days.  Nice to see Big mick and Derek Pearson on a foray over the border!  All in all a decent crowd in, too many to mention but I never shut up all night!! :D

Great sets from all the DJ's Joan And Phi, Dave, Carl and of course the guests Andy Whitmore and Kenny Harkins, fabulous stuff form you all.

Well done to all involved, hopefully I will be along in June.

See ya'll at Life-line

All the best,

Len

P.s - Phil, your 'who turned up' bit in your post don't sound strange at all. I didn't know a huge amount of people, but I knew everyone there wanted the same thing, 'Old tunes, new tunes - just good tunes!', whilst appreciating the D.J's who put there all into what they do.

P.p.s - Carl played a fantastic record which may have been a first time out, I think he said it was The Traditions - what was the track?

Tremendous Tremendous Tremendous.....and Tremendous!!

This is the reason I used to travel many moons ago to venues south of the border.....as Phil said the quality of the clientele was on a par with the tunes....well done Phil, Lenny, Dave, Andy, Joan, Carl for providing fabulous tunes, and also Tony and Louise for your contributions and running a night that is so worth the trip....I danced more than I have in years and thanks Carl for playing Ailsas fav for her- Eddie Parker "I'm gone"....defo a special night.

Fab speaking to Chalky and Gaz who I haven't seen since Allanton....always great company Dale, Mick, Susanne, Andy, Duce, Joan, Lenny, Phil....we Always feel welcome there and I had to stop Ailsa from stealing the Grumpy cat which is harious.

I'm not as good as Phil with this reviewing lark so it will be short and sweet

I have to say last Saturday was fantastic from start to finish. It's no secret we are proper stress balls, everything has to be right and we worry constantly that people are enjoying themselves. Last Saturday kind of took care of itself; people arrived early doors and we had a good few in before Len landed (we did miss your words of encouragement Len lol)

Too many highlights to mention but Gaz turning out of course, Carl walking in packing a birthday banner and balloons, his alternate take of Frank Foster (absolutely pmsl), Mr Harkins's exploits, the incredible sets by everyone and people still giving it large and shouting for more when the lights came on at 4am - that says more than we ever could

Thanks to everyone for making the night what it is - next one 7th June (3rd anniversary) with guests Andy Dennison and Ian Cunliffe, hope you can make it

Nice to know that your still feeding the Grumpy Cat, thought you'd have decked her out in a circle skirt by now, maybe by June ? :wicked:

I hope Phil's wife likes the new headboard that Carl got him for his birthday (such a huge present) pissed all over my paltry box of battenberg slices :(
