So the January bash at The Hollingwood has just finished, when is the next one ??

Already ready for the next installment.  Mr Vincent is our very special guest come February.  The govenor as far as I am concerned and long may he reign. Quality from the off is on the cards. People still talking about his last visit to our big little club and a personal landmark for me to be sharing the decks with a legend ( and Chris too )

See you guys there and make sure you get in early because I think it is gonna get busy !!!

Time marches on, as somebody once sang, just a week away now to the Feb installment of he Hollingwood. The governor, asTerry calls him, hits the decks for an hour and a half this time round. Stephen Perkins gets us going and Terry and myself filling in the gaps, see you there.

I'm bouncing off the walls in anticipation of the next installment of "The Hollingwood Experience". Box packed with 5 star family favourites, and a couple of my faves too. Gonna be a big thing.

Whoop whoop, its on its way, 5 days left, not the same old same old, great venue, great atmosphere, the way a Northern club used to be and still should be. If you want another night of the ' run of the mill' you'd better go elsewhere. Underplayed, rare, classics and an awful lot of stuff you may have forgotten about. Lovingly mixed together in the Hollingwood Soul Bowl and served on a bed of ovo..

Not too long to wait.  I know John has been hunting out some of those old Samantha's and Casino tunes that have been left to gather dust.  Probably have a want's list as long as my arm at the end of the night !!!

Hope you're not working Sunday because you'll be too knackered to do anything after Saturday Night !!

White Rabbits.

Today is the First day of February

The Roman month Februarius was named after the Latin term februum, which means purification, via the purification ritual Februa held on February 15 (full moon) in the old lunar Roman calendar. January and February were the last two months to be added to the Roman calendar, since the Romans originally considered winter a monthless period. They were added by Numa Pompilius about 713 BC. February remained the last month of the calendar year until the time of the decemvirs (c. 450 BC), when it became the second month. At certain intervals February was truncated to 23 or 24 days, and a 27-day intercalary month, Intercalaris, was inserted immediately after February to realign the year with the seasons.

First seen in the written word in an ancient transcript that still has meaning for today. It read :-

Soulus Hollingwoodium et Februarius featur Maximus Souliator Jonus Vincentium.

Starts at 8 O Clock !!!

Rubbish weather, rubbish telly and it's Saturday night! Get your glad rags on and get on that dance floor! It would be nice to welcome you to Hollingwood but if you wish to get a different sort of soul fix elsewhere then enjoy yourself x

Nothing but superlatives for tonight's Hollingwood. All the DJs did the biz but John Vincent was on a different level. The music that emerged from that little box of tricks was amazing, each one better than the last and what a response. Thank you John for gracing our decks with your Vinyl. I will be following your career closely !

From all the reports it sounds like it was a special night at Hollingwood. I'm gutted I missed the last hour but heard most of JVs spot which as you say Martin was something else! One of the best crowds in as well which meant the atmosphere was spot on!

Back to the paracetamols and hot drinks now!!! :(

Well it was great last night and to be honest id be the first to say if it wasn't. Been a journey to get to this point but we are getting there. Great night, great music and a very healthy crowd. Djs delivered the stuff and delivered it well, especially mr J Vincent. We gave him an hour and a half and he used that time to build a great atmosphere with his selection.

It's the Hollingwood and it does what it says on the tin. Let's do it all again next month.

brilliant night at Holingwood. A night of soul, the like's of what we've not heard for many a year. JV played an absolute  blinding spot but then all DJ's provided a range of blissful sounds that were very appreciated by the floor and the great crowd that attend this venue. certainly not your same old predictable.......... dare to be different

Great night at Hollingwood, one of the best. Made better by having three of our fave djs on John Vincent, Chris and Terry. Good to see the room so busy, and everybody dancing. So refreshing to come here and have a change from the same old same old! Can't wait for next month. Tina and Phil.

