I've been asked if there is any parking at the venue ? yes there is parking for about 500 cars .

On another note Rob Smith will have his records stall selling vinyl records and cds so bring a little extra cash,

only seven days, like the record seven days is to long

Big thanks to Mark Randall, Barry Cooper & Clive Henderson For making the corridor such fun last night.

We in the modern world know our place in the great world of soul and I honestly didn't mind being the side show freaks between the 2 "proper" rooms.

The tunes played were top class all night from 70's through till tomorrow and hitting all bases, bit of jazz, bit of latin, bit of funk (thanks Clive for the Roy Ayers), bit of house but all with a lot of soul.

Thanks Mark for not going down the "Happy" route, but if you were going to, I think that 70's one with the nice yellow label would've been different, William Bell on Stax I think !!!!.

Good fun, nice venue, but I think a bit more promotion on the modern side would've seen a busier corridor

Well Fitzy what can I say, what a superb venue it sure has the wow factor all credit to you it worked . No complaints at all, loads of great tracks played throughout the 6 hours and a very good turn out for the "Premier Night". Hope word gets round quickly for the next one then it will be even more packed than it was last night and boy was it busy. Nice to see a large number of your regular followers there supporting you as they always do.Very good job done by all including Christine on the door and your roadie mate Ian and of course others in the background that people don't know about. It takes a hell of a lot of time and money to put on an event like that so well done and keep the faith. You are a top bloke ........

Hi John, love the corridor remark, not the first time I've played that sort of environment, glad you thought the music was acceptable, will get Peter Brown on next time, lol.  I agree both Mark and Barry played some great stuff.Hopefully there will be more coming into our area next time, plus weve got a big job on educating the traditional soulies that really do want to join us but are not quite sure, lol, this venue overall has the potential to be great, see you next time around. Thanks to Fitzy for asking me over to play at this new event, and what an impressive set of function suites it is, and certainly won't be out of place in the Premier League next season!

Very busy for a first event I think, with even more potential given a few tweaks here and there.  I think Barry, Clive and myself played a bit of something for everyone between us in the Modern area.  Good to work with you fellas, and nice to have my old mate Mark Freeman playing at the same gig in the Northern Room.

I tend not to bother with playlists so much now, but I will on this occasion as one or two inquired about some of the tunes I played.  Some predictable stuff and some not so as those that know me know that I do like to play new music wherever possible.  I won't post it here though, so check out the playlists section of Soul Source for my spins.

Cheers,

Hi Mark,

Unable to make it on Saturday evening however I wonder if you can confirm if the Modern Room was actually a room. Comments suggest it was a corridor and you described it as the Modern area. This event was billed as having 3 music rooms. On a personal level I would have felt slightly miffed travelling a 120 mile round trip to listen to Modern Soul, however brilliant, in a corridor. Not all Modern Soul fans are content to being shoved into what ever space is available. I don't understand why you can't mix it up in the same room, as it was in the 70s. If it has to be segregated at least give it a decent space ie. a room.

My comments are not aimed at you Mark more the apparent narrow minded promoters.

Cheers

A corridor is under selling it, and to say it was a room would be over selling it, hence I said area. I think that would be fair.

It was a long, wide carpeted area with a laid dance floor, tables, chairs etc. It was the entrance to the gig as a whole so there was a lot of through flow, and maybe that's where "corridor" comes from, but it was more than that!.

As for the half hour sets we just chose to do it that way to feel it out on the first one. It actually wofked quite well but if we can get the room to take off and really bounce we would approach it differently I'm sure.

Maybe Fitzy can find us a room proper going forward. .....it's certainly a top facility with much potential.

Cheers,

Mark R

Hi Kevin, hope you are well and look forward to seeing you at Soul Cocktail.....Mark's sumed it up well more of a area I would say, only point I would add is that you have Motown/Northern folks passing through and some (only some and not all) tend to shall we say not understand the 'modern' side of soul, being the first one we had to test the music out so to speak and again as Mark said doing half hour each this one worked quite well, it is btw overall a great venue and I guess it's up to Fitzy if and how we move forward on the modern side of things.

This is the comment of one guy who travelled a long way

A massive thank you to the organisers.. 3 rooms of bliss ...friendly people..Dance floor friendly Dj,s.. i came up from

Somerset on my own .ill be bringing a coach load next time . Don't keep the faith ..SHARE IT ..S.T.F.

Colin

And yes Mark and Barry you are right it was the first one, and like I said on the night we can change things, as you know

it's a big area the Modern side is' and people passing through, part of that was our Christine on the door sending people

that way to the Motown Rooms which we will change it's a very big venue and being the first night people were walking round

seeing what was were, I'll be in touch and together we can make this venue the best Fitzy
