Just found the website

http://www.earlferrers.co.uk/food_drink.html

sounds like an absolute gem of a venue ...quote '

The Earl Ferrers

The-Earl-Ferrers-001.jpg

Streatham (or St Reatham, as aspirational locals increasingly have it) is a surprising "off-guidebook" place to find a decent drink, and The Earl Ferrers is among London's finest "local" pubs. Real ale is well represented, though wine lovers will have much to savour. In fact, the diminutive Ferrers gets everything right, from friendly service to well-chosen music. It even manages to squeeze a pool table into a side alcove. A varied programme of events, including a fiendish quiz and regular book club, raise this treasure of a pub to near perfection.

Will be great to team up with that ace mod Mr Lewis again taking a break from his Acid Jazz and Paul Weller touring and recording commitments - not forgetting Rich Buckley resident DJ of 'That Driving Beat'- Leeds , formerly of Harrogate now a resident of Dulwich who played a brill set at the last Waterfront Blues & Soul Club (York), Sunday chill out.

Two more fab dj's added to the line up:

Terry Finn - Waterfront and There Was A Time resident

Dekka - Grantham / Newark soul - scooter club. Also guested for us at the last There Was A Time in August this year.

Great mix of dj's to ensure the punters get plenty of soulful sounds all night to keep them on the dance floor.

Many thanks to Jay Cee for inviting me to spin my platters on the wheels of steel in the big smoke,

been involved with "There was a time" in one way or another for quite some years now,

so it's always an honour to be involved with such great mates as Jason and Andy wherever their adventures take them.

Let's have a party

Public Transport information for those travelling within London:

All the following busses stop just about at the top of Natal Road (you walk down Natal Road and turn right after the swimming pool - but you will be able to see the pub anyway): G1, 50, 60, 109, 118, 249, 250, 255 and the N109. There is a huge Tesco so if you are coming from the direction of Brixton get off at the stop after Tesco. TUBE: Northern Line to Tooting Bec then bus 319 to Streatham get off at St. Leonards Church turn right on to Streatham High Street and it is approximately a 15 minute walk or get any of the above busses.

There are also a load of busses from Brixton to Streatham, most if not all of the above, so there is always the option of tubing it to Brixton but if you are getting the tube I would go to Tooting Bec it is much easier.

I look forward to seeing you all there. Ktf

Didn't mention the trains did I!?

Three stations serve Streatham: Streatham Hill, Streatham and Streatham Common. Streatham and Streatham Common are the closest.

Trains out of London Bridge go to Streatham amd Clapham Junction for the other two. Given a choice I would not use Streaham Hill. It is an easy walk but if you need directions get in touch an I provide them.

good call with all the transport tips - whats great about London (unlike the northern provencies LOL) is that public transport doesn't stop early - plus there's all night buses.

My pleasure Dekka.

But thanks must got to our man on the front-line in the big smoke, Davey Fallon, for organising all of this.  He has been dealing with the venue and the promoting of it in London.  Mind you, it sounds like an excuse just to go out and visit all the mod / soul haunts and buy clothes, drink, eat and dance.  By Jove, I think he's found the meaning of life!!

Nice one Davey

I have already got my accommodation sorted for The World Cup in Brazil 2014.  Perhaps we could tie it up with some dee-jaying.  I will speak to my contacts in Sao Paulo.  I am sure there will be bars that would be interested in what we do.

For those going to Kings X, Move it app suggests getting train from St Pancras (Luton to Sutton London with first capital connect). 9 stops to Streatham rail station and a 6 min walk to The Earl Ferrers. Gonna give this a go about 1.30ish. Reckon it's about an hour or so. Will keep you posted.

Yorkshire conquered London and London loved it,

fantastic responsive audience for all the different genres of soul music.

Myself and Rich double decked for the last 2 hours,

in the end they had to pull the plug as we were well over time but people just wanted more and more so we kept going.

truly amazing experience and as Andy has said, gonna need a much bigger venue next time,

Jay Cee asked me for a playlist, bloody hell it would take me half a day to write it, will see what I can do

Well they came from far n wide, South London, the East End, North London, the south coast then as far as Huddersfield and

Gainsborough …. bubbling with enthusiasm for the wide spectrum that covered northern oldies , including those loveable youth club sounds , latin , rnb , rarer and underplayed , 7ts, modern, mod , motown , ska , jazz tinged. The venue was rammed — standing room only by 8pm , a packed dance floor and at times almost as many outside. Nice touch by the Earl Ferrers crew to lay on a fabulous ‘help yourself' hugh bowl of homemade curry ….good selection of real ale , lagers , wine etc, nice food

and great bar staff.

Big thanks to Jay and Dave for the invite — a very enjoyable evening and somewhere new for us and immediately felt like home with the welcome and friendliness. Some amazing tunes played by all the djs — really mixing it up .. great fun.

Plays, including when doubling decking with Terry Finn.

Terry Callier ‘ordinary joe’

Wicked Lester ‘gay with an e’

Billy Hawks ‘o’ baby I believe I’m losing you’

Mckay ‘take me over’

Sam Dees ‘lonely for you baby’

Patsy with Lyn Tait ‘a man is two faced’

The Invitations ‘watch out little girl’

Harvey ‘anyway you wanta’

Billy Storm ‘educated fool’

Marv Johnson ‘come on and stop’

Gentleman June Gardner ‘its gonna rain’

Ketty Lester ‘somethings are better left unsaid’

Originals ‘suspicion’

Van McCoy & Soul City Symphony ‘backstabbers’

Small Faces ‘what’s a matter baby’

Dusty Springfield ‘whats it gonna be’

Etta James ‘seven day fool’

Pat Kelly ‘how long’

Gabin ‘into my soul’

Amy Winehouse 'Valerie[reggae re-mix]'

Hi Folks,

Big thanks to all you supported us on our first venture down to the big smoke with There Was A Time.  Cheers to Dave Fallon for putting this whole plan together and looking after us over the weekend.  Thank you to the venue, Duncan, Joe, Majit et al who looked after us with equipment, food, beer and accommodation. Thanks to all the dee jays for taking time out of their busy schedules and travelling through to make this happen.  And finally thanks to all the punters who came along to make this a night to remember for Streatham.  Possibly the first of a few more.

My playlist to follow along with those of the other dee jays.

Cheers Y'all
