Here's a brief introduction to the 3 main guests

Billy Whizz, anyone not on the allnighter scene or unsure who Billy is then take a look at the 'This England' clip of the good looking guy in the white shirt doing a gracefull spin and that is Billy and may I say is still doing those gracefull spins. Billy has been on the scene constantly for the last 40 years and knows his Northern Soul better than any man, dj'ing at most allnighter venues including the 100 club.

Kev Such, Promotes the Cream Cracker soul club which has been running for 10 or more years now, ex Royal Engineers having served his country in Iraq (hope he doesn't mind me saying) who loves his 6t's RnB and Northern Soul and plays at Northern and scooter/mod events.

Ben Sutton, Resident at ad-lib club Lincoln, anyone who has never been to the ad-lib club are in for a treat with Ben, he also has a successful record store called select sounds (where I have been introduced to some amazing British Mod stuff), he loves his 5t's and 6t's American Rnb and Jamaican rocksteady.

These guests have been chosen carefully to introduce something a little different to the East Midlands, the Dogs Bollocks is the only place where these 3 will ever be gathered together, hope you don't miss it.

A few people have asked the location of the dog bollocks.

So for you.

The Haven in the Vale at Whatton, is located on the A52 midway between Bingham and Bottesford.

From Lincoln and Newark and the east take the A46 until you reach the Bingham roundabout then take the turning for Grantham Stay on that road you will see the Haven on the right after the detention centre.

From Grantham and the south its the A52 for approx 10 miles toward Nottingham after Bottesford look for the Haven on the left

From the west A46 till Bingham then turn for Grantham.

From Nottingham A52 again to Bingham then on to Grantham.

Hope that help

see you at the dogs bollocks.

Yep Andrew and Eileen have the Kudos of having actually attended the Flamingo Club, so really looking forward to their spot,

also they are attending this first night, many thanks to them for that.

I think it shows that all though there are many mod/RnB clubs scattered in the East Midlands, (Pelican club,Loughborough, Chitlin Circuit, Nottingham, Ad-Lib, Lincoln, etc) and lots of quality Northern Soul Clubs and Allnighter events, nobody before has thought to bring them together under one roof.

So here we are and just a reminder this event will only take place 3 maybe 4 times a year.

Our aim is to bring together quality DJ's from around the country so people from the East Midlands and beyond can get to experience 3 different scenes united under the Black American 5t's and 6t's music banner and hear DJ's at the top of their game in their respective scenes that people would not normally get to see.

We aim to bring you the real deal and we think it is a tremendous concept in the making.

I was handed on Saturday at Tamworth, a nice little RnB tune I thought I'd lost. Thanks to Di for returning it and it deserves a spin at The Dogs Bollocks.

Have to reiterate what dekka has said, The Dog Bollocks is a fusion of the best in 50ts 60ts RnB and Quality Northern Soul from the 60ts and early 70ts.

Our aim is to bring top quality dj from the night and nighter scenes to the east mids that you would not normally see in our little area.

The venue was selected to be within easy reach of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and it also offers the facilities for camping both tent and caravan if you wish to use them but if you need a little luxury the venue offers a high standard of B&B, these are usually the features associated with the big weekenders.

This event will only happen 3 or 4 times a year we will not make it a monthly venture as it would just become lost in the mass of events, and we want it to be worth waiting for.

So there you have it Quality music policy, the best in dj’s from near and far plus a fantastic venue in the shadow of Belvior Castle.

I really enjoyed the freedom to express myself, thanks to everyone how they kindly received my set, and all the lovely comments afterwards, thanks also to Rob (lionelonthevinyl) for the PM and his lovely comments.

Pure Soul is a fantastic role model which 'The Dogs Bollocks' will try to emulate with it's own distinctive style.

All DJ's chomping at the bit to attack the Dogs Bollocks,

Had a call from Ben regarding the design his set, I said to him as I'm saying to everyone

DJ'S have full freedom to express themselves.

Ben is a dealer and a collector so I know he can call on a vast wealth of music,

not gonna give too much away but I for one will be hovering around those decks (if you know what I mean)LOL

Been told by Pete that Kev has a few suprises for us as he too will be let off the leash,

As for Billy, pure quality from a man who has been there and done it and got more than enough tee shirts.

Looks like we have unleashed the Dogs of War, cos thay ain't taking no prisoners.

Was hunting around the house last night and going through me box for all those little RnB gems and 60's dancers that get misplaced and or slotted in the box between me more favourable tunes, and found some corkers. Also have one to play that Kyp has put my way.

Spoke to Pete last night and he assured me that we have carte-blanche to play whatever comes to mind or hand. So thats a challenge certainly worth rising to. Going to see Steve and Claires new extension on the way up, but as SHOULD ALL when invited to dj where ever that may be, I'll be there from the off.

See you Saturday.

Just to re-iterate, this is NOT a monthly event, this is a unique event,

these DJ's will never be under one roof at the same time ever again,

All that's best in Mod/RnB, Northern Soul and Allnighter tunes all under one roof.

Will the dogs bollocks be more then a mouth full or will it just taste to good.

See you at the kennel.

He knows he is about to be unleashed.

See you all at the GoGo Children.

