Had a few PMs about the music policy for this Anniversary night — It's the same DBSC format, so across the board 60s, 70s Soul with a open box for the Dj’s. Everything from Northern Soul Classics, RnB, current floor fillers as well as underplayed Motown… plus any requests on the night.

All the best from DBSC & we hope to see you at this spacious venue with a large wooden dance floor on the 8th hatsoff2.gif thumbsup.gif

well what a fantastic night ,  I think the head count was well over 130 folk and from the eight the dance floor was starting to work by nine the floor was packed with dancers. all the DJ's cut the mustard with a great blend of oldies and current spins . Cotgrave was celebrating it's 3rd anniversary and it's obvious that it's success is due to the hard work and commitment from the lad's that run it. Plenty of parking , clean toilets , very reasonable bar prices and plenty of seating and a great gang of guests and great music from experienced DJ'S are all you need for a night like this and of course Cotgrave has all this. It's easy to see that leading up to the next anniversary next year that Cotgrave is assured a year of great northern soul night 's . Thanks chaps you've got a winner , best regards Captain Black.

Went along to DBSC last night for their 3rd anniversary in Cotgrave, although these guys have been going many years.£3 on the door for this venue is incredible and I'm sure that if it was in the central area's of Nottingham would be amongst the countries most attended night!! To be honest the early spots took a while to get the busy crowd dancing but when the change came and Mel Britt was played back to back with Joe Jama cue a packed dance floor for the rest of the evening. The people who run this venue are genuinely some of the nicest guys in the business, The bar system is great with good prices, toilets are always clean here and it has a dance floor to die for with plenty of seating and 2nd floor balcony. The only downside last night which I see becoming a problem is the constant amount of flash photography! Non stop in your face for 4 solid hours! Legal action against someone is waiting to happen. Overall very good night 7/10.

Well done DBSC the 3rd anniversary was great and thanks for the patch it is top notch, it takes me back years ago when we use to collect them. All DJs did us proud some great sounds played loved the Joe Jama asked for it last month but got it tonight superb sound. Floor was packed after a slow start, if you haven't been to this venue you don't know what you are missing get along and try it. Well done Trev and your team here's to another 3yrs at this great venue.

Thanks to everyone that was there to celebrate our 3rd Anniversary at Cotgrave and 13 yrs of Driving Beat Soul Club.

A big thank you to everyone that has been on the feedback and all comment's have been taken on-board with reference to the photo's we invited someone that is at many venue's around the country to come along and take pictures to promote our venue and join us to celebrate 3 yrs . As a few guests have said they were not comfortable with it and I can assure you all, that any future pictures will be taken from distance and of the venue so not to invade peoples space and spoil there enjoyment of our venue and your well earned night out so please accept our apologies from all at (D.B.S.C) if we upset anyone.

I decided to give your event a try for the first time and put my feelings about the woman who did not ask permission around me before blinding you with a great big camera, all night. Unfortunately you decided to remove what I said. This 'lady' also told me where I can and can't go for a night out. Sorry that is not a way to treat your customers and I will not return. I will however go to the dance in Nottingham on Saturday as I will not be dictated to. Shameful

I would like to thank all that were at Cotgrave to celebrate our 3rd anniversary and 13 yrs of (D.B.S.C)Nottm.

I would like firstly take the opportunity to apologise for the amount of photo's taken we invited the photographer over to celebrate our 3rd yr at Cotgrave and to promote our venue we don't usually do this as guest's normally take there own so this will not happen again so please accept our apologies from all of us at (D.B.S.C) if we upset anyone in any way this is a learning curve that will not be repeated as the last thing we want to do is upset anyone and have our guest's night's out to our venue spoiled.

I hope I am gracious enough to accept your apology about the rudeness with the photographs. But you have not mentioned trying to bully people into not going to other venue's. As the weather is so bad I thought I would give your event a try as you are nearer to me than Northwingfield. I have never experienced anything like this at Northwings and I am going to continue going there. I hope you learn from this, I think the woman will not as she was so full of herself. This is the last thing I would like to say on the subject. Thankyou

Morning Susan it's a shame that you didn't enjoy yourself at Cotgrave , it's a long established and well attended venue . firstly the Photo situation , a photographic history of the northern soul scene including it's night's , nighters , dayers and weekenders are proving essential as is repeated almost to point of a mantra that more photo's should have been taken over the last four decades , this is evident especially when books and articles on such sites as soul source when people are researching legendary venues such as I am at the moment . Without these photo's a lot of our scene is lost , finding good quality images is very difficult as most are faded Kodak instamatic type photo's and are not the best quality . I personly don't like my photo being taken , however it's as easy to sorry I'd rather not have my photo taken as no offence would be taken Ollie who takes the photo's is a very much respected member of the northern soul community and has been on the scene since the mod years in the mid sixties , she is well known and liked . On reflection and in answer to your original posting about her being drunk and a over weight , you have made a very cruel and spiteful comment on here in front of everyone , as we know what you don't , She is very ill and has of late had a number of operations and is currently on steroids that has made her put a few pounds on. She's very aware of this and as a woman I hope that you understand how a woman would feel about your statements. Ollie does not drink but her medication affects her , her comments on where and where not to go may have been miss understood as Ollie would have been offering advice . in conclusion I hope you find venues that suit you and carry on enjoying your night's out at various " dance's " that you will attend in the future , but please remember that Ollie is an institution on the northern soul scene and I fear that you have upset most attendee's , with all due respect , Simon.