After what can only be described as a massively successful night at The Hollingwood we have the following message :-

Over the last year the Hollingwood as had 3 landlords, when the last came in just before Christmas we were very concerned with his attitude towards us: He knew ...all about Northern Soul, he'd been to Wigan, he had mates who were into it. etc etc. I'm sure you get the picture. At the beginning of the year when he came to us and said he wanted a Motown night, an allnighter and that he could do it better, we knew the writing was on the wall for us. Unfortunately this Saturday, despite the increase in numbers and an awful lot of beer purchased, he has decided he doesn't want us anymore. He was heard complaining by folks about "getting rid of this northern lot" while some folks were at the bar. Anyway despite him kicking off and verbally attacking some of our folks as we cleared up on Saturday, we decided to try and reason with him afterwards, to no avail I'm afraid. Looks like, according to some staff, that he wants a Motown night each Saturday, you know " like the one at the Winding Wheel" which he's going to do himself. Upshot is this: last Saturday, without doubt one of the best we've had and one of the best attended, was the last Hollingwood. So the Hollingwood curse strikes again. Myself, Terry and earlier in this last year Mort would like to thank everybody who came, attended, took part in the Hollingwood. So sorry its had to end this way but what a great 14 months it was, some excellent music, great soul loving people and a good laugh made it all worthwhile. Looking out for a new venue so if you know of anywhere just give us a call. Thanks once again for your support. Chris & Terry

Just been told this by Chris, what a big shame. Like you say Terry last Sat was just about the best night you had there, goin to miss hollingwood, but sure you will find a good venue elsewhere. The new manager obviously doesn't have a clue and doesnt sound very well liked by his staff either! Maybe his days are numbered at Hollingwood too! Good luck in finding another venue. Tina and Phil. This is a great shame only attended once because of DJ commitment's , very sorry to hear about this , a well attended night having it's throat cut . It's obvious this man is not really a business man , no one shuts the doors on a goldmine in this day and age. anyone with a bit of an idea would have kept the northern night going and had a motown night later in the month , best of both worlds. It would be easy to say it's his loss but sadly for the organisers and guests that's not true in this instance as everyone looses . I hope you find another venue soon . the sad ending to this story will probably be along the lines of , Twat on a computer playing Frank Wilson to 50 , fifty somethings hoping for a shag.Best of luck Simon.

Hi Tezza/ Chris/Sharon,

I've been contacted by a venue in the region looking for a promoter to put on a regular Northern Soul Night.

Please PM me if you would like the details to follow this up.

Cheers Phil

Hiya lads, found out last night at N Wings.

Cant say i'm totally surprised, Me & Keith [Manlove ] had a similar experience at Hollingwood some years back with a tosser of a landlord & Since we started Hollingwood up again this time i always felt there was always something hovering in background with the different landlords coming in & out !

There's no continuity or commitment in the public houses today like there used to be.

Sorry its come to an end for you as there's a shortage of quality venues playing something alternative, hope you manage to find somewhere suitable !

All the best with your hunt

Mort / Jude

Sorry to hear this Terry....Your experience is not unique. I launched the 'Monastery' after I stood on the stage at the venue and could not believe it did not have a soul night as I thought it was perfect..As a recent returner I had no real friends and struggled to get some dj's together....then I had to run the gauntlet of being an outsider and all the venom that that generates from some other venues. But despite all that we had a good night going. On the last night everybody in town went to a free entrance/free food night and the attendance was small. I felt tremendously despondent and when I was packing away alone, the manager told me he had booked our next night to a wedding as there was more money in it. This happened to the previous promoter who got attendences of over 300 before me, so I realised why it didn't have a soul night...

There must be life after the Hollingwood Terry.

I have now embarked on putting fresh life into the 'Federation' in Nottingham, Now NCSC...the knives are still out for me but if you love the music, you can never leave it....

I am sure you will be spinning soon Terry, just not Bowie ones please