Firstly thanks to Billywizz for setting the people in attendance up nicely for me to follow him with ease after the disappointing ( in my opinion) 9pm to 10pm spot for a Northern and RnB event. I have to say that the hour I was on is amongst my top 10 invites for the sheer enjoyment and ease of it.
Thanks to Pete and Dekka for the invite, its a cracking room, the beers a good price, bar staff were great, but you need a handle on the door, haha.

This is what I span, not in the played order though.

Village Sounds, These windows
Harrold Burrage, 50/50
Betty Lloyd, Im catching on
Barbara Lynn, This is the thanks I get
George Smith, I've had it
Majestees, Take back all those things
Jean Crater, Like one
The Buckinghams, You misunderstand me
Roger Pace, The minute my back was turned
The Shirelles, Last minute miracle
Gene Woodbury, Ever again
Timi Yuro, It'll never be over for me
Voices of east Harlem, Cashing in. ( requested by the lady that went through me box and she knew that one)
The Satisfactions, Take it or leave it
Harry Deal, I still love you
Jimmy "Preacher" Elli, Im gonna do it by myself
Soul Sisters, Think about the good times
Ike and Tine Turner, Cant chance a break up ( 98p)
Chuck Danzy and Lonnie Lester, Aint that a shame
The Hesitations, Im not built that way
Jay Traynor, up and over.

Kind regards

Hi Dekka / Pete / Kev, Thanks for a “cracking” evening with quite a bit of new R&B, & northern material to drain the bank account. Two below which I have already purchased for the pricely sum of £18.00 plus the dreaded P&P.

Whilst handing out your flyers at Ruggers I talked up the music policy & the venue.

Looking forward to “stepping up to the plate” later on in the year.

Hi Kev thanks for the comment, you played a nice set as always and your so relaxed on the mic... true professional. Personally I thought young Ben played a nice set imo, he should've mixed it up a bit more but myself have been down that road, it's so hard to think what the punters are thinking and to keep the steady flow. Lovely venue, sound system, The Dogs Bollox and a very friendly crowd. Dekka and Caveman your on a good thing here let it build. Hope to make the next one, as Kev says the drinks are really cheap. Thanks for the invite considering there were lots of venues in the area, very nice crowd and a claps after finishing my set, I still got the smile on my face. Cheers Billy

The first Dogs Bollocks has been and gone and was it a successes? Hell yes, the feed back on the night was fantastic with people calling it a breath of fresh air and a trip back to the days when both RnB and Northern soul were still an underground scene, praise indeed.
I will admit the 9 till 10 spot was not to the liking of some and I am pleased to say this has been addressed and will not happen again, so if you were put off by this I apologise.
Still from 10 till 2am the f...loor was awash with some great dancers, yes we still had them dancing at 2 in the morning not to bad.
The venue was great just a flick of talc and the floor and it was dance time, a big thanks to Kev Such and Billy Whizz not just for the cracking spots but the kind words thanks guys, and Billy see you in May.
To the people who attended from Grantham, Newark, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and point’s in-between thanks for making the trip.
Well onward and upward we will be back on May the 10th with another great dj line-up and a great music policy.
Thanks again
Pete

fantastic set once again mate and many thanks for your presence on the night, much appreciated, yeah a bit of a learning curve on the night but one thing for certain is that RnB and Northern Soul are fantastic bedfellows.

50 50 split in my opinion regarding young Ben, so please don't forget that, he had some lovely comments after his set and don't forget this is a 6 hour long night and not just a 'cram em in 9 till 12' then all bugger off home.

Once again Kev many thanks and hope to see you back behind our decks in the not too distant future.

Great to meet you Jim aka John LOL, your enthusiasm for all the music on the night was boundless, I lost count of the amount of times you were up at the decks taking photos, glad to see you enjoyed yourself, many thanks for taking flyers to Rugby, can't wait to see you again, hopefully, in May but if not behind those wheels of steel of ours later in the year.

Well what can I say about the legend that is Billy (Big un from Wigan) Whizz. when I made the call to you mate you had absolutely no hesitation in offering to come and DJ for me, we go back a ways now Billy and it's like a breath of freah air every time I meet you, boundless energy and enthusiasm and such an all round good egg. You had the peeps in the palm of your hand whilst on the decks and you had them in pure admiration and respect whilst you were dancing.

Totally agree with you regarding young Ben, I think we have all been there in the past, you fall a little bit out of kilter with the night and it seems a little disjointed, however, quality wise was absolutely top drawer and like I said he had some lovely comments including ones from me.

He will always be welcome and I hope to see him back

As Pete has said it was a fantastic night and praise goes to all the DJ's and people who came for making it such a special night. This night with it's mixture of Well known, Underplayed and Rare Northern Soul mixed with a variety of 6t's Mod and Soulfull RnB worked so well and proved they are perfect bedfellows which when combined  as they were on the night can produce dance music of the highest order throughout the night. The fact that some people were still dancing at 2:00 is an absolute testament to that.

As I champion British artists I wanted to pay a tribute to the Godfather of British RnB Cyril Davis and dedicate this my first record to Andrew who I know will be playing a set of British RnB at the next ad-lib and will be playing at our next Dogs Bollocks in May

Cyril Davis - Chicago Calling - Pye

All I have to say now is thanks to everyone for their contribution both DJ's and peeps for making our first Dogs Bollocks such a memorable and enjoyable night