Mate, We've lost the Irish and there isn't much left in town. I was there and that woman was rubbishing a venue that starts this Saturday in town. It hasn't even started yet so telling people they mustnt go ispure nasty. I got my own mind and will decide for meself. NO MISUNDERSTANDING

you came on the wrong night , this club prouds itself on being people friendly I can vouch for this, the DBSC team are the best around the lady taking the photos was only there for that one night, it has taken you a long while to try this venue if it is on your doorstep and you chose the wrong night, try it again and see it in all its glory, great venue, great people, and great dancefloor

First of all I would like to know this wasn't reported to one of the promoters on the night rather than waiting until the next day so it could be made to look like DBSC is badly run & does not care about its customers. We are sorry your night was spoilt but I think it should be made very clear that this was nothing to do with DBSC.We as a soul club would never rubbish another club because we know how much hard work goes into promoting a venue. This was something that happen between 2 people who have nothing to do with promoting DBSC.I hope you will enjoy North Wings it is run by 2 great guys as in Pete Taylor & Steve Brown whom I have know for several years. And you will be most welcome at DBSC if you ever decide to try us again.Once again we are very sorry for what as happened but I do think you should have come to one of us to sort this out face to face because dragging a soul club down on here can quite easily ruin it.Like I said this is no fault of DBSC. Regards Kev (one of the promoters)

OMG...I am so sorry this has blown up at your event. I have been buried under home life and getting ready for Saturday. I was invited by Gaz Archer to drop in on the last night of the Fed and he graciously said I would be allowed to put out our flyers. I enjoyed my evening there and I am one of the people that like 'Tribute' and it was good to hear it. Kev may I slightly correct you in that I have not engaged in a visual disagreement at any event with Olly. When I started the Monastery Olly told me she could make or break an event and she became very helpful in raising our profile, probably in the same way you thought she would for you. I was not experienced in promoting and made a comment online at another event which was misconstrued, I have been welcomed back by that event and put our flyers out there. However Olly openly vilifies me to everybody at every Nottingham event I go to and I have even had messages from people who have been at Stoke and she was doing the same there apparently. It is not nice to be at an event and somebody is within a few feet of you telling people not to even speak to me. It is incredibly hurtful and the sort of thing that makes people kill themselves.

I fully believe DBSC had nothing to do with telling people not to come to our new event and I hope all the guys from DBSC come to us on Saturday to reaffirm this view. I would like to point out that destroying events loses jobs for bar staff and could lose homes for social club stewards, but maybe most important it removes a night that people could enjoy in their lives.

I hope that Olly's husband does not get it into his head to use violence on me because I have apologized to you for this happening at your event and giving you an incite into the history of this situation. I have had 2 Strokes and a blow to my head could kill me and I hope Olly's husband takes this onboard. The solution maybe that Olly keeps her opinions of an event that she does not go to to herself. I enjoyed my night at DSBC despite the unpleasantness that Olly displays to me, She has been doing this to me for over a year now and it would be nice if it stopped.

I hope DBSC goes from strength to strength and I love the badge you gave me. If we exist in the future I hope we can work together perhaps on a charity event. Many regards

Why has this been blown out of proportion, i am 58 and been going to soul events for the past 40 years and not come across any hostilities, we all want one thing and that is good soul music and a good venue to hear it and dance to it. Lets all put this behind us and behave like adults. I love the DBSC at Cotgrave and they don't deserve what is happening to them through some posts being shown on here they are genuine soul people and love to see everyone have a good time, i am always asked when i leave that venue (did i have a good time?)and the answer is always yes. No one person can stop an event from taking off so lets put it all behind us and keep on Keeping the Faith

I agree with the majority of what you say Mr Nimble and we are lucky to have lived through the explosion of this wonderful music that we love. Unlike you I am only a recent returner and want to bring back some of the music I loved but don't hear. I am only a Palais, Colemans boy and never came across any animosity whilst out. But there again I was just a kid who wanted a girlfriend and enjoyed the music.I did not know what went on behind the scenes in managing events. Have to say it hasn't been a pleasant experience so far, be nice if it changed.

This thread seems to have meandered like the Yangtze River and at times gone way off topic.

We hope that you can read through the dross and see that this is a fantastic venue supported by quality DJs and a great team of friendly promoters.

Maybe we will see you all next month and to quote an earlier post, wherever you decide to go have a great night. :hatsoff2:
