Starting off the new year and our 15th year, in style with Tony B and Dean Webb. Tony's been D.J.'ing for ages and always gets the crowd going. Dean's been getting more and more spots locally mainly due to his great record collection. Should be in for a belter. See you all on the night, down those stairs. Barry, KGB, KTF.

Isn't strange how things sometimes turn out?

Saturday at the KGB was just one of those nights where for whatever reason everything just seemed to go right, to be honest i was really expecting a very limited turn out working on the principle of it being a very cold January night and quite soon after Christmas and the New Year where money would be pretty scarce on the ground as well as in the wallet or purse but i was wrong to say the least numbers in attendance were excellent and to all who made the trip i'm sure no one left disappointed and all who came had a helluva cracking night i certainly did!

As i've mentioned before i have always liked cellar bars, perhaps it that little bit of the unexpected that awaits you as you descend down the stairs or the last traces of the boy adventurer that still lurks deep inside me but there just my thing along with so many of my other little idiosyncrasies.

Starting of with what i wanting to call an original "KGB" selection of old time Northern Soul favorites from Ann "Mrs KGB" Holland that reminded me so much from the days when the club was down the other set of stairs, that were perhaps a little more uptempo than in previous months but still kept the KGB standard feel to them and they really did set the night and bar at a very high standard, nice selection of plays and a job well done.

The stage was set for the first main spot of the night and this fell to Dean Webb who gave a very solid and very much in keeping with the venue and crowd performance, Dean has a no frills approach to his DJ'ing and keeps the introductions down to a minimum much preferring to let his music do the talking and as we all know so well the dance floor takes no prisoners and the dancers were well catered for making this spot a resounding hit and more events to surely follow for him.

Next on stage was Tony "B" who had inherited a nicely warmed up audience from Dean when he took to the decks and continued to serve a massive helping of classic old time Northern greats and some sweet 70's movers that swelled the numbers on the floor to at times to a good 70/30 mix where the dancers well out numbered the non-dancers and that isn't an easy feat by any shot of the imagination, a very workman like performance that to use the now somewhat overused phrase really "did tick all the boxes" but that it did and perhaps even went on to fill out the small print at the end.

And rounding off the evening Barry "Mr KGB" Holland himself who i think like Ann before him played a little outside his normal musical frame work and really did a top class end of the evening spot, yet still a Barry set but with a little bit of a twist to it and all the better for it.

Great night and look forward to the next.

Many thanks for the great write-up Russ. As always you put everything down in black and white what I would really like to say but don't have the diction, thanks.

So, as said by Russ, I was expecting quite an average turn-out, because of the weather and time of year but also other events on locally, but again was I wrong. A massive thanks to all who travelled and all the regular KGB'ers. Another great night down those stairs was had by all.

Many thanks to Dean and Tony B for two great guest spots. See you all again next month when we've got Mick2Dinners and Dave Glover, should be another cracker, till then, see you soon, KTF.
