Hi Chris, tickets are selling very well and as you can't always tell from peoples user names on SS who they are I messaged a few people who contributed to the old Oddfellows thread on here and obviously you were one of them. I received a postal request for tickets this week from somebody who has lined up meeting people for the first time in years and has reconnected with so many lost contacts. I think the reunion will be quite emotional, but when you say "30 years" it sounds such a long time ago! Regards  Ally

I have had a couple of messages about parking so If you are wondering where to park then the following streets off of Humberstone Road are the best placed:

Ann Street, Morledge Street, Wimbledon Street, and the nearest car park is Halford Street NCP. As it is a Sunday there should not be such a problem for spaces. There is no car park at the club.

yes i think it will be emotional for a lot of people, not least for the fact that some of the regular characters of the time are no longer with us,including my good friend pickle,RIP mate

Hi Arnie, I think it will be scary to calculate the number of people who were regulars that are no longer with us. If you see the photos put up on the "I went to the Nottingham Oddfellows niters" Facebook page and the number of comments of RIP next to people's names as well as other comments about people who are no longer with us it adds up to a large number. I guess we should all feel lucky to actually be able to attend and witness the original DJ line up at the original venue and listen to the music that was played at the time with as many of the people who were there at the time. It may be the last opportunity we all get to do it.  If there was a particular favourite record of Pickle's try to make sure that one of the DJ's plays it in his memory.

All of the old anniversary patches have been reworked into stickers ready for the reunion, I think they look great - even better than the original patches in some way! I will try and post images up of them soon

Going to be a day to remember, can't wait to meet up with all the old regulars that attended back in the day.

There have been many other niters that I have been to since the end of the Oddfellows, but to be honest I don't think I have ever experienced the same atmosphere that we had back then.

Lets just hope that we can all keep dancing all evening without the need for a hip or knee replacement.

See you all there, i'm not going to have a voice by the end of the night from chatting so many old faces and my hands will be burning from keeping the soul clap going all night.

If you don't have a ticket, get one quick before they all sell out

See you soon

As a replacement for Keb Darge at the reunion we will have one 1/2 hour spot upstairs and and a 1 hour spot downstairs with DJ's Andy Newman and Simon Hunt double Decking. As most people will know, both of these guys were regulars at the Oddfellows and both were big fans of Keb's and I am sure will play most of the records that we would have liked Keb to play. I will post a full schedule of DJ times up, on or before the weekend as there are still a few details left to sort out.

Took a call from Gary Rushbrooke on Friday afternoon informing me that his shifts at work have been changed meaning he would not finish work until 9pm on Sunday 25th May. He says he will still try to make it to the reunion to meet everybody but has informed me that he will no longer be available to DJ on the night. As a result I have arranged that Mark Freeman and Darren Dakin will cover his spot. A big thank you to both who were massive fans of Gary's and also both regulars at all of the Oddfellows nighters in the eighties. I am sure they will do a great spot.

For all attending the Oddfellows reunion this Sunday 25 May and those who will or may get to Leicester early, I have arranged for the Exchange bar to play Northern soul from 12 Noon onwards - free admission. Its a 5 min walk from the Oddfellows and is a great place for everyone to meet before the event. They have a great cellar downstairs (that we can plug an Ipod or phone into and play northern through their PA system) in addition to them playing northern upstairs. They will have sandwiches available and if you want to park in the Rutland Street NCP opposite the bar you can get a pass from the Exchange bar that will give you a massive discount on parking (reduced to £4.20 for 24 hours). It is next to the Curve and Athena nightclub Address is 50 Rutland Street Leicester LE1 1RD . Just walk up Rutland Street from the Oddfellows on Humberstone Gate.http://www.exchangeleicester.com/#about

Hi all firstly a big thank you to Ally for asking me to DJ I'm very flattered and greatfull , I've been asked by a number of old oddfellows chums if I still have my original sheepskin coat sadly this met a sticky end on my uncle Billy's travellers site as was used as a sex aid for a couple of lurchers . I must admit this will be a strange night for me as some of my old soulie chums  who I used to go with are no longer in human form but exist in heaven and also my three son's are coming to have a look so they didn't even exist during my oddfellows years. I'd like to have seen John Lawson there but he's off on one of these army thing's so is not in the country , it's great to be double decking with my old chum Andy a nicer chap I've yet to meet , we'll do our best to play some of Keb's numbers but please be aware that Keb's collection is spread all over the place and some of the one off acetates we won't have so please be patient , I've dug a few of his classics out and will also be playing the chills and fever acetate he had that went to Danny Everard then me. We'll be playing tracks like Betty Turner and the soul set and Enjoyables on shrine and all the now familier numbers such as Tony Galla , Gorden Keith look ahead and alike so we'll see you Sunday best regards S.

