Was speaking to one of the guys recently at the fleet.they arn't trying to tread on anybody's toes ,they just wanna put on nights were there's a gap in the calendar.one of the dj's is a 17 year old lad who's trying to get onto the mainstream events something we should encourage.hes done right track and the fleet and has been asked to return.these nights won't be about raries so if your a purist or a connoisseur this isn't for you! If you want classic oldies that have stood the test of time ,go along.as far as I know they've booked 3 nights around the area so try em what have you got to lose !!

Well they've pitched it on the same night as the classic oldies and motown night in Boston so although they don't intend to tread on anyones' toes they've done exactly that by not checking the calender.

Did the same in Peterborough - was 4th April now 2nd May by not checking the Calender!

Not content with one area either - Holbeach, Peterborough and now Boston!

WHAT!! are you saying that holbeach is a suburb of boston???? what do you think is a acceptable distance away? im gonna braza club tonight hopefuly a representative will be there.will post on here tomorrow what they say!! if the boston night is as good as it looks they will learn a lesson so i think its a case of wait and see.but are you saying that nobody should try and put on nights at all .look at peterborough, theres no events in april or may apart from the good guys at caliente!!!

Just to clarify the point made by Raym of Caliente. The clash he mentioned was with his venue. It was a mistake on our part as posted more or less the same day. We offered unreserved apology and changed the date within one day. We wished him every success with his night and congratulations in running a successful club. I felt that this had been an amicable and positive outcome.

Is every event a original vinyl event? did you read at the top?? The kids 17 fffs.where does a kid of 17 get hundreds of pounds for originals.thats why in 20 years when we've all gone to the event in the sky northern soul will be dead.i as a northern Souler of 40 years don't care if it's played off a pepperoni pizza .play it,and I'll dance to it?never have I refused to dance to a record because of what it's played on.lets not encourage youngsters, let's gear buried with our records sod northern soul in the future?he played the fleet twice for Keith and is back again at the next event.if his pressings are good enough for a 35 year northern soul event it's good enough for holbeach PATHETIC!!!!

hi, as I live just outside holbeach may pay a visit to see what hot wax is all about, plus see if the youngster can cut the mustard for the next generation,

might be a good idea before you decide to put a night on just check what else is on locally to save any bad feelings

hi Rus, Would love to see you. We don't feel that we will clash with Boston . They have good nights, I have been to a few myself and have enjoyed them.  They have a regular following and although we are doing one in Boston made sure there wasn't a date clash with their event. I feel Holbeach is far enough away not to detract at all. Kris the young guy who is one of the dj's is very good. He has a passion for Northern that we had in our teens. I'm sure you will agree that we need young soulies who have the passion for the music to continue the enjoyment we all have.If you do get chance to come introduce yourself, great to have a chat. I personally don't have a problem with anyone putting on an event locally and if people don't care what format the music is played in then what does it matter but I do think more care should be made when booking a date. When we are planning ours we endeavor not to clash with anyone within 50 miles so when you say that an event that is only 16 miles away won't clash then I have to disagree.Surely when trying to get a foothold in the local soul scene it would make more sense for you to plan a night that doesn't clash with anyone else because as you say the Boston nights have a good following and where you may have got a few travelling (myself included) for your night in Holbeach in my experience if they can stay in town for the same thing then they are more likely to do that.

I'm not having a go at anyone but please don't make it a competition because it just causes bad feeling and rifts.

No bad feelings or rifts intended and will not be in the future. Soul Spirit hold good nights and are well worth a trip if you haven't been before. Regards Rich

kin responce to russoul.there is no next generation mate.i go all over the country to events and the number of under 25s saddens me.theres quite a few people made a good living from northern soul over 40+ years maybe they should get together and look at the future.my daughter 15 came with me a couple of times simply because she saw a northern night in the vidio for john newmans could you love me again but said there was no one in her age group there she could talk to.its a shame cos the shite thats in the charts now is worse than the70s.good

Good Luck to the lads wanting to run a night, but why the hell jump in at a venue that we have been using at Boston since September.

This venue also plays host to Boston Scooter club nights so may I politely suggest lads, look else where.

When we first started we approached the venue and did our home work as to what was on in the area. We always take in to consideration what events are on locally well within a good 30 mile radius at least!

To say I am disappointed in these guys for using shall we say 'our venue' is an understatement and will be taking the matter up with the owners of the venue who are also out of order for allowing such a thing to happen.

It has been a large financial outlay with all the promotional work that has gone on to get the 'Boston Soul Night' up and running. We have started with every other month and were looking at the last Friday of every month, come on lads where's your conscience.

Lads by all mean make your mark on the scene but don't try and cash in on others, that isn't what it's about!

are you seriously saying that because you hold a scooter night on a two monthly basis (6 times a year) that for the other98 weekend dates available that no one can have a northern or motown or soul night? the club cant increase its income on these night, because your clubs there 6 times a year.i think its you who needs to look at your concience.ive known clubs whwre they ran alternate nights!! the organisers of the northern nights as i would would think a once a 2 month scooter night would be the least of ther worries. let the soulies decide, if theres no one there they wont come back! im going for a lie down!!!!!!

What I am saying is that we started these nights back in September with a view to going the last Friday of each month. Building these events up is neither easy or without a cost. Do you really think that two nights a month at the same venue will not be 'over kill'

I am of the opinion that some one wishing to start a further night at a venue that is already being used for a soul night is out of order, my view just as yours is that  'there are 98 other weekends'.

I take your comments on board Mixercora however the venue also runs other nights too, not just soul nights so i doubt if they are short on turnover.

In total out of the twelve months there are already 8 soul nights plus the two scooter nights at the venue, making ten nights at that venue out of the 12 months.

There is also a  modern night at a different venue, also in Boston and on the first Saturday of the month there is a night at the Robin Hood public house

Now we have Hot Wax in the town maybe we could end up with the overkill

Of course the 'Hot Wax' boys are free to do as they wish and like you say the punters will decide.

As for my conscience well it is quite clear, and I check it most days with some one greater than the both of us.

then you should take it up with the venue pidgeonray.im guessing and only guessing that they looked on soulsource and other soul pages and didnt know.if there isnt room for any more feet through the door will tell them this but if they run a successful night and are asked en masse to return then what!!! .and i check with someone greater than myself and shes telling me to get off the i pad and do the washing up.gotta go!!!!!! good nights to all events.

HI PigeonRay. Thank you for your  good wishes for our night in Boston and  I will continue to support and offer promotion for your nights and return the good wishes for your events. For your interest the  decision on the venue was based on availability and fitting in around certain events and Soul events that had been booked in town in other locations. We looked at a selection of venues and this was the only night that seemed to fit within that time frame. I would point out that when this venue had been booked , just after Valentines they had no further Soul Bookings at all in their diary and we did ask if there was any not confirmed as we did not want to go just before an event that was a possible. We discussed the booking with the venue and asked if there would be any problems in booking to which they replied not at all. As stated before  to anyone who hasn't been to a Boston Soul Night  they have excellent dj's, play a wide choice of music and will give you an enjoyable night. I hope this answers some of your concerns.