Ally - What a day/night - before I got there I had my doubts that it was up to it nothing to do with who was on just the
aspect of how it used to be - but how wrong I was -the turn out was amazing the floor was rocking from start to finish many
faces from years ago and the final part all the djs smashed it the replacements from the original line up had many of the
numbers that I didn't think I would here - The venue was very much the same ideal -
Ally - I got to say the work you put into this was TOP CLASS - WELL DONE

well what can I say, the event started with Mark Jones playing a truly fabulous set, Rob Smith carried it on , but the highlight for me was the small room downstairs, Simon & Andy where magnificent, then Mark & Daz carried the spirit of the 80s very well on, I was dripping at the end, well done boys

I was there last night also and the atmosphere it was a great night. The music was superb and I left yet again thinking this northern soul thing has 'still got legs' unlike the writer of this note after forgetting his age again last night. Highlights - Brian Rae (for being there)  and Ally Mayer (captured the moment perfectly with his spot) oh and the dodgy looking video on loop downstairs ...some dodgy headbands featured. Well done to all concerned and thanks.

great reunion ally good to catch up with people that I we had not seen for 30 years in some cases also great to catch up with those we still see out music and atmosphere were spot on sets of the night for us were simon /andy  and adam these guys had the floor rocking the rest of the d.j's were also top notch but for me  the 3 mentioned stood out  this is how venues should be everything in one room  it does actually still work thanks for the memories guy's

it's now time to get back to moving the scene forward

Well done to everybody involved, DJ's, Staff, original members and guests old and new and all who have been so willing to help along the way. The event exceeded mine and most peoples expectations. Meeting so many fantastic people from all over, totally enjoying the occasion, music and venue from start to finish made everything totally worthwhile. A full dance floor right to the end paying homage to the legend that is Brian Rae at the Oddfellows is up there with my best memories on the northern scene. There were original members from the eighties - some with partners and children new to the venue, soul fans who wanted to check out the Oddfellows for the first time and even a good selection of brilliantly turned out young soul fans who danced and lived every special moment along with everybody else. I had a phone call this morning from Alan who used to go in the eighties telling me how fantastic the reunion was, from the venue, music, staff and the friendly people he met during the day and explaining how emotional an event it was for him. Another perfect way to sum it up! I could go on for ages but to finish I will just put it this way, smiling friendly people, great music, great atmosphere, great venue, great DJ's, full dance floor and a buzz from start to finish. DVD of the event to follow - watch this space for details. KTF Ally Mayer

I have had a lot of people asking where they can buy the t-shirts from after the reunion. I mentioned on here before that Grindstore.com had provided the t-shirts to us FOC and were going to donate £5 for each one they sell through their website to Cancer research UK. They have also added a selection of Oddfellows mugs for sale at £6.99 each and will donate £2 for any of these sold. follow this link to make your purchase:http://www.grindstore.com/search/?q=all+nighter

What a superb night, so many people that I had not seen for years.. Was great to be back in the old venue, I totally ran out of time with the people that I wanted to have a chat with, and didn't dance anywhere near what I wanted to, at one point it took me an Hour to walk from one end of the dance floor to the other, being stopped by old faces for a chat.

I have to say, I was slightly crapping it DJing at such an iconic event in Keb's very big boots, but I had my old mate Simon along side and when I saw the state he was in I didn't feel so bad and then took my mind off the job in hand by trying to help Simon feel calmer by giving him some positive support. We had a brilliant time, but like the rest of the night, ran out of time for the records we wanted to play. I have been overwhelmed by all the kind comments on the night, on Facebook and on here about our sets, thank you all so so much.

Well done Ally, you did it, now all we need to know, is this going to be a regular annual event. . . .

Thanks once again everyone and all the best Andy N
